Chapter 36— New problem
"Yeah, it's perfect!"
I take a guts pose when I see the completed inn and my newly built hideout. (TLN: Guts Pose)
The reproduction of the inn was perfect.
No matter how you look at it, it was just like the inn where we stayed in the city.
Let's go inside.
Passing through the entrance and going to the back of the reception counter, there is a small dining room space, and behind that there is a kitchen and living space.
I return to the entrance and climb the stairs.
The stairs are well-built and the building will probably not collapse suddenly.
The wall of the old hideout I made before was unusually thick because of the danger of it collapsing.
I was worried that if I made it as an amateur architect, it would be vulnerable to earthquakes without any resistance.
I think this new building was originally built by a professional of this world, so at least it's a lot better than when I made one.
"But it's a terrible place where I built this inn ..."
However, although the new construction was completed, it was a little different from the image in my head.
I was aiming to recreate the inn.
It should have been possible in terms of architecture alone.
However, it must be said that it is incomplete when considered as a residence.
Because there is no such thing as a door.
If the entrance is left open, there is no door in the partition of each room.
There are no tables or shelves in the dining room or kitchen.
Although the building was reproduced from the soil, nothing was attached to the building.
Well, can't it be helped?
Because I used magic that way.
Luxury would be nice.
Although there was a hypothesis and a feeling, it was previously unthinkable that a building of this size could be magically built at once.
I should think of it as a sign of my growth.
"There seems to be something I need other than the doors."
There are other points of concern.
After all, there is a surrounding wall on other buildings.
The inn in the city was built in close contact with other buildings because it was the fate of a building in the walled city.
In other words, there was another building next to the real inn, so the walls of the inn were like a noppera-bō and didn't need a door. (TLN: Noppera-bō are Japanese yōkai--- ghosts ---who have no faces, but look human otherwise.)
If you're in the city, you won't be bothered that you can't see the side walls because there are other buildings.
However, the land I cultivated is large and there are no buildings next to it.
Seen from the side, my older brother, who works part-time, might tell me what was wrong.
"Should I expand the building a little?"
With that in mind, I cast a new spell.
A brick wall will be built on the side to match the height of the newly created replica of the inn, and it will be surrounded all around.
I'm going to make this a bedroom for the Valkyries, which will continue to increase.
Then, I make a wall on the other side in the same way and surround it.
Let's make this a warehouse where the harvest is stored.
However, although I was able to make a wall and surround the building, I had to make the roof part by hand.
It seems that the building itself cannot be created at once with only the image in your brain.
It took time to pile up the bricks. (TLN: I'll explain everything in the summary.)
* * *
"Hey, Ars. Is everything okay?"
"What's wrong, dad?"
"There are lumberjacks. They are angry."
It was when I came home after having a break in the new construction.
My father said that and talked to me.
By the way, I'm thinking of moving my base of operations to the settlement.
However, I don't have any furniture or tools, so I'm still going home and eating my mother's home cooking.
When I was looking forward to dinner as usual, my father brought up a story of trouble.
Apparently, the people in the village who lived as lumberjacks were dissatisfied.
"What happened?"
"They're complaining about you deforesting trees in the forest."
I see.
As I listened to the story, I realized what the lumberjacks wanted to say.
Originally, this village was surrounded by a wooden fence, and a forest spread outside.
There were also professionals who cut trees here.
However, recently there has been a change in the forest situation.
That is my existence.
Usually, the work of cutting a tree is very difficult.
The task of using an ax and felling a tree is difficult.
Moving the cut tree is also hard work.
By the way, in the logging scenes I saw on TV, I think there was a way to transport the cut trees by dropping them into a flowing river and receiving them downstream.
But, since this area is basically flat, the lumberjacks will have to move the felled trees by dragging them.
I have survived such hard labor with the presence of magic and causative beasts.
That would be unforgivable for the lumberjacks.
Above all, it is a problem that is directly linked to their earnings by me being involved in their work.
They can't help but feel like complaining.
What should I do....
If I counter it with theoretical armament, I can say that the land is mine, and that it is my freedom to deal with the trees however I want if they are in my land.
However, if I do that, it seems like a dispute with the lumberjacks may occur.
I was immediately troubled by the land problem.
TLN: Summary:
The first part, the one involving the building, basically just means that the original inn was built against the wall surrounding the city, and 2 other walls were being conjoined with 2 other buildings neighboring the inn in the city. When reconstructed, the 2 walls that were originally conjoined to the two other buildings in the city could not be replicated. That meant that there were 2 walls that never appeared in the reconstructed building. That is why Ars had to make a wall on both sides of the new inn to cover up for that.
What I got from that was: The new walls are shaped so that they are curved. There are two of them. That would mean that there is a hollow space between the walls and the inn they are connected to. As Ars said, one will be used as a living space for the Valkyries, and the other one will be where he stores the crops. The next part, you already know.
