"Yeah. Even if I was in a relationship with him but that doesn't matter now. He died." Abby spoke truthfully. "What? He died?" James wasn't in a mood for games but a small part of him still hoped that Abby would return to him. "Yeah." Abby tried looking down, acting. "He died on a mission, trying to save me." What a fake story. No one should buy it but everybody did.
James jumped on his knees, "This means that you're single. Right?" He was planning this for so long. Only if Abby would join him. "Yeah. Oh James! Don't go there please. I beg you. We've already had this conversation for a hundred times." Abby was alarmed. Back when they were in a relationship, Abby revealed her true identity by mistake. When James discovered that Abby was also a part of mafia. He tried hard, day and night, trying to convince her to ditch them and join his own mafia.
He assured her that they would protect her, that he would protect her but Abby repeatedly declined the offer. James wasn't aware of the dating rule. To leave this group and join other would mean to accept the fact that she was in love with him, and that directly meant placing his life in danger. Everything she would have done till now would come crashing down. Abby wouldn't allow that. She wouldn't allow anything, not even herself, to hurt James.
"But we could have the life we've always wanted. You and me." James wanted to persuade Abby today. If not, he would have to kill her. "Baby, I already told you. The only way out of this group is death. Do you want me to die?" Abby ended the sentence where she knew James would have no answer. She knew that he will not be able to accept the fact that Abby died because he had pushed her into that situation.
"You know what, I'm leaving." Abby hugged James' torso from behind and started letting out small cries making James sigh. "Let go." She silently let go making James scoff until she held his hand. "Listen James, I know I've been inconsiderate of you feelings before, I know I've hurt you and if this time you could actually give me a chance to prove to you I like… love you. I'll do my best to make sure you're happy too." James hesitated at her confession. No doubt, he still liked her, but even after everything he was still hesitant. "And how am I actually going to be sure that you're gonna do this?" a small smile appeared on Abby's face before she hugged James and started leaving small pecks all over his face making James' cheeks become red. Abby was so done trying to fight herself. She done being scared of that stupid rule. She was done lying to herself about James. It was time she accepted the truth, that she was madly in love with him.
"Stay here tonight. I'm not letting you go so.." she dragged James to her bed and as he sat down and Abby walked towards her desk and removed her first drawer. Behind that, there was a small opening in which a medium sized steel box was placed. She took it over to where James was sitting while he was in confusion. "What's that?" James' question made her look up at him with a grin on her face. "Don't call me creepy. But it was supposed to be your anniversary gift and lots and lots of notes that I made for you but then I got shy and hid them here." That made James grab a letter out of the box and open it to start reading it.
"James, I'm writing this because I am looking at you playing with your friends. Indeed, you are a terrible monopoly player but you look so cute I could squish your cheeks and maybe help you out-" Abby shut James' mouth and glared and at him. "Cut it out. It was long back and I was cringey." James smirked and grabbed her arm until he made her sit beside him to start reading all her letters. "It's okay. I find them cute." While he was reading them, Abby looked up at him and smiled.
"Idiot, I like you." Abby whispered to herself as she giving him a small peck on his cheeks making him turn to her. "Eh?" James gave her a peck on her lips before going back to reading the letters. "James, I saw you today. Do you have any idea how cute you look when trying to pick out a gift for me? No. You don't otherwise you will fall in love with yourself." James read this letter while Abby's cheeks a shade of bright red.
"You were there that day!" James jumped at the thought as memories of Abby and I'm flashed in his mind. Abby had won a competition, James thought to bring her a gift to boost her confidence further. He was roaming around the entire market, making a fool of himself in every store he stepped because he couldn't decide the perfect gift. Then, a lady came to him and told him that girls like handmade gifts better than these.
James headed home, after deciding to bake a cake for her. "You sent that girl. I am correct?" James was laughing so hard. "Yeah. I knew you didn't have much allowance left that month and you were still trying to purchase a gift for me. I decided to help you out. I knew the only handmade gift you could make was to bake me a cake." Abby pouted adorably. "Oh Abby! Only if you could've told me." James was feeling embarrassed.
"It would have sucked all the fun out of it." Abby clicked her tongue playfully. James opened up a random note from the box, "James, please step on me. That smirk is going to be the death of me one day. I already know it. Damn, you look so sexy. That move, oh my god! The way you pulled off the stunt with the bike, I was so turned on."
Before James could read any further, Abby snatched the note away from him and stuffed it in her mouth.
