Chereads / Hurting Hope: Freedom With Sins / Chapter 3 - Dark Night!

Chapter 3 - Dark Night!

Ken was still wandering in the jungle, but this time, he was not confused about which way to go. He knew the right path because of the map he had taken from Stephen's bag. A few more hours of struggle and he will succeed. His great determination to be free is why he is still alive.

After running for three hours, the sky turned dark…. night began.

There was still an endless path to travel. Tired and hungry, and needed rest, even though he wanted to take a nap, but fear of being caught kept him awake.

Ken was starving and needed food to make more energy for the body to function properly. He started looking for things he can use for food. Without food, he would not have enough energy to cover the next distance. Even if wants to eat meat but if he lights a fire, they would find him by seeing the smoke.

Ken decided to depend on fruits for that night. While climbing on a fruit tree, he thought of a plan.

'If they don't find me, other wild animals will, and tear me apart. '

The weather was chilly, and he was hungry too, but he wouldn't give up because of his firm determination.

He climbed up the tree and cut big leaves half of his height and cut big shoots of trees which looked like bamboo trees. After cutting them and throwing them on the ground, he also collected some thin shoots that would help him bind them all together.

Finished with that, Ken climbed down, bound them all. He cut big stems and opened them widely; it gave a sturdy base for his tree bed and then carried it high in the tree.

He tied it to the tree with the help of flexible branches and then tied another end of this bed to a parallel branch in front of it. It was a thick stem of bamboo that was strong enough to bear his weight. For comfort, he spread many big and soft leaves inside it.

Now he had to find fruits to fill his stomach. It looked like luck was on his side, as there were many trees with pink-colored, peach-like fruits.

He collected 5 pieces and sat down on his leafy bed and started eating. It was the most delicious fruit he had ever tasted, maybe because he was starving or maybe because in trouble he admired every single blessing.

The leafy bed was strong, but what worried him was that his bed did not look sturdy. He took off his shirt and tied his leg to the thick branch. Here, even if the bed fell, he would stay in the tree because of his leg. The night was freezing and full of terror. He listened to the sounds of different wild animals.

From above, he saw wild animals roaming around. Even if the night was terrifying, he had to survive this long night. He had to spend the entire night hiding in the tree.

He ate his fill and looked toward the sky. The sky was clear. Stars seemed to twinkle in the sky. It was the only thing that gave him a good feeling.

Ken looked toward the sky and thought about those moments which were very painful for him when he became a captive of that agency.

Each moment was still fresh in his mind, like it was the story of yesterday. He remembered the time when he was taken from his orphan house and forced to work for them.

It was a frosty night and there were nearly twenty more children sleeping on their beds calmly, arranged by the wall as ten beds with the right wall and another ten in front of them.

It was a blue-colored room designed for boys. There were buckets full of toys in the room's corner. Moonlight entered the room through three gigantic windows.

A boy two feet tall and with a slim body laying down in his bed, having a plastic gun behind his pillow. He tried to sleep but couldn't due to pain in his stomach.

He looked toward the ceiling and there was a poem painted on it.

"Night is dark and scary but with hope, you turn it to merry.

Wait for the right time, your future will be shiny and full of glory."

Ken stared toward the moon. He loved to do this.

Suddenly, he heard glass breaking. A man entered the room and started opening the other two windows, and two men entered the room silently through them.

He woke up and sensed there was something wrong. He jumped from his bed, took his toy gun, and ran toward the toilet attached to his room.

Ken ran barefoot toward the toilet and shut the door. He thought they were thieves, but he did not expect them to have a bigger plan.

Ken locked the door and started looking toward it with anxious eyes, thinking they would not find him and that he could hide but his heart rate and respiratory rate both increased. Time passed slowly at that moment of terror.

Then suddenly Ken heard their footsteps running down through the stairs. He thought there was no one left. He is safe now and can run from there. He thought he was out of their sight.

He cracked the door a little and looked outside, but there was no one.

He started creeping toward the window. He thought he could jump out of there. He saw none of his roommates, and there were toys scattered everywhere in the room.

"Maybe they ran outside". He mumbled to himself.

He looked down through the window and saw it was very high. If he jumped through there, he may get serious injuries. He had to find another way to escape through this trouble.

He had seen many movies and action scenes, so he thought he could apply one of these scenes in this situation. He was very brave and always thought he was born for a special reason.

His legs were trembling, but he grasped his gun and ambled toward the door.

Everyone, including staff and children, gathered in the main hall next to the stairs. It was an enormous hall where kids eat and do other activities. He saw a man wearing a black hat with a red skull brooch.

He looked like a gentleman with a clean-shaven face, black glasses even at night. There were also nearly six men who came with him, who wore the same black hats with skull brooches.

'He is blind or wearing goggles for style'. Ken thought it was leading like a leader but did not get his clear image, so tried to crawl toward the stairs to look at him.

He was saying. "My dear children, we are taking you to a new place where you will be free to learn and play. Don't worry, I know my entry scared you. I know our behavior was not friendly but believe me, I am taking you to a better life."

"Dear sisters, don't worry we also love these children like you, but you are not giving them the power they deserve. If they come with us, they can learn more and become more powerful." After this, he lifts one kid who was blind, so he was more frightened than anyone in this hall.

He hugged him and said don't worry, everything is fine, nothing is going wrong. One of these sisters started arguing with that mysterious man so suddenly he took out his pistol and pointed it toward her. Before he shot her, Ken jumped from his position and bit at that man's hand.

That man, surprised by the sudden attack, threw Ken away and covered his hand with a tissue he took out from his pocket.

"You little boy, you are brave, but a little stupid. Well, what can I expect from kids? Well listen, what would you have done if this act of yours made me pull the trigger and kill your sister. Well, I like your cleverness and bravery. Did you wanted to be a hero? But always remember. In the real world only the villain wins the game at the end."

He looked toward Ken, and Ken was looking toward him with eyes full of anger.

Ken continuously looked toward that broach on his hat. He wore a blue shirt with black paint and a creepy smile on his face. They locked all the staff of this orphan house in the room on the right side of the hall.

More than 500 children were loaded in four trucks that were obviously modified. Ken looked back at the orphanage with eyes full of longing because in his heart he knew they were never coming back here.

After stuffing all the children inside, the automatic door of the container closed slowly and the last ray of light vanished. It was completely dark inside.

Ken was still very vigilant and was thinking about how to escape or make trouble for their kidnappers. When he was thinking about all this, a strange smell suddenly hit his nostrils and he felt sleepy.

Before he knew it, he was lying on the floor, sleeping. How could a kid's cleverness beat a professional and from all this setup, it was obvious that this was not the first time they were doing such a thing?
