"Some other guy? Who is this 'some other guy'?" Shawn asked with a threatening tone. "I don't know man, I only know that he is rich and a member of the Trident". Derek answered.
"Trident?" As soon as Shawn heard this, his heart started to beat faster, anyone who lives in Valor city knows who Trident are, they are the criminal organization here in Valor city who are involved with almost anything illegal one can imagine, from drugs to human trafficking, Trident has their hands on it and there seem to be nothing that can stop them from doing it.
The police, no matter how hard they tried couldn't do anything, there would be some success but the most they could do is arrest some low-standing individual in the organization.
The reason for their failure is because Trident has people in high places who always leak information when they are about to get caught, allowing them to cover up or at least throw a scapegoat out there to delay the investigation of the police or an investigation agency.
If his mother really got involved with a member of Trident, her life might be in danger and he has no hope with police seeing their track record against Trident and how they can't do anything against them.
"You didn't stop her even though you knew he was a member of the trident?" Shawn's eyes turned cold as his grip on Derek's collar got tighter.
"Look man, It was just the heat of the moment, this man came and started flirting with her and she decided to leave me with him, I just got very angry about her leaving me with another man, I wasn't thinking straight". Derek explained.
"I will give you only one chance to tell me everything you know about this man, if you don't speak up, I am going to rip your arms off". Shawn threatened again.
"I just know that his name is James Carten and he runs a real estate agency as his front while he mostly deals with drug trafficking behind the scene". Derek told him everything he knew about this man that his mother went along with.
With everything that he needed to know, Shawn finally let go of Derek. "If you ever speak of this, you know what happens right? You will die, remember that you just ratted someone from Trident". Shawn warned and walked away from the alley, he is really angry and wanted to kill Derek but he is still rational in his thoughts, he knows that killing Derek won't achieve anything and it might even cause him more trouble.
Derek who is finally able to collect himself looked at his dislocated arm and couldn't help but grit his teeth in pain, his eyes are still tearing up from the pain. "I won't let you off so easily". He growled as he remembered the words said by Shawn, as he recalled them, his face turned pale as he realized he fucked up, the pain in his arm made him forget what he was getting into.
He got involved with Trident by just bringing their name in his mouth so if something happens, death would the last thing that will happen to him, he will get tortured, his organs will be removed and he would be left to die in a cold room filled with other corpses.
Derek knows how the Trident works because he also has done some side jobs for them, knowing that he is fucked, he decided to leave Valor city and never come back, but first, he needs to fix his arm so he rushed towards the hospital.

Back to Shawn, he returned to his home and looked into James Carten to find more about him, Shawn couldn't just barge into some guy's house and ask him where his mother is, even with his superpowers he needs to do some preparation, first he needs to learn about James and where he lives, next he needs to find something to hide his face for the sake of hiding his identity.
Shawn knows that revealing his powers to the public eye will bring him disaster and he cannot risk it, if by chance his mother is alive and his identity gets out, the people who have his mother might use her against him.
So Shawn got in front of his computer and started looking up anything related to James Carten.
Internet is a beautiful place as he found more than he expected from it, he found where James Carten lives and what he does, at the front as Derek said, he is the owner of a real estate agency but as he looked into some internet forums filled with internet detectives, he found a lot of shady practices that James Carten is a part of.
Shawn, of course, is a sensible person and won't believe anything that he read on the internet but he was pretty surprised by how much information these people could collect, he doesn't know if these people accusing him of all these crimes are true or not but now it doesn't matter, him being just the member of Trident makes Shawn believe most of these allegations and some proof that they have provided here are pretty convincing. In Shawn's head, the government should hire these people instead of paying those corrupted bums who sit in front of their computers and do nothing.
Now he has James Carten's address, Shawn needs something which will help him use his power properly and he has the perfect thing in his mind.
He walked out of his house and directly headed towards the university by taking a taxi as he can't afford to be seen by someone standing butt naked in front of professor Newmon's lab, once he arrived there he rushed towards Professor Newmon's lab, and since it was late at night, there is no one there for him to hide from, he took out the spare key which was given to him by professor Newmon and unlocked the door.
He walked directly into the storage room and looked through each and every corner before he finally found what he was looking for, a long roll of thick latex sheet.
This sheet of latex is not simple latex but is actually anti compression and friction proof, professor Newmon had ordered them for some experiments and Shawn remembered that he has a lot of them stored in the storage, this will be perfect for his cover.
This friction-proof, anti compression latex was mostly used by space divers to protect them from fire igniting falls from space, space diving is a very extreme sport in this world and people want to survive their long fall so the invention of this suit was very helpful to those people.
But this latex is not just used by space divers but also super-powered speedsters who run very fast, this latex doesn't allow air to get compressed in front of it preventing it to heat up and ignite and it is also friction proof which prevents it from getting ripped.
This material is very common while making superhero and villain suits as it is very durable.
Shawn took the roll and walked out of the lab and locked the door behind it, he returned to his home and this time he didn't bother taking the taxi, he just ran in blitzing speed, it only took him 10 seconds to reach his home from his university, he could run faster but he felt like he would lose control.
As soon as he stopped in front of his home, he was butt naked, his clothes have completely vaporized because of the speed he ran in, and luckily with it being a late-night, no one saw him enter his house butt naked.
He went directly towards his room and started to build his suit and mask, since this is his first time he didn't bother to put any design or symbol on it like other superheroes, he is not planning to be the hero here, he just wants to track down his mother and bring her back safe and sound.
After an hour, he was finally done, he created a simple long-sleeved vest, trousers, gloves, shoes, and a make-shift mask.
And since the latex was red in color, his whole suit is red, Shawn looked at his suit and quickly put it on, now he is covered from top to bottom with only his eyes and nose having an opening.
"James Carten, I hope you didn't do anything to my mother, or else". Saying so Shawn zoomed out of his house in a blur.
