A few hours later, at the hospital.
"Sir, we have looked at the site and it's surprising, there was no sign of erosion or decay. It looked more like the wolves were sliced by an extremely sharp sword. The two that were bashed looked like the were hit by a, um well, a small truck to say the least. Whatever hit them left small craters below them."
"It fits what I saw as well." "Leave the report on my desk. It also fits what he had applied for at the high school. A wind mage."
"Were there signs of earth or ice magic anywhere in the vicinity?"
"No sir, all the bodies were clean of dirt or water energy."
'That leaves only one element that it could be, to think he is not only a dark mage, but also a wind mage.'
'He is also an adept wind mage on the brisk of masters level. At the minimum, with the force that he had managed to exert."
I did actually have power at that level, but the truth of it was that my spacial affinity was at the beginner level.
To be honest, as long as my spacial affinity has enough energy, I would able to harm a master-level mage. Before his darkness affinity got an upgrade, he wouldn't be able to use the space element to slice a master class mage, but now it would be possible, just at the expense of being exposed to the world.
Back in the room, I was currently unconscious within another nightmare.
Wolves circled me, disappearing as they stepped a certain distance away from me. I felt pain shoot through me as I was attacked from behind. In just a few moments, I was on the ground, feeling my body get torn to shreds from the combined attacks of the wolves. I didn't know what I felt as the world faded, but I swore I heard A voice that made some light return.
'Tori?'
There was a girl around my age. Light seeped from her off in the distance, and as it reached me, the wounds on my body disappeared.
After the pain faded, she left, not a word was spoken.
"Wait, thank you." I muttered, trying to get a response.
She turned around, looking back at me before fading away.
"Oh I didn't know you were awake, your welcome, although it wasn't very difficult, your body had less difficulty accepting my energy. most people with wounds like yours would be in here for a few days, but you are already healthy in just a few hours."
The voice woke me from the dream immediately.
'Hours, but I just now felt the energy. I knew good dreams went by fast but that was too fast.'
The doctor then turned and left.
'I was probably just seeing her, and imagining that it was Tori in my dream instead of the doctor.'
'He must have had a light catalyst. Quite lucky for him, it will save him a fortune from hospital costs. Such caring parents.' The doctor thought as she stepped out of the room.
Light catalysts are rare artifacts that would help light mages gain power more easily. When used on regular people, they just heal faster when light magic is used. there are catalysts for every element, but here those of light seem to be more common.
Of course, I did not have one, but I had a dormant light affinity that made my body more receptive to light magic.
After the nurse left, the man who had brought me here stepped through the door.
"Hey! it's good to see that you're already well again." Said Joseph as he quietly closed the door.
"Thanks. If it weren't for you I would have been somewhere else, might have not even been alive." I said gratefully, trying to lift my own spirit and give the air of a grateful kid.
"You can say that again. You broke out of the fury pretty quickly though. Most dark mages are paranoid and can't even make sense of the words of those trying to help them." He responded. His eyes scanned over me, watching me closely.
'Maybe my act is not cutting it.' I thought as I let my expression drop a bit.
"I can thank my bad habit of rationalizing, and thinking through everything." I said with a sad smile sitting on my lips.
'It was probably, my dormant light element being there to partially counteract it as well.' I thought as I tried to understand how I stayed in control.
"Well it can't be too bad if it saved your life." Joseph countered.
'And also your strength with the wind element might have something to do with it. Wind mages usually have calm minds.' Thought Joseph
"Yea I guess your right." I agreed.
"Oh yeah, Alex. my name is Joseph. I believe we will be seeing each other a lot in the future, I oversee the high school ranking tests for mages." "Especially, since you have two elements."
"What?"
"Yes you have wind and darkness, the bodies of the beasts were shredded to pieces. The only weapon left around for you to use was the air." "Why did you never tell anyone you could have already gotten some training in advance like the other students, heck you could have even gotten the resources for being the best wind mage from scholarships."
He was only guessing that it was me. But I was getting the feeling that even if I denied his accusations, he would not believe me as there was likely no evidence.
I don't remember everything clearly, but some of the wolves' parts may be in the spacial dimension because I lost control.
"it's because my affinity is very low, I can only control the wind within five feet of me." "But I've been training since a child and my control is sharp and very powerful. I can compress the wind into razor sharp blades." I said, trying to find a sensible excuse.
"Huh, then what about the wolves that were pummeled to a pulp?" He asked with a raised brow, not expecting what I had said.
"I compacted all the air around me and used it like a mallet."
'A grand wind affinity? Wind mages born with these have to have to have specialized training in order to make progress with their affinity.' He thought as He filled in the blanks with the information he had himself.
'Not only that, but he is also a natural dual mage. Too bad, he will need the second most purest wind energy to move forward, only king class and beyond have access to that.'
Of course, with wealth, anyone could bypass those restrictions. The same could be said for power, as in this world, the two are interchangeable.
There is a list of rankings that are basic for all mages to follow within the current era.
Beginner class- This is where everyone starts and where my two current affinities lay at.
Adept class- A class where most are familiar with their affinity. It shouldn't take very long for one to reach this class.
Expert class- Here, most feel the first bit of true resistance in their training, and this may be where they decide if they will stop at the master class or not.
Master class- The class that most end up staying in for most of their lives. There is a steep wall dividing the master and noble class.
Noble class- Most end up not seeing this class of power due to the amount of resources needed to reach it.
Kings class- A class named so due to the first person to reach this class ages ago was deemed a king for rising above the rest.
Emperor class- A class named after a tyrant who had tried to take over several kingdoms in the not-so-far past.
Overlord class- There were only seven overlord classes today. They each ruled a kingdom. going back down the class system, each step of the ladder had its own importance. emperor class mages were usually brought into important lines of work closely related to the overlord or even directly working for the overlord.
And finally, Drak was in a class of his own, the Apex class. No one on earth could contest with him.
"You probably have a grand wind affinity. Not usual to be born with it, but it has happened. You're gonna have to either get into an elite college or become a king-class mage before you are able to access a wind tower capable of helping you gain strength."
"That seems like it would take forever, but all I can do is try." I said with a somber tone, as I knew nothing would come from it. At best if i did have a dormant wind affinity, I would have a better chance of sensing wind mana in these towers and a higher chance of awakening it.
"Hey don't give up, your darkness affinity will take some of the weight off your shoulders. You may not know it but your AOI has doubled since it's awakening." Joseph consoled.
'I definitely felt the effects of his power from ten feet away, not five.'
"Wait, really." I closed my eyes as I checked my area of influence, I deployed my spacial detection magic and felt everything around me, as well as someone else.
"Who's the guy outside of the room." I thought as I looked over to the door.
Joseph's eyes got wide. "Ahem, that would be your principal, when he heard about what happened he came for himself. I spoke to him about your situation and while he can't help with your wind affinity, he knows a little about the dark affinity."
'The boy wasn't lying when he said his control was sharp, I felt no wind movement and he was still able to sense the principal.'
"Oh! well, that is understandable." I said as I noticed he was defending the man who was clearly eavesdropping in on the conversation.
"Well since you already know, I'll invite him in."
At that moment, the door opened, and a man of large stature entered.
"Hello Alex, names Smith, although at the school most people call me Mr.Carter."
"Hello, Mr.Carter." I replied with a dry smile.
