George was very happy as to have gotten directions to his parents house.
Although it was a bit of a long walk, but George wasn't fazed by this, at least he got to leave the orphanage, with all it's taunts.
For so long he had been dreaming of this moment, where he would turn his back to the orphanage and never come back.
He set out with his belongings in a little bag, dangling beside him, he whistled as he walked, glad to be a freeman.
It has been thirty minutes since George set out and now he was in front of the house the mistress described to him.
It was a sight for sore eyes as it wasn't been taken care of. So I really don't have any relatives George asked himself, such a pity he thought.
He went in as the door was open, he was cautious as he didn't know if anyone or anything was inside, but after checking around and he confirmed there was nothing there, he relaxed and settled in.
But there was one more problem, the whole place was dusty and filled with cobwebs and animal droppings and he needed to make sure too that no creature was hiding there.
So George started looking for a broom and luckily for him he found one. He used it to clean and dust the whole house.
It was almost dark by the time he had finished sweeping and he was so exhausted and hungry, so he decided to sleep since he didn't have any food to eat.
As he lay on the bed thinking about his poor, unfair life he then remembered the parting gift his mom left for him, well he was curious as to what it was now that he was settled down, so he hurriedly opened it.
What he saw wasn't what he expected to see, it was a ring!!, he was disappointed, so this was all his mom could leave for him.
An old worthless rusty ring, maybe it wasn't that worthless, maybe he could sell it in the market for a couple of coins,he wasn't even sure he would get enough money if he sold it in the market, but he would sell it anyways and use the money to eat a nice meal tomorrow.
As he remembered that he hadn't eaten, his stomach stomach grumbled in agreement as if it knew what George was thinking and was telling George just how much they would have to eat if he sold the ring tomorrow.
But George was having second thoughts about selling the ring, there have to be a reason she left it for me right. George didn't outright want to sell the ring, he couldn't just sell the only memory he had of his mom.
Wait maybe this was their wedding ring and she wants me to remember them with it, he thought, then he smiled and said to himself "as much as i would love to keep memories of you guys mom, i would as much as well love to eat", he said getting angry.
When he looked at the ring, laying there he decided maybe he should just wear it. He picked it up and put his index finger in it and it fitted him smugly.
It was as if the ring was made for him, it was not to big nor too small, just the perfect fit. "Not bad" he said, just then started he to feel energized, no it wasn't just energy he felt strong, and the best of all he didn't feel hungry again.
George's mind was blown, he was happy, now at least he could get stronger now and earn some money, he thought. As he was still lost in thought admiring the ring's power, the ring slowly started to disappear still on his hands.
"Wait wait please don't go" he cried. "No no you can't do this i need to get stronger please and you are the only thing that can help me" but the ring wasn't even paying attention to him as it disappeared.
George was back to his previous sad state, why would his mom give him a ring that only gave him little energy and remove his hunger, he was really starting to think that maybe he was useless, as he was given a useless gift.
But wait, George flexed his body and the energy was still there, meaning it hadn't left with the ring, that was a good sign, at least if he didn't have the ring he would manage it's little gift for now.
He would use this newly acquired energy to earn real money, now he would see what those brats at the orphanage were going to say. He wanted to see the look on their faces when they realized he had gotten stronger in just one night.
Now with everything done, he decided it was high time he slept, he had a busy day ahead of him tomorrow.
As he lay down, he bought his fingers close to his face and admired it, "I just wish you could reappear ring" he said to the finger.
Immediately after he finished talking the ring reappeared. George bolted upright!! he wasn't expecting this, this was a miracle, and a very good one at that.
"Okay so why did you disappear in the first place", he asked the ring and didn't get any reply.
"Okay i guess you can't talk" but he wanted to try something, he had a theory on how the ring would work but it was risky trying it, what if it doesn't come back if it disappears this time, he didn't know what he would do.
But he had already made up his mind, he was going to try it, "okay ring" he said "please don't disappoint me this time around, disappear" he said with a shaky voice, well the ring did just what it was told.
Now George was excited,"reappear" he said excitingly, but nothing appeared , now the real panic set in, he started wondering why he'd even think of such a thing in the first place.
Now he had lost the ring again and this time it was his fault and it seems it was permanent too, he became sad again, just as he was about to lie down the ring appeared again.
George was over himself with excitement, he had lost all hope, he decided he wasn't going to tell it to disappear again.
And finally George slept, not knowing that the ring was now going on and off consistently, as if it was trying to say something..
