Leo watched the second film with an ecstatic expression while the others didn't pay the film too much attention. They instead watched Leo and wondered how he hadn't seen any movies before.
Eventually the credits rolled, and the lights returned to the theater. Leo sat in his seat with a content face as the others got up.
"Alright, alright, let's go eat now, it's starting to get late." Andrew said. In truth, he just wanted to leave the money vacuum that was the movie theater. He was going to choose the cheapest place in town, and they were going to like it.
"Can we just do on-" Leo was about to ask.
"No!" Andrew cut him off with a stern expression. Leo seemed disappointed as he got out of his seat and looked at the screen with a slight longing.
The four walked out of the building and Andrew looked at the clock on his phone.
"How in Blight's name is it already five in the afternoon?" Andrew groaned, his eyes quickly made their way to Leo and narrowed.
Andrew began typing into his phone's search bar and hit enter. The loading bar kept spinning, and spinning, and spinning. The group was currently standing outside the theater and waiting for Andrew to find a place to eat.
"The signal on this island is absolutely unbearable." Andrew muttered.
Finally, after eons passed, the list of places loaded, and he quickly scrolled down it. It seemed there were a total of three restaurants on this small island. The cheapest one was nearby, while the middle ground of the two was across the island. The last, and most expensive, was near the island's beach.
Meaning Andrew would steer as far away from there as possible, for as long as possible. He looked at the other three and spoke, "We're heading to…"
He looked back at his phone to read the name of the cheapest restaurant, "The Widow's Walk. It's not that far from here."
The group all nodded in agreement, and they slowly began making their way over. That was until they reached the outside of the restaurant. Leo didn't particularly care, but Faust and Luke both turned towards Andrew with piercing gazes after seeing the state of the building.
It was practically falling apart at the seams and the rain and fog had definitely done a number on the wood the building was made out of. The windows were hazy and hard to see into, a lantern also hung from the wall. While it was cool that an actual lantern that held a candle hung from the wall, what wasn't cool was the fact that it was completely rusted over.
If you tried to open it to put in a new candle, it'd probably fall apart.
"We're not going in here." Luke said.
"Well, we're not heading anywhere else. This is the only restaurant on this island." Andrew lied as naturally as he breathed. He gave a shrug like there was nothing else he could do.
"We're not going in here." Luke repeated and this time Faust sternly nodded in agreement.
"Look, despite its appearances, this place is absolutely packed! The food is probably delicious, let's just give it a chance." Andrew and his wallet pleaded.
Eventually the two gave way and they all headed inside. While the interior looked like a disaster, the interior could be described as homey. The tables were nearly all filled, and everybody seemed to be having a good time. The restaurant also doubled as a bar and handed out drinks along the counter.
"See? It's not so bad!" Andrew said as he turned around with a shit-eating grin.
Faust didn't say a word, instead he kicked Andrew in the shin. Andrew quickly grabbed in in pained and went to the ground.
Faust raised his chin to Andrew and looked down on him, "Don't think you're winning."
"Ugh…" Andrew groaned out. In actuality, the shin kick didn't hurt that much, it was when he fell that it really hurt. Leo bent down and helped Andrew up.
At the same time Faust looked across the restaurant and eventually spotted someone familiar.
"Oh! Vera and Hugo are here!" Faust began walking over to her and Hugo. The others followed him as well.
"Oh hey! Want to eat with us?" Vera instantly offered with a smile when she looked up and noticed them.
The group of four agreed and they all began seating themselves. Once they sat down, a waiter walked over after another minute and handed them some menus.
"Sorry for the wait, we're incredibly busy tonight. I'll be back in just a moment to take the order for your drinks." He also handed Vera and Hugo menus and walked away.
"You see, we just got here as well. It's a bit too expensive to go to other restaurants on the island. At least for us." Vera explained with a small, but pained smile.
Faust and Luke's heads instantly swiveled over to Andrew.
"I swallowed a bug." Andrew said quickly as he stood up and tried to go to the bathroom. Luke however reached out and grabbed his collar and brought him back to the seat.
"No other restaurants, huh?" Luke muttered in his ear. From the other side of the table Andrew also saw Faust glaring at him. For the first time, he actually felt his soul try to leave his body. He wasn't going to get out of this unscathed.
Vera laughed slightly at the sight, totally oblivious to the annoyance that Andrew would later suffer, and said, "You guys seem to be good friends."
"Yeah, sometimes!" Faust said through gritted teeth with a smile.
The waiter came back and asked for their drinks. The group quickly opened the menus and looked at them. The front page was absolutely covered in drink choices, mainly alcoholic beverages.
"Just get me some water, please." Leo said to the waiter, they nodded and looked at the others.
"I'll just have some tea, and could you get him some water." Vera said, the waiter once again nodded.
"Can I some juice?" Faust said with a smile.
"I'll have some red wine." Luke said as he handed over the menu.
"May I see some I.D?" The waiter asked, Luke started digging through his wallet and showed the waiter. The waiter nodded to Luke and looked towards Andrew who was glaring at Luke with an annoyed expression.
That was because the wine cost eighteen dollars.
"Just get me a beer to wash my sorrows away please." Andrew said meekly.
"I'll need to see your I.D. as well." Andrew showed him it and the waiter quickly went to go get their drinks.
"Wait, how old are you?" Faust ask Andrew.
"Twenty-three." He said simply, then asked Faust, "You're twenty, right?"
"Yeah, what about you?" Faust looked over at Luke.
"Twenty-one." Luke said.
The three then looked towards Leo, expecting his answer.
"Eighteen." Leo said with a shrug. Technically he was way older, but his body and mind had only grown for eighteen years so far.
"Huh?! You are not eighteen!" Luke jumped up. The others also were completely baffled.
Instead of trying to explain himself, he simply grabbed his I.D. and showed them. Leo was taken to get the I.D. when he stayed with John for around a year. Before that, he didn't have one because he never needed one.
"Nuh-uh! This is forged! It has to be!" Andrew said while looking at the I.D.
"You're really eighteen?" Faust asked, to which Leo gave a slight nod. Despite Faust's dislike of curse words, he muttered, "Holy shit. Wait! You're the youngest…" Faust's face grew mischievous.
"Yeah, that's why we're freaking out!" Luke said.
"No. You're freaking out because he's only eighteen. I'm freaking out because now I can act superior in every way, simply because I'm older!" Faust chuckled.
"Yeah… do that and see how long it lasts." Leo glared at Faust and Faust shut up exceptionally quick.
Faust coughed and looked away as if he said nothing.
"It's not so bad being the youngest, I was the youngest as well." Vera said to Leo.
"Yeah, I'm the youngest in my family as well." Leo said back to her, "It's just that if you give these numbskulls a yard, they'll take a mile." He laughed.
"You have a family?!" Luke yelled in confusion, "Why have you never told us this?"
After Leo had revealed that John was his guardian back at the academy, Luke assumed that Leo had been adopted by him at a young age. He was very wrong to say the least.
"Hey, calm down, it's not that big a deal. But yeah, four older siblings." Leo told the truth; it didn't matter much to him.
"What're they like? Brothers? Sisters?" Luke asked with an excited expression.
"I don't remember much about them, but three older brothers, and one older sister."
"I've got two older brothers and one older sister. They're a bit… ya' know." He grew quieter as he began to think about them.
"Oh yeah, we met your sister. Wait, she was talking about him, right?" Faust asked Leo.
"My sister? You met Elinor?! Why didn't you tell me?! How are you two not dead?!" Luke had a million questions running through his head.
Leo however put his hand on Luke's shoulder and said, "We can talk about it later."
Leo looked over to Vera and explained, "It's… a very personal matter."
"Oh, no, you're all perfectly fine!" Vera said with a nod.
The table got quiet, and they all began looking around, trying to ignore the awkward atmosphere. That was when Leo noticed something. The lights in the building were pretty bright, and they warm colors as well. That by itself was nothing special, but there weren't any moths near them.
It wasn't something you'd notice when looking at a light. Your mind just wouldn't think of it. The only reason why Leo noticed it was because the moths were instead fluttering around some of the patrons of the restaurant.
Just as Leo was about to take a closer look, the waiter walked over with their drinks. They placed them on the table and brought up a piece of paper and asked, "Now, what can I get you all to eat on this fine evening?"
Leo then noticed a small moth land on the waiter's head before fluttering away.
