Chapter 3 - Chapter 3- The books that fell

Jennifer and Abby were now going for their next class when the corridor went up in sudden commotion. Everybody started running helter-skelter. One boy shouted "Get out off the way! Master Adrian Rains and Master James Whitmore coming through." That was succeed by a thunderous stampede of children and high pitched squeals from various girls. That was the first time Jennifer got a clear view of who Adrian Rains was.

He was handsome as hell. No! That would be an understatement. Jennifer was sure he was a hundred-times handsome then a celebrity she had ever seen. He was tall. His inky dark hair looked like it was combed by his fingers and swept back away from his face. He had a strong, defined and masculine jawline. It was perfection in her eyes. He just looked too good to be true. She was utterly impressed. How could a mortal man look this stunning.

Adrian was about to pass by when a girl pushed Jennifer and her books were knocked right out of her hands and landed straight in front of Adrian's feet . Out of instinct Jennifer rushed to pick them up and coincidently she blocked Adrian's path. A few stand by's gasped and Abby tried to pull Jennifer out of the way. But Jennifer did not budge.

That was when she noticed her hand was tightly held by James. "Miss, who are you and how dare you block his path?" James asked with flames in his eyes. "I…Ummm…fall…my books" Jennifer tried to explain but she got tounge-tied. This was the first time she received so much attention. Jennifer was not really much of a attention seeker. She was quiet and trusted only a few. Since, she very well understood the power and money, her family held she was really cautious of her company she kept around. So, she got all flustered. Adrian raised a hand, signaling for quiet.

Adrian was glaring down at her. His eyes were hostile, making her want to shrink to the floor and disappear. The way he looked at her was definitely the defination of phrase, if looks could kill.

The whole corridor fell silent. "Miss, I am Adrian Rains. Here are your books." Adrian said while handing over Jennifer her books that lay scattered over the floor a few seconds ago. With that he quietly passed by. Jennifer was awe struck. She couldn't even move. Slowly the crowd melted by.

Just then a girl approached her. "Hi am Debbie". She said nonchalantly "Hi. I'm Jennifer" she said while extending her hand for a handshake. She shook her hand and fake smiled. Debbie gave Jennifer mean vibes.

Jennifer slightly nodded. Abby and Winston were by her side. "Do you know, Adrian just handed you your books. Wow! That's so lucky. I wish he would just look at me. But make sure to know your limits. He is mine." The girl ended her speech in aura of superiority. "He would never look at that ugly face of yours." Abby retorted. The girl scoffed and left running behind her beloved Adrian. Soon, another day at school was over.

After a few days,

Today was Friday. Jennifer was getting ready to go shopping with Winston. She was wearing a pink skirt and white shirt. At the mall, she met Winston at the gate. They linked their arms and went into the mall. They went to multiple shops and tried many dresses. At last, they picked a dress. It was an exquisite evening dress, glittering from the silver and blue sequins that covered it. The off-shoulder, V-neck, mermaid gown felt so luxurious that Jennifer couldn't help but run her fingers over it . Jennifer matched it with a purse and high heels! Soon it was dark so Winston and Jennifer headed back home after dinner in a nearby restaurant.

Next morning was Saturday. Jennifer woke up and got dressed for school. She came downstairs and met her parents on the dining table. "Good morning Jennifer. Did you sleep well?" Jennifer's mother asked with a sweet smile. Jennifer smiled and said "Good morning mom. Yes, I slept really well." Jennifer do you remember today is the business party. Are you coming?" Jennifer's father inquired. "Yes dad I am already prepared. I got myself a dress and heels. Don't worry I'll be there." Jennifer told her father . "Very well. Off you go to school then." Her father smiled.

Jennifer finished her breakfast and was ready to leave for school when a notification on her phone popped up. It was a text from Abby saying that she will not come to school today as she was not feeling well. Jennifer asked Abby if she should come over but Abby replied that it was better if she went to school. So Jennifer headed towards the bus-stop.

In the bus, she tried to study for the upcoming test but the bus was so wobbly that she couldn't even read a word. Groaning in irritation, she slammed the book shut.

On a red light her attention was drawn to towards a black car that was just next to her window. In the car was sitting Adrian. He looked up for a moment and she met his intended gaze. She suddenly felt something strange. She felt like he was looking deeply into her soul as if he was searching if there were any hidden secrets while she just became lost in his eyes. His eyes were like a black hole, sucking her in without warning, without mercy and without a way out. She gazed at him more intently, trying to see as deep as she could, but she could only gaze at the surface of who this boy was. She felt mesmerized, hypnotized as she swallowed in a subconscious gesture.

Her breathing became less even and her mouth became dry. Suddenly, the red light turned green and the bus started again. Soon, she was outside the school . She was waiting for Winston to arrive but Winston did not come to school. The bell rang indicating that the first class was about to begin but Winston still did not come.
