Aito stood there, speechless, his mouth opening and closing soundlessly as Aera's words pierced through him like shards of glass. Tears cascaded down his cheeks, mirroring the torrent of emotions raging within him. He felt utterly powerless, a mere shell of the person he once thought he was.
In that moment, he realized the depth of the pain he had caused Aera, and the weight of his own uselessness crushed him once again. He couldn't even muster a response, knowing deep down that Aera's anger and disappointment were justified.
"But there's one thing you haven't taken yet." She said, taking a few steps back from him. "And I'm going to gladly give it to you because I have no use for it now. Maybe you'll finally be at peace knowing I do not exist anymore."
Aito was confused. "What are you saying? What do you mean?"
Aera gave him a small smile. "Goodbye, Aito."
She pulled out a sharp knife which was concealed within her sleeve and directly slit her throat in front of him.
