The dappled sun was shining above the streets of Mitoba, a rural town close to Lizan. The roads were busy yet none of the people was aware of the monsters walking among themselves under human skin. The ghouls were bad, but the Impounders were worse. To them, ghouls were more worthy of living than these human basta*ds. It was their job to keep the ghouls and humans away from intermingling. The humans must not know about the existence of the ghouls. But they weren't serious about it. In their minds, the more people that got to know about the ghoul, the more people they got to torment to fulfil their sadist desires before silencing them once and for all.
So far they have been successful in doing so. With no one trying to stop them. Apart from a few minor slip-ups here and there. But this time, the slip up wasn't a minor one. The secret of the special force was on the verge of being revealed to the outside world. It would be disastrous for the Fist if the information about their true hidden purpose was to be revealed to the world.
Miko Hirashi, an esteemed conspiracy theorist, got to know more than she should have, thanks to the stupidity of the Impounders. And now, Impounders had to take care of her. She had keen senses and was able to slip past them for so long, but the Impounders were like hell hounds. They were hot on her trail.
'I've been chased before by those stronger in numbers. I ran fast, then either hid or found refuge. It's all a person can do. I escaped every time. But not this time...' She thought while running with all her might.
Draped in an oversized coat, this dark-skinned 26-year-old, wasn't very tall, only 5'1" hence could hide easily in a variety of places. She also used this to her advantage to trick the ones chasing after her, multiple times. But it all came to a stop when she approached the local police for help.
A few hours ago, Miko found temporary refuge in a small police station. After all, even the Impounders would have to consider going against the law enforcers, right?
It turned out she was wrong. The moment Impounders showed up at the police station... it was pandemonium. In the moments that followed, she became the reason over a dozen families lost their loved ones. She could only see blood and entrails scattered all over the floor. She was also covered in them while shaking from fear. It was a miracle she didn't lose her mind... but when she looked at the Impounders playing with the dead, her fear got replaced by disgust.
Those sick basta*ds didn't have a shred of remorse on their faces. If anything, they were enjoying killing and defiling the fallen by performing acts that she never thought someone having a sane mind could do. One of them even went as far as consuming the flesh of the dead. If she hadn't discovered their secret, she would've been disgusted and horrified at the same time. But their plans regarding their country and the world were far worse than what she was witnessing.
Somehow, through fate's hands, she managed to slip by again. She ran with all her strength to get on the streets only to find that everyone was searching for the psycho killer who not only killed twelve officers but also defiled their bodies beyond recognition. The only thing was... she was being framed as the psycho killer. Only then did she realise that she didn't get away from the Impounders, but she was let go so that they could continue playing their game of tag.
The special force had her surrounded. Their influence over society was impeccable. This was also a reason why she had to reveal the truth to the world. Their influence coupled with their sickening plans would destroy the world if they weren't stopped.
But she couldn't ask for help from anyone. The entire town had turned against her. Seeing no other way, she abandoned the streets and headed towards the alleys. Her red ponytail rose behind her as she ran. Her steps pounding in time with her heartbeat. She didn't know she could run as fast as she was right now. Her feet slapped the concrete floor sending her jetting past the various figures that blurred in her speed.
For a moment she thought she could get away from them. But soon the adrenaline wore off and her lungs began screaming for her to stop. Her legs were about to give out, she was at her limit. But it was only the beginning of her problems as she saw a patrol car racing towards her.
The car quickly was closing in on her. Seeing no other way Miko, stopped running forwards and ran back. She quickly passed the car to a nearby building, banging on the doors for someone to let her in. The world had to know about the disturbing secret she had uncovered while investigating the special force. She can't afford to die before that. Sadly, her nightmare would come true sooner than she had anticipated.
With a loud screech, the car stopped next to her in the shady alley. Soon an Impounder clad in shiny armour got out of the car. He wasn't alone though, there were two other people as well. Both of them were draped in a white robe, brandishing the special force logo on their chest. Impounders had finally caught up to her.
Without a warning, the blonde guy wearing the armour launched himself towards her. Miko raised her hands over her head in fear, but nothing happened. She slowly opened her eyes, and saw the armoured guy next to her feet, licking the dirty floor. His two subordinates were doing the same.
Confusion shrouded her mind like wintry fog. But a confused mind could also get hyperactive. And this was happening in her case. While trying to figure out what had happened there, she subconsciously took a step back only to bump into the man who was standing behind her like a shadow.
She turned around to see a man of the most bizarre appearance. Although the man was covering his face with an oversized hoodie, since he was much taller than herself about 7 feet, she got a direct view of his mangled face. The right side of his face was completely deformed and had three claw marks that went from his right temple to well below his neck.
His right eye was also completely shut, Miko assumed it was all thanks to the wound the man would've received as the claw marks overlapped his eyelids. The left side of his face, however, made her heart flutter inside her ribcage.
"You're safe now, Ms Hirashi." The man spoke in his handsomely hoarse voice, "If you want to live, I suggest that you come with me."
