Chapter 14 - THE ENTRY

We started preparations for my entry in Rajesor.

"The unit 18 of sweepers is sent to governor's building, my brother was in it." Said a guy in our meeting, "He died in yesterday's attack, we can dress you up like him, you're the same height. You can easily enter on his pass."

"But how long would Vikrant be there? It's almost a suicide mission!" Naresh interrupted.

"For reaching Rajesor you need to cross Vijaydaam, it takes nearly 12 hours to get there." The guy said.

"That's great, I can pull this off!" I exclaimed.

"Okay then, for that we'll need to dress you up correctly, get you an allotment as soon as possible." Naresh spoke.

"My brother's pass was expired; they give them for one month. And on your visits inside the gates, you are given time tickets. The time tickets can be as short as 30 minutes or as long as a week. My brother usually got 36 hours tickets." The guy explained. "Getting an allotment can be easy, but we need to keep in mind, they'll interview you for revival of monthly pass. His interview is 16 August, and his next work is 20 August. He usually went inside once a week. "

"So I'll need to go in at least twice to lay down the plan." I said.

We got his brother's dress, a fake beard and now was the time for my pass revival.

I went into the booth, there was a tall man sitting, the desk only had one chair for the interviewer. I stood there and gave him my pass; he looked at it and asked, "So you are Vivek?"

"Yes sir."

"How many times have you been inside?"

The guy had already told me the questions they would ask, and I knew all the answers.

"Three years, each week." I said.

"What is the name of your brother?"

"Nirmal."

"When did you get married?"

"29th April."

"How much money do you expect from the 36 hours you spend inside?"

"3600 ghots."

"Good."

Nirmal was a good guy, he told me everything I'll need to know.

"One advantage is they never check your bags, they don't touch it as we are the untouchables here!" he said.

"Does that mean he can get anything inside?" Naresh asked.

"Probably." Nirmal replied.

It was 20 August, we were waiting in line of some 70-80 people to get the time allotment ticket. I looked towards the entry gate, they were checking the bags!

"Oh fuck!" exclaimed Naresh, "What do we do now?"

"Don't worry, before letting you into the buses they'll keep you inside the waiting area, you'll turn left inside the gates, walk 18 steps and stop there. We'll throw the second bag over the walls, they are only 5 meters." Said Nirmal.

His brother would've told him all this information. I felt bad for him.

They checked my bag, it was clean, Naresh and others were with the second bag, ready to throw it inside. There were few steps before entering a fairly large waiting ground; it had fiber walls but no roof. The area had no police, maybe because we were untouchables. I went counting 18 steps right from the beginning. I entered the hall, walked more 12 steps, sat down on the given bench, and they threw the bag inside. People in the area saw it and ignored. The police called out, "Unit 18!" me and some 10 others stood up and exited the area, there was a bus waiting for us, I hopped on, I was finally inside the gates!
