Chapter 1 - White Fury

Alpha unit 3

Sector 278

Training day 10/48

1300 hours

I ached as I looked at my small wound. Just a bruise. I was relieved, but once again, I was knocked against the wall, this time, though, I had the wind knocked out of me. The audience was satisfied by Daniel's force. My first day at the academy and I already got into a fight with the toughest kid in the school. I vividly dodged every blow Daniel took at me. I could tell he was enraged. The elite academy finally accepted the name "Michael J. Dudley" as an acceptance to skilled and elite training. Fighting at the academy could get you expelled. A fist flew right past my face as if in slow motion. I was glad I dodged the blow, but what came next almost knocked me out. I turned in time to see a fist fly into my nose. I stumbled back, surprised by the force that came. "Enough," called a harsh tone. Anyone could recognize that voice. It was Commander Plough, general of both Alpha units 1 and 2. I instantly got to my feet. "Yes, sir," Daniel saluted.

"What are you two doing? You both know fighting is illegal here at Unit 3."

"Sorry, sir. This puny pile of bones insulted me," Daniel replied to Commander Plough's question. We both knew that wasn't true, but if I told the truth, I'd probably be 6 feet under. "You two are going straight to my office." When Commander Plough tells you to do something, you do it.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I sit here patiently waiting for me and Daniel to get our turn. The office looks the same. Nice polished tile floors. A strong, fiberglass roof to have a spectacular view of a space nebula. An old lady sitting at a computer. Just boring stuff. The door opens and a kid walks out with normal clothes. That means he's been expelled. Tears dripped down his face. Commander Plough gestures for us to come in. I look over to see Daniel completely terrified and clinging to his seat. "So, which one of you would like to tell me what happened?", asked Commander Plough. I was the first to respond. "Sir, I know you know that I am a new member of the academy. I was getting my lunch when Daniel-" I looked over to see his face red as a lobster, giving me a face that said, You wanna be a squished, Chinese baby man? I wouldn't dare. "-took my tray and I thought that he was messing with me, but was actually trying to help get my food for me. My first reaction was to hit him and that's how the fight started." He looked relieved. I knew this wasn't true because he actually shoved me into the cafeteria lady. Everyone started laughing and when I got up, he shoved me again. That's how the fight happened, but it wasn't really much of a fight because I wasn't punching. "Well, I guess you Daniel are free," Commander Plough told Daniel. I got up, but Commander Plough gestured for me to stay. "You, on the other hand Michael, will stay. You have violated the rules of section 3492, so in conclusion, leads to a 30-minute penalty." In other words, it means I have detention. This is going to be a great year.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I lie here, thinking of mom and dad back on Earth. My roommate, Avery, sits asleep on her bed. Right now it's 2300 hours. Then I hear a voice in my head. I quietly get out of my bed so I don't wake Avery up and head for the door. The voice got louder. I turned to my left and tiptoed down a corridor. It was dark and creepy, but I kept following the voice. Then, I saw something I've never seen here in my few months at the academy. It was a door. A wooden door. I looked over at the busted handle and was going to open the door, but before I could touch the doorknob, it opened by itself. I took a peek inside. The voice was now booming. Go to the chest, a voice commanded. At first, I thought it was Commander Plough, but when I turned around, the corridor was empty. I realized it was the mysterious voice. I obeyed it's command and went to the chest. I opened the molded wood lid of the chest, but nothing was inside. Then, I saw that there was something in it. The compartment opened, and out popped a ring. It had many designs embedded along its structure.

I slipped the ring on my finger, and instantly, a beautiful white and silver blade appeared in my hand, but it was not just the sword that appeared. A suit of white and black armor was now tightened on me. My hair was now painted snow-white and close-cropped messily. I was destined for greatness.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As my new energetic boots clicked against the nice tile floor, the academy rumbled tremendously. The sirens bellowed and screeched loudly, and I knew we were under attack. The snow-white bandana, now covering my face, hid my disguise so that I wouldn't get in trouble for snooping around in the academy. Screams and shouts started to fill up the halls. I ran to my room to see if everything was okay. The room was empty. Avery was no longer there. You must get these people out of here! If you don't, the entire spaceship will explode with you and these people on it, yelled the voice. "Who said that?", I asked. I am the white warrior, protector of sky and space. My true name is Connor. I have chosen you to be part of the next generation of a group of galactic heroes, Connor said. Focus on your mission, you need to help these people out, Connor repeated. I turned and sprinted to the direction of where the disaster was happening. "Help! Help! Can someone help me? I'm stuck under here," cried Daniel. I picked up the cartilage and gave him a hand, only to find it was a trap. I was knocked down and thrown against the wall. "Pathetic," rasped a voice. "I am Black Bullet, my master's second in command. I am here to destroy this ship, along with you on it White Warrior," said Black Bullet. I wielded my sword and knocked him by surprise. He stumbled, but regained his balance, and returned the blow by punching me in the guts. I almost got the wind knocked out of me and stumbled back. "You are no warrior. You are just a little boy who's lost and afraid," retorted Black Bullet. I replied back, "I may be a kid, but I am no coward."

"Is that so? Well then prove it by facing me."

"It's not me you should be facing, it's that bomb you need to attack. Every person that was on this ship was transported to a safe place. I may end, and so will you, but the battle is far from over. White Fury, out." His face went pale when he saw the bomb in the back behind me. He tried to go for the bomb, but it was too late. The timer beeped, and we were both out of it.

And within that moment, everything was quiet and still. For the first time, I felt pride in my heart. Everything was now gone, and blown to pieces.
