Adrian did not reply. He didn't even move slightly. He was just staring at the ceiling with tears glistening in his eyes. "Buddy, I know you are angry with me but please wake up. I need you. Jennifer needs you." Jennifer's name caused Adrian to move his hand the tiniest bit. James got so excited to see Adrian reply to him after an hour of trying. Just when, Adrian had began to reply to James, the nurse came inside and told him that the visiting hours are over and insisted that he left Adrian alone to rest.
James exited the room but his eyes were locked in Adrian's still body. He went outside and called Jennifer. "Hi. This is Jennifer." She spoke from the other side. "Jennifer, I need your help. Please come to the Remedy plus hospital." James said. Jennifer was currently roaming in the streets after her last conversation with her father where she made it transparent that she wasn't going to return home if her father did not cancel the so called 'engagement' between Joseph Strokes and Jennifer Williams.
Feeling entirely listless and lonely, looking like a helpless homeless woman, with one of her heals broken and another in her hand, walking barefoot on the hard concrete, when Jennifer received the call from James, she was making a list of things that could possibly worsen her life. Although, she hadn't realized that her list was incomplete until she heard what James had to say. "Adrian is hospitalized. I need you come here. I will explain everything later."
When James hung up the phone, Jennifer swiftly walked in the direction of the hospital. In her hurry, she didn't even see that a broken beer bottle was lying on the road and she stepped over it only to fall down and notice deep cuts and pieces of dirt and glass in her feet. The wounds were bleeding. "Oh well, you can wait. I have to reach the hospital." Jennifer told herself as she tried getting up from the floor and failed at it miserably.
Jennifer winced when she felt the pain shot up in her back and legs as she fell to the ground again. When Jennifer finally got up she placed her foot in the ground to see the blood flowing out of it in all directions. One way or the other Jennifer limped through the streets to reach the hospital in a pitiful way. She looked so pitiful that when she reached the hospital no one recognized her, a nurse also asked her if she needed some treatment to which Jennifer declined. She sat on bench and dialed James' number. "I'm here. Where are you?"
When James reached Jennifer, he was so scared watching her covered in half torn shabby clothes, broken heels, barefoot with blood coming out that he didn't even know what to say. As difficult as it was to explain to her what happened today, James was more tongue tied looking at her state currently. He definitely couldn't let Adrian see her like this. A few hours that they are apart and they are such a mess. How did they survive until now. "What happened to you?" He ran towards her and placed her foot on his lap as he motioned a nurse to come and tend to her injuries.
"Can you please tell me what's going on?" Jennifer asked as the stinging pain was felt when the nurse removed a piece of glass from her foot. "Rest everything can wait." Interpretation: I don't know how I will explain to you the mess between me, your lover and your ex-best friend. When Jennifer finally got her feet bandaged, she looked up James who had this peculiar look on his face which screamed, 'I have a lot to say but I say nothing.'
"Can we talk now?" Jennifer again asked. "Adrian is admitted in room no. 56-" these words were enough for Jennifer to stand up at once and fall back on her seat due to extreme pain. "Can I see him?" Jennifer was seriously dreading the answer to her question. "The visiting hours for today are over but you can see him tomorrow morning." James replied. "Will you spend the night here?" Jennifer again asked. "Yes." James told her.
Jennifer shuffled in the seat where she was sitting. After a few minutes, James told her, "You should go home. Come tomorrow. I'm here with him for tonight." Jennifer declined straight away. "I don't want to go home. I have no home." James was probably still in shock as Jennifer interpreted his lack of words. "What happened at the party?" He slowly spoke, sure that the answer was not going to be pleasant. Jennifer told James all about the party and how Adrian got into a fight and then how her father fixed her engagement with Joseph Strokes.
James didn't think even for a second that Jennifer's father could be such a scary and psychotic person. He was hell bent on ruining Adrian's and Jennifer's lives. He always thought of him as a hard working businessman who loved his family. A perfect husband and a perfect father. Guess, what camera's portray isn't all truth. "So? What are you going to do now?" he asked as Jennifer finished her story. "I don't know" Jennifer replied truthfully. "I've never lived without my parents. You know, high class security and stuff... so I don't know what to do now but one thing is for sure, I am not returning home. Not until my dad calls off this engagement drama and apologizes to Adrian."
All the sufferings that Jennifer endured today didn't break her determination. She was as firm as ever. No one could hurt Adrian, not even her own dad. "You really love him. Don't you?" James looked at Jennifer to see her eyes suddenly turn soft. "More than you can imagine. I mean, I've loved him even before I realized that I love him. He's always been there for me and I want to be there for him. No matter what it takes." Jennifer's answer touched James. He would've done the same for Abby.
