Chapter 43 - Beast Tide (4)

"Let the blood of the beasts dye our bodies red." cried the soldiers and Durant. This is the battle cry of Gigantus soldiers when they fought against beasts only.

They were surprised at how quickly Daren rushed out and provoked the wyvern. He had instantly gained its attention from the moment he stepped on the field. Even though they found his actions quite reckless. they had to commend him for taking the strongest foe away from them.

Once all the elite soldiers had landed on the ground, they readied their spears in a sharp angle and furiously charged manner. Even though they had fearsome faces, the soldiers were in actuality very calm.

During training camp, their teachers would constantly remind them that calmness was the key to victory. They could display a face of anger and bravery but internally, they must assess their situations at all times.

For them, to 'think' was just another part of the fight. They understood that the battle against the lower levels has to finish as fast and cleanly as possible.

If they took too long or lost too many lives, they might not be able to support the fight against the wyvern.

They were the best trained and most skilled men within the city guards. The people that came after them were not as skilled and had n to spent much time on a battlefield.

Even if the number of soldiers was high, they were still regular humans who would not be able to do any damage to the wyvern on their own. This is why the wyvern must be finished while the two cultivators were alive.

Durant led the charge as he pointed his sword forwards and into the horde. The men all started to spread as they created a U-shaped encirclement around the first group of beasts.

These are just your regular, everyday, nonmagical beasts. There were about 200 rhinos, hippos, and tigers. These animals came in a variety of colors.

Some had a dull, brown color to their skin and fur while others had a more vibrant color such as fiery red or deep purple.

About 3/4 of the group had boring colors with no appeal while the rest had beautiful skin and fur. Those gorgeous body parts would definitely sell for a hefty amount as nobles loved clothing made from beast furs and skin.

Not only did they look eye-catching and stylish but they were supposedly very comfortable.

This was what most peasants knew about from rumors but could never confirm themselves as the price was pretty high.

The soldiers who were distracted by the allure of money and comfort quickly shook their heads internally as they regained their composure.

"This is the battlefield. I can think about the profits once I get out alive." thought the men in unison as they finished their encirclement of the first wave.

After the beats had fully entered the U-shaped encirclement, the soldiers did not hesitate to start connecting the ends and formed a 0 shaped encirclement.

The 200 or so beast had been fully surrounded by these men. On a regular day, each one of the elite soldiers was skillful enough to take one of these menacing beasts. Now though, it was 730 vs 200.

If things went right, the soldiers could easily finish the battle and swiftly assist Honorable Knight Durant.

Durant was not part of this formation as he had gone ahead to delay the 150 magic beasts. He would not waste his time dealing with scrubs.

The animals did not take long to realize that they had been surrounded. That's when they all the quick decision to target a specific region to breakout.

The beasts did not hesitate to choose as they targeted the left side of the circle. As soon as they moved to make a turn, the horde was caught off guard by 7 meter long spears that flew at them with intense force.

These metal spears with black points had sliced through the air with no resistance as most of them pierced through the brains and abdomens of the group.

These spears that were thrown with herculean force had ravaged the group with ease as turning their bodies around has caused a small gap in their defenses to be exposed.

The experienced soldiers took advantage of this and half of them simultaneously threw their spears.

365 lighting fast spears hit pretty much every single of the highly condensed group of beasts.

As the spears dug themselves into the ground, 99% of the beats had already taken their last breath. There were a couple that was still struggling as they had gotten lucky and not been hit in the vitals.

The once vigilant and fearless group of predators had lost their pride and been slapped with expressions of despair. It was an enjoyable sight for those who liked hunting but it would also be stomach-churning for those with weak hearts.

This did not matter to the elite guards as the half of them that didn't throw theirs spears swiftly ran towards the stragglers and finished their opponents with ease.

This scary execution of 200 wild beasts took no more than a minute as the soldier's movements and actions seemed like a perfectly written play. There were no mistakes and the spear throwers seldom missed a shot.

As expected some of the beasts had gotten lucky but this was where it had ended for them.

As the group that had reached the lifeless horde finished off the last remaining animal, an orange furred tiger, they started to take the spears out from the bodies of the dead.

The silver, metallic spears glistened brightly as the sun shined on the crimson blood that drips from each of them. The soldiers were unfazed by this bloody scene as they shook the spears violently to get rid of the remnants of brain matter and organs from the weapons.

The mushy body matter flung off the spears and returned to the gross pile of cleanly killed monsters as they joined the blood that was flowing into the land. It would not take very look for the green prairie to die in red as a drizzle had started.

This light rain would help to wash the spears a bit faster.

After the spears had nothing but some blood on it, the men would toss the spear safely towards their comrades.

The ones who had thrown their flawless tools had gotten them back with the glorious blood of their prey smeared on all sides,

They smiled lightly as the morale on their side increased by a hefty amount. These were their first kills in a while so they were proud that their skills had not deteriorated.

The process of swiftly cleaning the sticks of death took longer than the slaughter of the helpless creatures. It took a whole 3 minutes to redistribute the spears.

The mighty men then look towards the next wave of the beasts they had to engage.

A creature with the silver furred head of a bloodthirsty wolf. The eyes it had were both glowing in a ghostly red due to the bloodlust and darkness caused by the gray rain clouds.

The torso of a 10 feet tall, muscular, brown horse. Its legs and hoves were replaced by the limbs and paws of a silver furred wolf. All the fur on its body was definitely shining lavishly.

Even though the fur of a wild monster is to be unkempt and tangled up, these creatures seemed to somehow have perfectly groomed and silky-looking fur.

If one touched these beasts, they would feel a heavenly mellowness entering the nerves.

The soldiers quickly regrouped and turned their gaze towards the single man who was fighting these amazing creatures.

The man was sliding and kiting around the beast as he made quick slashes at them. Durant was using his backup sword to slice at the limbs while trying to target the knees as accurately as he could.

His maneuvers were so quick and smooth that the soldiers could not keep up with his movement at all.

All they saw were successions of very fast blurs next to the beasts.

After the blur passed one of them, there would be deep sword wounds that caused blood to pour out and dye their fur coats in red.

Most of the silver wolves were at level 1 of body strengthening while there were about a dozen in level 2. There were also 4 level 3's.

Being Body Strengthening Level 5, Mid Grade, he could defeat most of them in one or 2 shots but that would be a bad idea.

To conjure such a storm on his own would cause him to use all of his energy and stamina in one go. This would mean that he would not be able to fight against the wyvern if Daren could not keep up with his boastful claims.

The soldiers seeing their captain hold back the dangers by himself for the past 5 minutes was something they had become used to.

The 730 men split up into groups of 5. 146 groups would each target the level one and two beasts by surrounding them and engaging them slowly. They would keep the beats in check and finish them off if possible.

If they could not find a chance to hit a decisive blow, they would let the captain swoop and swiftly do so to the already tired-out monster.

Even though these soldiers are regular humans, they represent the true pinnacles of non-cultivator bodies. They had heaps of metal-like muscle that could do outrageous feats of strength with a slight push from their holders.

Combined with tons of experience, knowledge, and skill, the soldier would easily hold level ones and twos for a small amount of time. This would allow Durant to quickly deal with the level 3's and then finish off the others while also conserving his stamina.

The plan was executed with the same flawless efficiency as the soldier's unspoken unison led them to a swift victory against the low-level silver wolves. Due to not having to restrain over a hundred creatures by himself, Durant was able to focus on the level 3's.

The 4 bosses pound their sharp claws at him all at once but he was not panicked. Durant just ducked under the assault while crouch walking at an imperceivable speed.

Even though the wolves had insane reaction times and instincts, they could not understand the unorthodox movement of this silver knight. It was unlike anything the battle-hardened monster had faced.

"Heh. Just as expected. Beasts will always be beasts." sneered Durant in his mind as he had gotten out of the well-maintained encirclement of boss wolves and reached the rear of one of the larger ones.

He unhesitatingly stabbed his sword up the wolf's tightened ass and pierced through many of its internal organs.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaoooooooooooooooooooooo!

The wolf let out a painful and sad cry as the glow in its eyes became deeper and it was enraged. This anger was futile as Durant twisted the sword inside the wolf's body and slashed upwards.

The wolf was sliced in half as if it were a stick of butter. The wolf fell with a thud to the ground as blood exploded in all directions. The intestines, heart, and brain all spattered onto the now red grass.

It was like a pile of mushy, white, and red matter that would make anyone who had not seen anything remotely like this, puke, The sight organs spilling out caused Durant to smile sadistically.

This maniac-like grin caused sees of fear to sprout into large trees within the wolves' hearts. when they first saw this monkey-like creature in its silver outfit, they could clearly see his intimidating aura that was visible to cultivators only.

As he had gotten closer to their brethren and them, they could feel a ghastly amount of bloodlust from this man. The only thing that beat this monkey's aura and bloodlust would be the wyvern that was kicked out with them.

They thought that if they could get the monkey to stop running around and surround him, they with the group together and take all their chances at fending him off.

They now realized they were too naive and were about to flee the scene by scattering in three different directions.

Before they could even start running their paws the other way, the wolves felt a chilling breeze brush past them. The breeze was warm and they could feel a tingle at their necks.

'Wait a minute! My neck!.' the 3 thought in unison as they looked down and realizes they had no necks. The warm breeze was the Durants sword that had beheaded them all at the same time.

The warmth was felt instead of the coldness of the blade's metal was due to the fact the sword was ablaze with a mysterious green fire.

The fire seemed to have an aura that was similar to that of a domineering wyvern but much stronger. It was almost as if it was the eternal fire of a true dragon's breath.

The wolves regretted their decision of attacking the monkey's territory. They had been blinded by the insatiable hunger caused by the side effect of being evicted from the forest. This was also the reason for their ghostly red eyes.

After they took their last breaths and their eyes had dimed to the regular color of a wolf, their expressions became relaxed. Durant could see that they had come to term switch their deaths and were glad to die in battle as it kept their honor as predators intact.

Durant's small instance of sadism was gone as he relaxed his expression back into a more calm one. He looked towards his subordinates that =had already been able to tire out many of the wolves and even managed to end a few.

He sprinted towards them in a wind like fashion as he started to clean up the remaining horde. This gross spilling of blood, organs, and brains did not take long for the talented soldiers and the overpowered Durant to complete.

Every single person confirmed the kills by making some extra stabs in the dead bodies. They had to make sure that there were no sudden surprises in their battle against the mighty wyvern.

Screeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

The wyverns screech could be heard once again but this time, there was different emotion rather than bloodlust and hunger. It was a cry of pain and desperation.

This was confirmed by the broken nose of the wyvern and the twisted expression of fear it displayed while looking at the black-clothed figure that was Daren.

Daren's entire outfit was smeared in a greenish substance as a sickly green mist was enveloping a radius of 100 yards. This was the fighting zone of the two powerhouses.

As if triggered by the latest cry of the wyvern, the green mist spontaneously combusted as a very wall of hellish, green flames to its place. These flames obscured the vision of everyone else as they were not sure if they should go and help Daren.

One thing for sure was that Daren was not losing against that wyvern or else why would it have such a look of pain and fear towards him.

How did this wall of green fire come to be?

How did Daren make such a powerful prince of the sky submit?
