Adrian talked to the policemen and made sure there were no infractions under Jennifer's name and came back to her. Jennifer turned to him, "Wow! I've never seen you more worried." She laughed at him pointing her index finger at him but suddenly she felt his embrace around her. She quieted down and hugged him back.
"Don't worry me like that ever again." He says. Jennifer smiled hugging him tighter, "I wasn't trying to-" "Well, you did." He grabs her elbow and looked into her eyes. "What would I have done if it was more serious?" "Well..." Jennifer thought a little, "You'll have one person less to care about when her father goes mad." She giggled again but he squeezed her elbow.
"Don't say that, Jennifer. Are you even taking my feelings into consideration?" The word 'feeling' made Jennifer's heart flutter. He felt something. But, the very next moment this perfect memory was marred.
"Adrian there are a lot of things to say but for now, just go. I'll talk to you later when it's safe." Jennifer said as she pushed Adrian out of the room because she had seen her parent's car in the parking lot. Adrian opened his mouth to say something but Jennifer just placed a palm on his mouth. "Go to school. I'll take a leave. Please get homework for me."
Jennifer knew the only way to get Adrian away right now was to give him something to do. So she did. When Jennifer's parents entered the room she was back on her chair. Her mother came rushing forward, hugged her and sighed in relief. "Thank god, you're okay." She was not willing to let go of Jennifer even though she was choking her.
"Mom, I'm safe. It's okay." Jennifer assured her mother that no harm was done. "Honey, please be careful. You are so precious for me." Jennifer's mother finally let go of her when Jennifer's father said these words from behind. He held Jennifer's hand and kissed her on the forehead, duly noting that Jennifer did not respond to any sign of affection from him. "She's still mad." He thought to himself.
"I want to go home." Jennifer told her parents, "I have already fulfilled all the necessary documentation." Jennifer's mother was well aware of this awkwardness between her husband and her daughter. She wanted to mend it. "Should we go out and eat?" she suggested. Jennifer declined the offer immediately. Spending time with her family, which was once a happy memory, was now a reason for sourness in her.
Without another word, Jennifer went home. She didn't even wait for her parents to come. She want into her room and sat in her bed thinking about words Adrian said at the police department. He might have indicated that he loved her. Jennifer was in love with Adrian. There was no denying that. But, was the feeling mutual? Did he love her like she did? There is now way she could confirm that. Maybe she should talk to James. James would tell Adrian that she asked about it. No! What else?
Jennifer couldn't come up with any person who knew him. "Why does he have to be so secretive and cold to everyone?" She said in frustration. When nothing came up in her mind, she had no option left but to ask him about this herself. She had to propose him. See his reaction. Jennifer wiggled in bed thinking of all the possibilities of how she could do that and what could happen after that.
She was scared to actually do that because Adrian already had someone he loved and there was a very miniscule chance that, that person would be her. What if he rejected her? They would even loose the friendship they have. "I might actually regret if I don't ask him now. And if he would reject me, I would find solace in the fact that I just got those feelings off my chest." Jennifer finally decided that it was time she took her odds. "Let's get it!" She said, getting up from her bed.
