Chapter 107 - Chapter 107 - One part of the story

Once they all were settled in the car, Adrian wrapped his fingers around Jennifer's hands and looked into her eyes. Jennifer could see some lingering fear floating in his eyes just like she could see longing agony in James'. "Jennifer, whatever I'm about to tell you is taking up every ounce of courage I have and I'm afraid that you would judge me after you know but please remember that I love you with all my heart and soul." Adrian sounded so solemn and serious and Jennifer couldn't help but feel nervous. She was getting uneasy with the amount of tension in the car and her intuition told her that the upcoming news is definitely not a good one.

"You remember the time when your father had decided to engage you with Joseph?" Adrian asked Jennifer. "Yeah. It was the day I decided to run away from home." Jennifer answered. That day was still fresh in her memory. It was such a dark day of her life. It was so painful. "That day, after your father told me you were getting engaged with Joseph, I cried a lot in that same room." Adrian began his explanation slowly. One thing at a time.

"I know. Your tears were the only thing that gave me enough courage to stand up against my dad. I can't see you in pain and that was all I could see that time when I looked at you so I decided to tell my father that he had reached his limit of oppressing me that day. Things have never been the same after then." Jennifer remembered her emotions with a heavy heart.

Her beautiful relationship with her father was ruined the day she decided that she would take no more of his dominant nature. "Before coming to your party, James had gone at Abby's house." Adrian spoke another sentence but got immediately cut off my Jennifer's loud voice, "What!!! Why??" Jennifer was so loud that she didn't care if she sounded like she was shouting. Why would James go to Abby's house? Why would he do something like that? James and Abby had some classes together. That was true but they weren't so close that they would go to each other's house.

"Actually, Abby is my ex." Jennifer's eyes turned to the size of a paper plate. She was so shocked that she didn't know what to speak. Abby had dated James sometime in the past. How come that was true? Abby never told her? Even when they were on good terms. "No. She dated Winston before he died in a car crash." Jennifer spoke the truth from her perspective. "That's just one part of the story." Adrian said and gripped Jennifer's hands more tightly as if giving her strength to handle the upcoming news.

"In reality, Abby belonged to another mafia group that ran deep in this town and they have a rule. A person can only date another person from the same group. This was done for security purposes." James explained. "Just like we have the no lying rule." Jennifer said and saw Adrian and James nod in response. "You see, every mafia group have their own rules and their own punishments. In this world nothing is right and nothing is wrong. Whatever the leader says is right and whatever he says is wrong."

Jennifer made a 'o' with her lips as she stuffed this new information inside her head. "If Abby couldn't date anyone apart from the members of her group, then that means Winston was also the member of her group." She told Adrian and James what she had inferred from her analysis of the information. "Yeah. You're correct. They both were the members of our rival group." James told Jennifer.

"But then how is she your ex?" Jennifer asked them with a weird face. "Actually, she was in a relationship with me but to disguise our relationship, she dated Winston." James told her. "So, if you put it this way. She was cheating on Winston with you and Winston was cheating on me with her." Jennifer burst out laughing the moment Adrian nodded.

Karma! Winston, this is karma. Cheat on your girlfriend and your girlfriend cheats on you. Serves you just right. "He deserved it!" Adrian did a high five with Jennifer who was surprisingly happy to receive this news. Maybe, all this mafia business had broadened her horizons about what was wrong. "You also remember that we were dating secretly. That was because I wanted to eliminate every mafia in the town before I publically introduced you as my girlfriend because my rivals could target you in hopes of hurting me" Adrian said these lines and they actually made sense to Jennifer. "But when I got to know that you were about to get engaged with Joseph, I lost control that evening." Adrian confessed.

"James had gone to Abby's house to kill her that day and in my emotions, I didn't think of anything else other than how badly I wanted to kill someone. I went to Abby's house and killed her." Adrian finally dropped the bomb anxiously waiting for Jennifer's reaction. Jennifer didn't display anything. This news was the most shocking thing she had listened to until now. Abby being mafia, Winston being mafia, Abby dating James, they were all pretty surprising, to be honest but this was the most astonishing.

Jennifer slowly processed the information and then burst out screaming. "What? You k-killed Abby?" she said in shock. Much to everyone's surprise the first thing Jennifer did was to see Adrian's hands. "With these hands?" Jennifer asked sounding like a pure crackhead. Adrian didn't know how to respond to this. He just nodded his head awkwardly. "You're not angry?" he asked with a broken smile, feeling kind of awkward. It felt like the silence before the storm hits.

"No." Jennifer said smiling. "Why?" Adrian and James said it together. Jennifer laughed a really creepy laugh. She looked at Adrian and James with a scary look on her face.
