Chapter 1 - Meeting Tanjiro Kamado

I wasn't sure what happened, but all I knew was that I needed to trust Sensei. His long yellow hair tipped with red on the ends blew in the snowy wind as we had run.

He sent me to someone named, Sakonji Urokodaki.

"He will teach you the things I cannot!" Sensei said a bit loudly. "I may not see you for a while, so here's a parting gift!"

He had pulled out a fire flower bracelet and clipped it around my wrist. I smiled at it, laughing internally at the irony, and grinned up at him.

"Cmon, you'll come searching for me once you realize you can't live without me."

Sensei chuckled and sent me off with a hug.

"Be safe Rumi. Please." He whispered before letting me go. A quick kiss to my head and I was traveling through the mountains in my white haori with black crows on it, my matching momohiki's covered in snow as I ran.

As I traveled through the trees, I thought about my family. My family had been so happy that I had been chosen, but had been so sad to see me go.

~Two Day Ago~

"Never forget, Rumi." Mother had said, handing me her necklace. It was a beautiful magnolia flower necklace made out of crystal. "Protect those who need your protection. And never forget us."

I had stood there, tears streaming down everyone's face but mine. I had taken her necklace and put it around my neck.

"'Otōsan', " I had said.

Father had stepped forward and put an arm around Mother.

"Keep them safe." I had crouched down and kneeled in front of Mamoru. "And you 'sukoshi shisutā', behave for 'otōsan', 'kay?"

She had nodded and wiped her nose messily.

"B-b-but who's gonna b-be my 'meishu'? You're my light big sis." She asked.

I had rubbed her head and smiled.

"Think of it like this," I had said.

~Present~

"If I'm your light, then you should never stray in the dark," I whispered into the cold wind as I sat on the porch of a kind woman who offered to house me while I was in the town.

A boy about my age passed by and quite a few villagers called out to him with familiarity. He seemed young to be supporting his family already but, everyone has a story.

I sighed and bid my good-byes to the kind lady and made my way up the mountain, the sun was setting, but I hadn't tasted any danger, so all should be well.

I passed a lonely hut on the way up and passed a house on the way in the woods, and then I froze. I tasted blood, fear, and pain. I turned to see a shadow leap out of the house and sprint for the trees.

It was a demon.
