A lazy student like me could only wake up at 7:30 a.m., and I quickly get dressed. I rushed to the kitchen for breakfast, but when I reached there, I froze and looked with wide eyes. I couldn't believe the sight of it.
"Hello Kura!" I was welcomed by a big, dark man with an apron. It was my dad cooking breakfast with his sun-glasses on. There was my little sister, waiting to eat food made by my dad. Sakomi was humming a song, and when she saw me, she quit humming. "Brother Join us, dad had come back after a long time."
My lips got pressed together automatically; I put on a fake smile and replied, "Next time, Sakomi. I got to hurry." My dad turned around, and our eyes met. I let out exasperated sighs and turned away before he could talk to me. I ran as fast as I could and reached the class before the bell rang. Just as I entered, the bell rang for the first period. I sat down on my seat and saw Kiko's seat empty. Is she sick or what? The memory of her slap returned to me; I touched my cheeks, then sighed: "Yesterday, I went too far."
Whoosh! The door opened, I saw Kiko breathing heavily, "Sorry teacher, I am late today." She bowed.
"That's OK, come in."
Kiko comes to the classroom as she approaches her seat and our eyes meet. She turned away and sat on her chair. I felt like I should apologize since the guilt feeling got me. The class started, and before I could focus on the course, it was already lunch break. While we were having lunch, Taro asked me, "So how much did you reach?"
"What do you mean?" I tried to lie.
"Don't act dumb!" He pressured me.
"We broke up."
"Wha-what!!!!!" Taro grabbed my collar and shook my body, "WHY WHY WHY??????"
"Ca-" I couldn't talk; my words were all shuttering. I grabbed Taro's hand and punched him, "CLAM DOWN!"
"It hurts man."
"I wouldn't punch if it doesn't hurt."
"Anyway, what happened?"
"She decided to break up with me. I don't know why. She is out of my league."
"Sad you, sad, sad, sad." I don't know if he feels pity or sad for me, but I knew he was happy hearing that.
"HEYY, GUYSSSS, WANT TO HEAR A SAD LOVE STORY?" a girl with pink hair announced. It was my classmate, Sakura Fujiwara. She was the type of girl who always loves to hang out with her friends.
"Sure"
"What is it?"
"You always bring up interesting things, better be good this time as well."
I heard my classmates roaring in excitement, and Taro also decided to listen to it.
With an enigmatic smile, she proudly announced. "Hiroyuki Kuragari got slapped by Kiko Hanako yesterday. It seems like he got rejected so harshly. Poor Hiroyuki san." The moment I hear it, I couldn't look at Sakura anymore, and everyone stares at me and laughs.
"Nice try though."
"So sad."
"Hahaha."
"Who would even try that? She is out of your league."
I looked down and started to shake. I couldn't utter a word, and my high school life is ruined. Just as I thought that, I saw Kiko slapping Sakura, "How dare you say that to my boyfriend?" She had a severe eye, and even from my seat, I could tell that she was pissed off when Sakura humiliated me.
"What the hell?" Sakura tried to slap Kiko, but she blocked it.
"What do you know about us? Are you our guidance or what? Who gave you the right to put your nose in other's business huh?"
She couldn't utter a word. Maybe she is afraid of Kiko? Or maybe she knew she was at fault, I thought.
"This is my last warning to you."
"Fine, whatever." Sakura backed down, and then the bell rang. When Kiko was turning around, she saw me, and immediately, she avoided eye contact. I mean, I also couldn't even maintain eye contact. I don't know what she is thinking? Taro couldn't utter a word also, so I stared outside the window when the afternoon class started. It was a gloomy afternoon class. The weather was as if it was going to rain now.
"It will rain soon I guess." I whispered to myself. The class ended while my head was in the cloud. I packed my things faster, so I could wait for Kiko. I wanted to apologize to her for the rude behavior. But the timing was just wrong...
"Hiroyuki, can you help me collect the project? Since the class president is absent today?" My homeroom teacher gave me work.
"BAD TIMING TEACHER." I thought. I didn't have any choice, so I agreed. I collected the project from students before they left the class. While I was managing projects, my ears caught the sound of heavy rain outside. "I guessed it right." I reached Kiko's table, but she was already gone, but her assignment was on the table. I took the project and then submitted it to the teacher.
"Thank you, Hiroyuki." my teacher responded.
"It was nothing compare to your hard work you do for us teacher." I smiled.
I bowed and went to my classroom back. I grabbed my bag and then opened the umbrella in front of the school building's door. I saw Kiko waiting for the rain to stop. She didn't have an umbrella for herself. I wanted to apologize to her by taking her under the umbrella, but I thought it would be unpleasant, so I gave her the cold shoulder and went ahead. Just as I started to walk, I felt guilty leaving her behind. I was caught between a rock and a hard place.
"Geez, I don't care anymore." I went back and asked her, "Want to share the umbrella?"
"T-Thanks." She blushed.
It was such an unpleasant moment between us, and she wasn't able to talk to me like I couldn't speak to her. I took an act of brave courage and started a conversation.
"I-I am sorry for what i have done yesterday" I looked away.
"I went too far as well. It was my fault." Kiko blushed.
"It was my fault not yours."
"No, it was my fault."
"I refused to accept it since i was the one who started it."
"I dragged you to my problems, so technically it was my fault."
"MY FAULT."
"MY FAULT." We both stare at each other, we were so close to each other, and when we knew it, we both blushed.
"We both were at fault." Kiko avoided eye contact.
"Yeah, I agreed."
SCREECH! A black Toyota crown car stopped in front of us. We both froze right there, and the window of the vehicle slowly opened. It was none other than my dad, and I felt anger as if a volcanic suddenly erupt.
"I came to pick you, Son."
"Why? You don't have to." I harshly informed.
"....." It was the last straw.
"Here, Kiko." I passed the umbrella to her. I ran as fast I could straight. I don't want to go back home.
"Hiroyuki." Kiko shouted, but I ignored her.
"WHY NOW? WHY NOW? WHY DO YOU GUYS HAVE TO COME BACK? I DON'T CARE ANY MORE, LEAVE ME ALONE."
