Chereads / My Vampire Deskmate / Chapter 5 - Detective Samantha

Chapter 5 - Detective Samantha

"So Quinn, how are you?" Samantha asked while sliding into his lunch table.

"Um, good I guess?" He replied confused.

"Good, that's good..." Samantha said before trailing off.

"..." Samantha didn't say anything more and just started searching his expression for answers.

"Why are you staring at me?" Quinn asked looking back and forth to see if she would stop, it was freaking him out.

"Aha! Leave it to me!" Samantha said while rubbing her nose proudly. This was Samantha's last words before she left laughing, with her hands on her hips.

"What was that?" Quinn was baffled by this odd behavior. He hadn't formally met Samantha, so he wouldn't know what she's like.

'Man I am like their cupid. Just so good at this. I know I'm pretty perfect you don't have to mention it.' Samantha chuckled to herself while walking down the hallway. It got her quite a bit stares, but she was stuck in her own la-la land so it didn't bother her.

"I've solved the mystery!" Samantha whispered when she sat down next to Cindy in math.

"Huh? What mystery? You wouldn't have done what I told you not to, right?" Cindy gave a glare while saying the last part.

Samantha shriveled back and meekly said, "Oh! Oh nothing I just found out the answer to the problem on the board..."

"Is that so? Why don't you come up and answer it then?"

"Eeek!" Samantha shouted in shock.

People laughed at her scream. Samantha miserably marched up to the board like a child whose parents told them no on the candy.

"Incorrect Samantha, good attempt."

Samantha walked back to table and kept her talking to a minimum. She was still called on again in the end.

'What does she mean "she solved the mystery?"' Cindy thought while leaving class.

"Wait! Wait for me!" Samantha shouted grabbing her stuff and shoving it into her backpack.

"Okay back to what I was saying earlier, I have solved the mystery!" Samantha grinned a hearty smile filled with pride and joy.

"You like Quinn! And Quinn likes you!" Samantha rubbed her nose again while keeping that proud grin plastered on her face.

"You!" Samantha was quickly and swiftly muffled by Cindy, who seemed to be developing a new mastery over this skill.

"What do you think you're doing saying it that loud! It's embarrassing..." Cindy said almost shouting the first line.

"It's true though! He wouldn't let me stare at him when he let you do it as long as you liked." Samantha shrugged.

"Wha-what! When did I stare at him!?" Cindy inquired with the tips of her ears turning red.

"Oh you know you stared at him the day before yesterday." Samantha replied with shrugging her shoulders.

"What? That was because-" Cindy stopped midsentence and tried to remember what Samantha was talking about. It was the day of operation: Annoy and Avoid.

"See? true! I mean it was pretty obvious you were staring at him, but hey that just means it was love at first sight even if you did sit on an anthill on your first meeting." Samantha mentioned in a know-it-all tone.

"Even though I may like him, don't bring up the anthill." Cindy was still upset about her skirt.

"Okay okay, but this means you have a chance you're the only one he teases too." Samantha said putting her hands up.

'...Quinn likes you!' This was one of the only thoughts in Cindy's mind, besides all the vampire stuff, while she was walking home.

'Samantha's probably not right... but... If she is... No! When has Samantha ever been right!' Cindy told herself to keep from getting overly excited.

Cindy made it home just fine and decided to apologize to her father.

"Hey dad sorry for yelling at you yesterday." Cindy said full of remorse.

"It's fine, I understand that it was difficult to take in all that new and confusing information."

"Thank you! Can you tell me how you and mom met? You never told me the story." Cindy said hugging her father.

"Oh you're right, I haven't told you. Sure I'll tell you." Cindy's father said.

They chatted with each other until dinner then they all played a board game before hitting the hay.

"Goodnight!" Cindy shouted from the top the stairs.

"Sweet dreams!" Her mother replied back.

"Love you! See you in the morning!" Her father said.

'Glad I apologized.' Cindy thought.

'Now what to do about Quinn...' Cindy thought before slipping into her pajamas. She laid down on her bed and thought about it once more... Before falling into a tranquil sleep.

The morning had come and the birds were already singing. The morning rays filled the room and made it warm. You could hear the gentle pitter-patter of raindrops slowly falling. You could see the dew on the grass and the trees dripping softy. You could see the skies, a perfect blue, with a rainbow too.

Cindy woke up and looked out her window to decide how to dress. She decided to wear her normal clothes but carry an umbrella, just in case. Cindy got into the shower and did her routine. Then she went downstairs and got breakfast. Her mother cooked crepes with a strawberry sauce to go with it. Cindy gulped down her food and got her backpack ready to go, making sure not to forget her umbrella. The rain had already stopped when Cindy started walking to school. She met up with Samantha as always and they walked to school together. The school day flew by like always, just with Quinn sitting with us at lunch. During fourth period it had started to drizzle again and it only came down harder since. Samantha headed off running the moment the school bell rang, which confused Cindy until she checked her backpack... Samantha took her umbrella! Cindy's home wasn't far from the school but it was raining cats and dogs. She sat down on a bench and hoped the rain would go away soon. Nope. Instead the rain only got harder. Soon enough someone offered to share their umbrella with the pitiful girl. But it was none other than Quinn!

"Seems like you don't have an umbrella want to share mine? It's a good thing we live next to each other." Quinn said opening his umbrella.

"Yes... Thank you." Cindy couldn't refuse as what he had said was true, plus, who doesn't want to share an umbrella with someone they like? They started walking and chatting but Cindy was thinking of how she would thank her cupid before she could focus on talking.

'Thank you goddess Samantha for bestowing upon me this opportunity.' Was Cindy's front runner.
