Chapter 5 - Chapter 5

As I walk into the school with a small bag of luggage that I accumulated over my stay in the capital I look around to see a tide of students new and old, some in groups, some nervous and alone. I walk over to the registration desk and say "Knull first year". The man looks at me a bit annoyed and asks in a snarky tone "Surname?", I look slightly annoyed as he already has pissed me off saying, "I have none." he scoffs at my answer looking through the stack of papers to find my schedule. He looks through it with a surprised and anxious look and says, "here you go sir sorry if I may have offended you, your dorm room will be room 503 in the left wing." Confused by his sudden change in attitude I look at my schedule to see me in all 7 elemental classes as well as an 8th period that looks handwritten in the deans writing saying 'Mentoring with the dean report to my office every school day at 4 o'clock sharp'. Chuckling a bit at what he wrote down I make my way over to where my dorm is supposed to be.

Knocking on the door a few times and hearing no answer I unlock it and walk into the room. The first thing that catches my eye is another bag of luggage sitting on a bed in the left side of the room. Deciding to put my luggage down on the other bed I start to look around for anything else of note. The dorm room was very simple, it was a 2 person room with a small branch bathroom and kitchen in case a kid brought a servant to cook for them, as well as 2 desks in the corners of the rooms and 2 wardrobes for the students. Satisfied with what I see I walk into the small kitchen to see that it is fully outfitted with a note on the cupboard saying we can pick up ingredients at the mess hall every sunday that should last us through the week and we can ask for more during the week before classes.

Walking out of the kitchen I peek into the bathroom and see it is pretty simple aside from the fairly large bath and shower. Deciding to just wait for my roommate to introduce myself as there isn't any classes today and not much to do aside from explore, I pull out a course book and start practicing the magic inside it. As I read the first page there is a short explanation on how magic works and what we should do to strengthen ours if we didn't already know. Flipping the page I read an introduction to the spell [Fireball]. Apparently the way it works is it gathers the magical elements from the air and shapes it into a ball form then willing it into a physical construct. It goes further into depth on what you should do and how you should visualize the spell but I just skim over it thinking about how magic is mainly imaginative.

I finish reading the instructions to the spell and start chanting its incantation. 'Flamma eruperit' which is the base to all fire spells. A small ball of flames burst into life atop my palm slowly growing as I feed more magic into it. Feeling how my magic starts to surge I withdraw my mana from the ball effective extinguishing it as it dies with a few sparks. Satisfied with my work I try to recreate the effect but this time with no incantation, as the way I see it, it is only supposed to be a crutch not a boost. Willing my magic into my palm and shaping it into a spherical ball I feel the surrounding elements surge towards me a second time igniting a ball of fire on top of my palm, except this time it is at least 5 times bigger and 10 times fiercer. The surging heat starts to heat up the room at a rapid pace. Immediately I withdraw my intent from my magic and marvel at how strong a chantless spell could be.

Feeling that I have done enough magic for today I try to modify my meditation into something passive while using what I have learned today. This time instead of willing a certain object to come into existence I start to visualize my surrounding with my elemental sight. Witnessing the beautiful sight of the elements I start to assert my will over them while making my body into something of a battery that houses them at all times. Feeling my magical capacity is nowhere near its limit I start to take in the surrounding elements effective supercharging myself. I start to feel more powerful as this goes on and there is a slight pain. I realize the pain is probably from the elements that are currently unrefined inside my body and are rapidly expanding my magical pathways to allow more magic to flow through and expanding my capacity to new heights.

What used to be a capacity of a small lake could now be compared to a glorious ocean of pure mana. I start to feel myself reaching my limits and I decide that I would focus the intent of what I am doing, speaking 2 words 'Magia Surge' I feel the effect start to diminish leaving me with now massive reserves of mana and my already incredible talent became much higher. Satisfied with my new spell I decide that I would just read a book for fun and stop with the magic for today. If anybody else would hear that I decided to spend my brief period of enlightenment on reading books 'for fun' they would spit blood as it is something most can't achieve even in their entire life. However for me who knew little about the enhanced state of mind I was experiencing I just wasted it as if it was nothing. Finally after it started to get dark and finishing most of what we would go over this year, I heard the door knob start to turn as the beautiful woman from the entrance exams walked in. She looked over to me with a perplexed expression and asked me, "why are you here?" Looking at her and taking in her figure now that she was up close I realize that I was being rude as she had asked me a question and I stated matter of factly, "well this is where I am living while I am studying here, anyways nice to meet you I am knull." She looks a bit surprised to hear that I would be living with her she responds, "Nice to meet you I guess my name is Emma, no surname."

Now that introductions are over I decide that I would just get some sleep as I would have to go get ingredients to cook tomorrow, as there is no way I would eat the school food when I could cook a hundred times better. Slowly drifting off to sleep I had a dream about the forest where I trained myself and all the people I had met up till now, smiling lightly in my sleep I gave off a peaceful air that would calm anyone just from not wanting to interrupt it.
