Heavenly doctor Ling looked Ladder in the eye, as if saying 'well, then, what did you mean?' with a rather snarky attitude, but then quickly transitioned back into his happy go lucky expression.
He was usually quite polite so he was wondering what exactly had come over him. He was stunned with his own behavior, and frankly, a little bit disappointed with himself. It wasn't hard to see why he was.
First he had assumed someone's relationship, and then he was judging them when they said that it wasn't true.
It was the height of being impolite, and heavenly doctor Ling realized that he probably shouldn't have done what he had done. Perhaps he should've just apologized and walked away, but he felt compelled to learn what Ladder actually meant by what he said. His curiosity was really getting the best of him.
