Chapter 14 - Sermon

"What were you thinking about !? I can't believe you spent all your money."

I am being preached by my mother right now.

My mother is still young and beautiful, but when she got angry, she was pretty scary.

This time, it seems to be a special anger.

"No, but if I can successfully hatch the egg of this Familiar, I will get more money than the purchase price." (TLN: I have changed "Causative Beast" to Familiar.)

"What are you thinking such stupid thoughts about? It doesn't work that easily. If so, everyone would already be rich. Hmm ... "I want to save money for the future". You were allowed to buy and sell things because you said that ... it seems that no matter what, a man will spend all his money right away. "

"It's alright. And since it's the money I earned myself, I should be able to use it as I like."

"What are you saying? The money you spend was also from the sales of sandals made by everyone. You don't know that it's not your own money. I've decided. You are forbidden from buying things."

"No! I'm sorry! Forgive me!!"

"No. Reflect on it!"

I kept apologizing by rubbing my head against the ground, but my mother's anger did not subside.

It's hard to argue because what she's saying is too correct.

Even so, I think the sales profit of sandals is like a sparrow's tears. (TLN: Meaning: very small quantity.)

Most of the cost of the Familiar Egg is derived from my bricks that I create and sell.

However, I should have thought a little more and then acted.

Well, although a purchase ban has been issued, there is something I can do.

Anyways, I'm the one who makes the bricks, and I'm the one who sells them to the peddlers.

Let's cheat the system a little and make a loop hole.

Rather, the problem is the egg.

It is said that a Familiar Egg is a gambling method that is well known even in rural areas like this.

Certainly, as Mother says, if a useful Familiar is able to be born so easily, everyone must be able to do it.

In fact, most people try to hatch an egg and fail.

In the worst case, it could be a scam which is hard to differentiate from the real because the real thing often fails.

In any case, it is said that some Familiars are even bought as cheaply as animals because of their uselessness.

Even so, in rare cases, after experiencing many failures, some succeed, and those people dream of making a fortune so they continue to pour money into their eggs.

A few people tell those around them to be careful of Familiar Eggs and their risky gamble on whether it is profitable or not.

Peddler, I didn't hear that the success rate is so low, I complain in my heart.

However, there is no helping what I have already bought.

At the very least, you have to succeed in hatching, Familiar ...

If possible, I want to have a Familiar that is as useful as possible.

I wrapped the egg in my hand as I prayed that it could compensate for my stigma with its usefulness.

* * *

The egg of the Familiar purchased from the peddler was about the size of an ordinary chicken egg which would be sold at a supermarket.

However, can it be said that the difference is that the surface has a pattern; like a camouflage pattern?

Basically, it's best to keep the egg somewhere that it won't break and keep it as close to me as possible.

The reason for keeping it close to me is that the egg absorbs the magical power of the owner and grows.

Apparently, there are individual differences in magical power, and it seems that the same egg will be born in a completely different form when it hatches, depending on the magical power it takes in during its incubation period.

By the way, it seems that it is possible to hatch one egg with the magical power of multiple people.

However, in that case, there is a drawback which is that the Familiar won't keep the same appearance.

For the time being, let's make something so that it is safe to carry the egg around with me.

With that in mind, I pick up the stalks of Hatsuka, which are piled up for sandals, and knit them.

I made something like a slightly thicker-than-usual net, and after I wrapped it around the top, I made something that would become a net for the egg.

Now, I can carry it with me by tying the upper strap to my waist.

I just have to be careful not to crush it with my butt.

"Even so, the problem is the magical power. It seems that the egg will suck it up without permission, but can I inject magic into it by myself?"

With that in mind, I focused my magical power on my eyes.

I look at the egg in that state.

The small camouflage-colored egg seems to have little magic in itself, yet.

However, the surface of the egg has a faint blue haze.

Apparently, it's likely that it's absorbing magical power from its surroundings.

"[Magic Injection]."

However, it sucks too little.

So I activated the magic.

[Magic Injection] is a magic that I create to send magical power to the logs I use when cultivating magic mushrooms.

If I want it to absorb magical power and grow, I may be able to send it into the item on my own wishes.

It was an action that I thought about.

My magical power moves through the palm of my hand to the egg.

Apparently, it was able to absorb all the magical power I sent.

The egg itself was changing to emit a stronger blue haze than before.

I don't know how much magical power is the correct amount needed for it to grow in the best way.

After that, I was injecting magical power while observing the state of the egg every day.
