Chapter 5 - File 5: Charging His Phone

Haruto was in his room prepping for his trip into town to do some more investigating. He was talking with Aki and asking her questions when suddenly Zoe and Elaire entered the room.

"Um, yes?"

"Are you going somewhere?"

"Yeah, I'm going into the town to investigate some more. Only so much you can do while being in walls."

"In that case can you wait a day?"

"Why's that?"

"You'd need to disguise your self, you could cause quite an uproar so we'll prepare a disguise for tomorrow."

"Oh…Um, okay then. I can wait a day."

"Thank you for your understanding."

They left the room and now it was just him and Aki. He continued to get ready for tomorrow and when he finished packing he took out his phone to see how much percent was left.

"13 percent left…That sucks. I wonder if there's a way to charge it…Hey Aki?"

"Yes?"

"Is there magic here?"

"Huh?"

"Like can people use magic here?"

"I know some can, why do you want to know?"

"Maybe I can charge my phone. I'll be back!"

"I-I'll go with you!"

They left the room and asked around for people who could use electric magic. After awhile they found out that Hitomi had a very weak control over magic but could use electric magic. He went to her room and knocked on the door soon after she appeared.

"What do you want?"

"I was wondering if you'd be willing to help me with someth-"

"No."

"I haven't even said what I need he-"

"I don't like you, so no."

Aki butted into the conversation.

"Um, I would like it if you were to help him. He's not a bad guy in the slightest so I hope you can eventually get along…"

She was shying away from saying anything else and eventually backed away.

"Listen I feel the same, I want to get along with you so if you could please help me out! It's something only you can do!"

"Haaah, I'm helping you because Aki asked me to, I don't plan on ever getting along with you."

"I hope that one day changes!"

They walked into her room and it was even bigger then his bedroom. This room was about 5 times the size of his college dorm. They set up a table where he placed down his phone that had his charger plugged into it also and he held the usb end towards Hitomi.

"So before we do this, how much control do you have over your electric magic?"

"…Not much."

"Do you think you can control the voltage at least?"

"Maybe."

"Well I guess if this messes up I can always buy a new phone when I get out of here."

She held her finger up to the usb and shot a bolt out of her finger. The screen to his phone turned off and he just stared at his now blank phone.

"…That's not a good sign…"

"Are you saying my magic didn't work for you?"

"No need to be annoyed, it's not like there's an adapter around here and like I said, I can always buy a new o-"

The screen to his phone turned on again to reveal that it was only restarting. After waiting for it to fully turn on his percentage showed that it was full.

"I guess it worked after all…That's a surprise."

"So it worked?"

"Yeah, my phone's charged and that means it worked."

"Yay! I did something right!"

Hitomi was jumping around at her success of charging Haruto's phone and Aki was applauding in the background.

"So maybe you have more control then you think you do."

"Maybe I do…! Alright, off to experiment!"

She ran out of the room and disappeared from sight. Haruto and Aki put the table away and walked back to their room.

"So is there a reason she was that excited?"

"I don't know if she'd want me talking about so please don't tell her!"

"Okay, I won't tell her…!"

"She has trouble doing a lot of things people would call normal, or easy to do. She feels inferior to almost everyone around her and when we met we both knew we were at least some type of failure. We became friends thanks to that…So we're both failures at doing things that can be considered basic, even if they are slightly different reasons."

"So that's why…I guess I'm also inferior because I have trouble remembering things, thanks to that I ended up here."

"Really?"

"Yeah, apparently the way they keep people out is by rewinding their memories in a way so they would always walk out of the forest from where they entered. I can't remember and because of that whatever system this place uses had no effect on me."

"So that's why you're the first human to get here…Then again maybe I managed to get in here somehow, I am a human ghost after all. I might have died here somehow…I wonder if my body is still around…"

"I don't know, maybe it's somewhere…"

They continued talking about miscellaneous things until they reached their room where he let Aki play games on his phone.
