She remembers when her heart was crushed to pieces watching someone she loved making love to another woman. Roxus didn't care about how Hamlet felt seeing her at this moment. She doesn't care if Hamlet doesn't care about what she does with other men. However—
"...Lady Croix!"
Lucifer retreated, looked at Hamlet who was shouting Roxus's name and hid Roxus behind him.
"Who are you?!" asked Hamlet.
"Lord Ariaster," Roxus took Lucifer's arm and held him gently. The woman then looked up at Lucifer and stared at him deeply. "Can you wait outside?" Roxus asked. Lucifer closed his eyes for a moment.
"Okay. Call me if something happens," said the man calmly.
As soon as Lucifer left the place, Hamlet became confused. Why did he suddenly feel angry when he saw Roxus with another man? He was sure he didn't love her but seeing a woman who was still his fiancé kiss another man made him feel cheated.
"I know Lord Ariaster will understand," Roxus said with a sweet smile. "The gentleman you saw with me earlier was Master Lucius, the Honorable Knight of Croix County. He is the man who saved me 2 years ago from bandits on my way to Grandma Riria's house," Roxus said softly and looked at the back of the man with long brown hair who was standing some distance away from them.
Hamlet blinked. "But I continue to convince myself that I love you, even though I should have realized that I have fallen in love with him," said Roxus. The woman chuckled in a painful voice. "But the longer I deny my feelings, the more I feel like dying—" Roxus turned to stare at Hamlet with a sparkling aura as if she was falling in love for the first time.
"Lord Ariaster must understand, because you also feel the same way to Miss Daisy, right?" Hamlet could feel a stream of icy water covering his chest, encircling his ribs and freezing his body.
Roxus found out about his relationship with Daisy—If Roxus knew about this, it meant Count Eoin Croix knew too. Then why didn't they take any action?
"As soon as Master Luc said that he also loved me..." Roxus sighed under her breath. "I can't deny it anymore."
There was a moment of silence.
"I guess when you try so hard to deny your feelings, you will realize that those feelings are real. Today, I came to ask Lord Ariaster to talk to my father so we can cancel our engagement," the woman smiled happily. "Lord Ariaster must have planned to cancel our engagement because of Miss Daisy, right? Forgive me for making you doubt… doesn't Lord Ariaster think I still love you until now?" Roxus chuckled.
"Please don't worry. I'm glad we both have found our true love," said Roxus. Hamlet Ariaster lowered his head. His eyes stared at Roxus's white shoes with lavender accents which matched the woman's hair colour.
"Does Count Croix already know about this?" asked Hamlet.
Roxus shifted her gaze. "Father... don't know yet," Roxus replied. Hamlet stared at the woman with an expression that looked somehow pathetic. "Even I haven't told Master Luc how I feel. But seeing his attitude towards me, I know he already knows," Roxus's voice sounded sad.
"I was afraid to tell him my feelings when I found out that you were with Miss Daisy made him think I said it because I was heartbroken and desperate," Roxus replied. The woman smiled dryly at Hamlet. "Until our engagement ends, can you keep my feelings secret from everyone?"
Hamlet was confused. Why did he hesitate at a time like this? The woman he wanted to throw away now asked him to throw her away. No. The woman he wanted to throw away just threw him away.
Hamlet shouldn't have felt a stinging pain in his chest like this. He knew he would choose Daisy a hundred times over Roxus. He doesn't love Roxus. However, Roxus's words were ringing in his head, "But the longer I deny my feelings, the more I feel like I'm dying—"
Hamlet felt like he was dying. Impossible. There was no way Hamlet would love Roxus. His ideal woman is Daisy, a sweet innocent girl whom he knew in his childhood, a hardworking girl who is normal and full of affection, and a girl who is so beautiful compared to the girls he has met before.
Not Roxus, a woman who wasn't beautiful or cute, but charming, a woman who was so smart and special, and a woman who couldn't be compared to other girls. "But if Lord Ariaster doesn't want to cancel the engagement from your side, I will talk to my father and try to cancel it from our side... so, what does Lord Ariaster think?" Roxus asked.
It's useless. Even though Hamlet realized his feelings now, it was useless if Roxus no longer loved him. Everything may be too late. "No," Hamlet replied softly. The man smiled dryly at Roxus. "I'll talk to Lord Croix about our engagement. After that the Lady can discuss it herself with Lord Croix," said Hamlet.
Roxus blinked. 'Was the bait I threw not big enough?' The woman asked herself. "Thank you, Lord Ariaster. I guess... now I can feel calmer," Roxus said quietly. "What should I do next?" Roxus looked confused. "Maybe I'll start looking for a way to sincerely express my feelings to Master Luc..."
Hamlet smiled dryly. "Everything you've done for me all this time... if you do it for him... " Hamlet felt a pain in his chest as the words left his mouth.
The woman in front of the man smiled sweetly. "Right. I just have to do whatever I can to help him and make him feel comfortable like I did for you all this time," Roxus said.
Increasingly, Hamlet could not hide his dislike.
Roxus looks satisfied. "Please convey my greetings to Miss Daisy. Thank you for giving me time today, Lord Ariaster. I will resign," Roxus said softly as she bowed her head.
As soon as Roxus left, Hamlet realized that his fear had manifested itself. Roxus no longer loves him. However, it seemed, the man she loved was not significant. He was just a knight—Hamlet's bad feeling intensified when he saw Roxus and the man walking side by side away from the greenhouse.
If it's someone Roxus loves, doesn't that mean that man has a much higher value than himself?
Roxus has always been a rational woman. There was no way she would choose an ordinary man. Or, right now he was simply denying the fact that Roxus had chosen a man less worthy than him out of love? He, chose Daisy, a woman who was inferior to Roxus because he did not want to give Roxus power over his life. In the end, his love for Daisy was just a superficial feeling.
