Kola did not know how much time had elapsed since he got in the hall. One thing he was sure of was this, there was nothing in the hall.
After what seemed like hours, Kola had managed to walk through every square inch of that place, looking for anything he could find, any way out other than the way he came from.
Despite all this effort, he was unable to turn up anything. Dejected, Kola was planning on turning back to duke it out with the monsters. Hopefully, they had forgotten about him and gone hunting elsewhere.
Just as he was about to leave, he heard strange noises coming from one corner of the gigantic hall. Curious, he walked towards where the noise was coming from.
Swish!
Suddenly, one meter tall door opened, letting out three machines. Each one of these machines stood at about seventy five centimeters tall, three fourth of a meter.
They had a wide base that was rolling on wheels, A long pole that contained two constructs on either side, and a square box at the top that was supposed to be the head.
This was not Kola's first time seeing a robot. As a seasoned adventurer, he was privy to some commodities sold on the adventurer market. He knew many corporations that would pay top dollar for one of these robots, and here was standing in front of three.
There was just one problem. The robots in front of him were very much active, and this was a significant threat.
The technology of ancient humans was leaps and bounds above that of the current generation. These robots had been built as service workers. Their work was to cook, clean and maintain the building, in short, do all the menial work that no one wanted to do.
However, it was also common knowledge that these robots were also equipped with sophisticated weapons on them. They also provided security and kept intruders away.
Unfortunately for Kola, he was that intruder. Moreover, he knew the weapons on those robots were not ordinary. He had once been fortunate to observe one of these weapons that had been reconstructed from a robot.
What he had seen had shocked him beyond words. The weapon had been shaped like a gun, so he had assumed that it would fire a lead bullet.
To his shock, the weapon had fired a bolt of energy at the target, which was a goat.
The thing that made Kola shake to the core was that the goat's flesh had melted off, leaving behind a bony carcass. Not even in his wildest dreams did he think something like that could be achieved.
Now looking at the three robots whose weapons were charging, Kola saw no point in running away. The next moment, a bolt of energy entered his body, sending him crushing to the ground. His eyes were still reluctant as his vision darkened.
"Who are you? Why have you come here?"
When Kola came to, he found himself in a weird room. The entire space was colored white. That coupled with the bright lamps made the entire room so brilliant that Kola had to squint just to keep his eyes open.
When his focus was adjusted, he saw that he did not have any of his belongings. Even his clothes had been taken while he slept. He was now wearing a robe that covered him from the shoulders to his ankles.
He was lying on a corner. At the center of the room there was an immensely beautiful woman. Truthfully, Kola had never seen such beauty in this world, it almost seemed ethereal.
"Don't make me ask again," The woman spoke once more, jolting Kola into attention. The woman did not look friendly, and Kola had a feeling that she could easily end him should he try anything.
Kola realized that he was now this woman's hostage. However, instead of feeling back, he was elated. For starters, for a man who was facing certain death a while ago to be breathing was a miracle in itself.
Kola felt that he still had a chance to get out, so he wouldn't waste it.
"I am just a lost adventurer who fell down a pit while walking through the forest. I don't know where here is, and if you just point me to the door, I will be leaving."
"How did you get here?" The woman proceeded to ask. Her tone still remained forceful, showing no signs of letting up.
Consequently, Kola proceeded to tell her of his walk through the forest and fight with the monsters.
After listening to all that, the woman went silent for a while, giving Kola time to admire her.
She had a beautiful face, but something about it seemed odd, as though she was too perfect. She also had a white robe on, similar to what Kola was wearing.
Why such a beauty would be slumming in such a ruin, he did not know. Kola wondered where he was and how many people he was up against. He could not wait to gather more information.
"Follow me," The woman said, her tone less forceful, but not at all welcoming any chitchat. She then turned around and walked to one side of the wall.
A passage revealed itself when a portion of the wall split up, a feat that shocked Kola immensely. Whatever else this woman was, she must be a witch.
Just as he was about to rise, a sharp pain stabbed him on the back of his neck. Using his hand to feel the area, he felt something hard and round, the size of a coin, under his skin.
