Chapter 143 - A Tiny Shadow

Aaron walked away, somewhat disappointed. He was expecting some form of resistance or strength, but all he got was a powerless man of flames trying to act like a god. Pathetic. "You sicken me," Aaron commented, pointing such an insult at Blair's currently dead body. "You didn't even try to land a good hit on me. That's all I was looking for, and you couldn't even give me that. Disappointing." Monument heard Aaron mutter as he looked back at Blair's dead body. A small shadow had risen from it. The shadow appeared to be taking notes from the situation as if it was trying to learn. Impressive.

Aaron noticed the small shadow taking note of what appeared to be a notepad. "So, you know what a notepad is...they have those in this world too, huh?" Aaron realised as the shadow looked up at him with a look of confusion on its face. It was curious as to what Aaron meant by "this world too". It could understand Aaron, but the shadow couldn't speak.

"Little shadow, I believe you are the temporary form of Blair. The human part, if you will. You have placed your human self in your shadow so that you could never be forced out by the monster, right?" Aaron asked, placing his hand down onto the ground for the tiny shadow to walk up. The shadow jumped up, just barely landing on his index finger with no help from Aaron. Aaron lifted him up slowly as the shadow nodded to his original question. Aaron smiled as he was proven right.

"So, this is you. A person who takes notes. Quite the interesting way you've been represented by the monster." Aaron commented as the shadow began to write something down in large letters so he could read. It was a white pencil on a shadowy notepad, just so that he could see it.

I know. I probably shouldn't have let my parents break my seal, right?| The note read.

"Yeah, it probably wasn't the best idea, letting yourself be pushed that far beyond what you were meant to go," Aaron admitted. "If you hadn't let your seal break, you wouldn't be reduced to this pitiful state. Although, it's good that your shadow has its own consciousness. It means that there wouldn't be a struggle for power with the monster inside you."

Well, at least I have this form to my name. I have had some time to myself, and I used that time to think over my actions. I need to get that monster under control, but I can't. Becoming my own shadow was my last-ditch attempt at keeping my humanity, and it worked. I can now speak to you with all of my human memories and instincts, just at the cost of needing to die first. I lost my name, my identity, and even my humanity, but for what?| The sheet now read. Blair must have regretted his decision. |I can't even remember my own name. How sad is that?|

"You know, I can kind of relate to your situation," Aaron responded, shocking the shadow of a human. "I once lost all shreds of humanity I had left. Not here, but in another place. People died because of me, and I can't help but think that I was the bad guy there. I was, and I know it as fact. I killed millions of people, although it isn't something that you would find in the history of this world."

Wait a second. I've heard about people like you. Popular novels or books have this kind of trope. You've come from another world, haven't you?| The shadowy sheet now read, the shadowy Blair writing at inhuman speeds. Well, he wasn't a human in the first place, so it was understandable.

"Heh. You caught on quick. The first person to genuinely find out how I got here was a shadowy lingerer of death. Quite intriguing, but being anonymous was fun while it lasted." Aaron sighed, revealing himself as who he was. "Yes, I've come from another world. Multiple, in fact. One of those worlds was where I truly lost any humanity I had left. It wasn't the best of planets to see me on if we're being serious. I caused that version of Earth, if you could call it that, to blow up." Aaron admitted as he looked at the surprise on the tiny shadow's face.

Wow. You honestly don't seem like the kind of person who would let himself fall so low. Well, that's only my take from an outward perspective. I know absolutely nothing about you or your past, so I have no judgement calls to be making on this.| The sheet read as Aaron smiled, his face that of a person who's reminiscing about their past.

"I did some messed up shit. Monument had the chance to check out my memories by himself, but I really did some messed up stuff. I made a child watch his own parents die, and I then forced him to kill his own dead parents once again. I made my own mother on that planet kill her dead, deformed husband, and I threw people off of a platform thousands of metres in the air. All for self-enjoyment. I still get small amounts of pleasure from inflicting pain on people, but not nearly as much as before." Aaron explained as the left side of his body slowly transfigured into a black, shapeless blob.

What the hell are you doing?!| The tiny shadow yelled out via his little notebook as Aaron smiled. "An ability I got directly after blowing up the planet I had killed billions on. It's a little memory of how my Corrupted self looked. It is an ability that lets me eat anything, just like how the lives of the innocent people on the planet were forcefully taken by me." Aaron explained. "Everyone has their secrets, Blair. Mine are just a little bit more disturbing than other's if you understand what I mean."
