As the sun began to rise to its highest peak, Ernacht woke up in his very wide bed. His breath was heaving hard. Flashes of memory flooded his head, memories of his previous nine lives.
"...hhh..."
He was thirsty, staggered to reach the glass of water on the side table, but accidentally dropped it on the floor. Instantly, the sound of glass breaking filled the room.
The door opened, and his three wives entered the room worriedly. Ernacht raised his hand quickly, stopping them in their tracks. "The broken glass will hurt you. Stand there," he said in a soft but absolute voice. The three women stopped in place obediently.
Ernacht got off the bed from the other side and called the maid to clean up the broken glass, then took his three wives away.
In Bedelia's sitting room, Ernacht leaned back on the sofa while drinking a glass of water. His hands were shaking.
