Chapter 39 - Small Victories are Still Victories

Now the bear-man hybrid bandit boss had finally got a vague idea of what exactly he had trapped himself in.

He was talking to a high level authority who could predict his bad luck.

Of course, he had the wrong high level authority, and heavenly doctor Ming could predict his bad luck purely because he was the harbinger of bad luck for the ugly wonky bandit gang.

However, Bai Jingfei was a completely different matter.

She had initially played along with Heavenly doctor Ming because she wanted to go back quickly and catch up on her beauty sleep. However, heavenly doctor Ming cosplaying as head priest Tang was invariably going to delay her.

She would have to continue playing along now that this drama had started in front of her.

She decided to watch the drama unfold instead of taking any action. As usual she was wondering how exactly to react to these new developments. She didn't want to be there at all but what other choice did she have?

Bai Jingfei scratched her head and then casually turned back to heavenly doctor Ming.

"What is your name, child…" said heavenly doctor Ming pointing at the overgrown muscle man bandit leader who was definitely not a child.

"Zou Deming, head priest Tang. Please forgive us for not recognizing you…"

Heavenly doctor Ming stared down at Zou Deming from his seat on the carriage. He was looking down at him both figuratively and literally.

"Fei- Priestess NingNing help me down so I can take a look at this child, Zou Deming." he said casually looking at Bai Jingfei. He needed some help getting off the carriage without the stool that the servants usually brought out wherever he went.

But he hadn't stopped at the mansion or jade medical hall.

There was no stool.

Oh the pains of being old.

However, Bai Jingfei was young. She wasn't the strongest of young people but being young was enough. She had just enough strength to help heavenly doctor Ming up and down the carriage.

And so that was what she did.

Bai Jingfei glanced at heavenly doctor Ming and then shook her in resignation. She took a little jump off the carriage and then ran around the front of the carriage, pushing through the mob of wonky bandits.

The bandits watched as the supposed head priestess ran around the carriage like a child. Not to mention the head priestess looked suspiciously young. Like a teenager.

While none of the bandits had ever had the opportunity to meet head priestess NingNing, it didn't matter. People who had met her would mention how young she looked.

However this "youth" was not because she was a loli like Feifei, but because people expected the priestess to look as if she were decaying, much like head priest Tang.

Bai Jingfei finally skipped her way in front of the carriage.

"Here." she said, sticking her hand out to support heavenly doctor Ming as he descended from the carriage.

The scene was quite beautiful. Like a prince charming supporting a cinderella down a carriage.

The only problem was that Bai Jingfei was a small girl, not a charming prince, and heavenly doctor Ming was an old, bearded man, not a blushing princess.

"Thank you, priestess NingNing." he said, alighting the carriage and dropping his walking stick on to the floor, commandingly.

They made quite the convincing picture of priestess and priest.

They had fooled the entire crowd but had not convinced one of the bandits, Wonky Tooth. He was a skinny and seedy looking man who had a look of distrust at all times. His large teeth gave him the look of a skinny rat, and the scratch on his forehead made him look rather threatening.

He was a solid 3 on the scary meter, right below cashiers in medical stores who judge what you're buying.

On the handsome meter, on the other hand, he was a not so solid, 0.

He turned to his boss and began whispering as soft as a bandit who was used to yelling could.

"Boss, I'm sure he called her FeiFei before. These two are up to something."

Bai Jingfei who had the reflex and conscience of a robber instantly retorted to deflect anything they could possibly use against them.

"My name is Ning Fei, and you will refer to me as Priestess NingNing." she whispered in a firm but hushed tone. Her eyes were glowing with obvious fury.

The glare in her eyes cleared any doubt the bandits could ever have but Wonky Tooth was not completely convinced. "I've never heard of a priestess named Ning Fei. I was sure the chief priestess was named Ning Mei…"

Bai Jingfei used her super liar reflex yet again and responded curtly.

"Why would you know my name better than me? Head priest let us go. You need not waste your time on these scum."

She instantly spun on her heel and turned to heavenly doctor Ming who understood exactly what she was trying to do. He nodded and took her hand to support himself back into the carriage, when Zou Deming desperately yelled out.

"Head priest Tang, please stay. My subordinate is much too outspoken…" he forcefully pressed Wonky Teeth's head down into a bow, "Please forgive him."

Bai Jingfei felt angry.

It was her that was ignored and doubted and now they were apologizing to heavenly doctor Ming. It felt as if she had been spurned.

"Who exactly are you apologizing to?" she said, raising her voice ever so slightly, but just enough to send the bandits into panic.

Amidst this whole drama Bai Jingfei had somehow forgotten that she wasn't actually head priestess NingNing whose real name was actually Ning Mei. She was actually feeling wronged

And offended over something that was actually true.

Either way, now, even if Wonky Teeth wasn't convinced, bear-man hybrid bandit leader would smack him every time he voiced his concerns. He was now ignored.

He had lost. Conman priestess FeiFei had won.
