Ayesha Point of View
"Nice meeting you, Ayesha," Gia greeted me with a wide smile and I greeted her back though my reaction was still evident in me wondering what she's doing here in school.
Vener was also shocked like me. The side of his lip rose up and instantly his expression became dark. Some of the students passing by turned their heads at her because of his get-up, very revealing. She looks like had an appointment in a bar, a typical party girl but I can't deny that she looked stunning and stood out from the crowd. I just don't know how she managed to enter when the security guard was very strict.
"Ven," she smoothly called out. Maybe some might take it as a normal way of calling someone but for me, I might want to puke.
A question popped up in my mind, 'How will you react if the person who shows up to you and that person made you dislike her when the time you first met?'
I just don't know. I wished she won't show up but what a bad day that my wish doesn't come true. I instantly dislike her. Of course, I smiled at her but deep inside, I'm shivering.
According to some articles I read, our first impressions are formed by the way a few distinct sections of our brain absorb information, or by the way someone looks, which provokes our brain to make snap decisions. Essentially, our brain raises red signals — and green flags when we like the individual — relying on aforementioned acquaintances and what society has taught us about who is "good" and "bad." But my instinct doesn't change now that I saw her again.
"What are you doing here?" Vener asked. His expression changed.
"What might be the reason?" Gia answered sweetly but I found it so flirty. "Well, of course, to visit you."
Vener didn't react immediately but enough to soften his manner.
I rolled my eyes in annoyance. I heave sighed and excuse myself because I still have the class to attend but before I stepped a single step, I heard her uttering words. Shocked and too much annoyance was caught a glimpse of in my expression.
"Really?" I immediately said in disbelief. Smirked escaped from her lips and Vener cleared his throat.
"Is in the part where I confessed that Ven was my ex-boyfriend?" she answered confidently and I was left speechless.
No wonder why Vener had a unique type of woman. I'm shocked he liked Gia. Why Gia, of all the women? Vener didn't notice her because she didn't have any distinguishing features but it's the other way around.
I chuckled bitterly upon realizing that in Vener's eyes, Gia and I were in the same. "Okay."
Before I turned around, I took one glance at Vener and his facial expression was still the same. It means that they have something in the past. Not saying anything means Gia was telling the truth.
There's no need to get enraged. There's no need to be unhappy. It wasn't enough for me to feel animosity or hatred because he said they were just friends and their families were close. It would change everything if he didn't claim they had a past because I had no right to meddle at first. Just because that person loves you doesn't mean that he has to say everything if in the first place I took away my right to know everything.
Yeah, because that should be.
After that day I could hardly sleep thinking about what had happened and until now I still can't believe what I found out and that was a reason to wake me up at noon the next day. It's good that it was Saturday and no school, both in my work and graduate school.
I want to do my research paper but when I was at it, I couldn't concentrate. I was spacing out.
"Have mercy. I need to finish this or else I will be failed," I pleaded but my mind was not functioning.
"Ayesha, whatever you do, the paper in front of you will remain blank. You can't type anything on your laptop keyboard," Ron commented as she was busy playing on her phone. "Physically present but mentally absent."
I closed my laptop after realizing that I need refreshment.
I decided to quickly fix myself, get my bag and go to my favourite coffee shop to buy my usual drink. I, even, offered Ron to come with me but she refused.
"I was not in the mood to go out," Ron plainly said and go back again to her phone.
When I got there, I ordered my usual drink and stay for a while to read novels on my phone but no matter what I did, I can't understand the flow of the story so, in the end, I gave up.
I looked outside of the coffee shop and many people passes by wearing a happy smile or it seems they are doing fine. Mostly are couples walking while holding hands.
I sighed and reached into my bag to bring out my laptop to open it. It took a lot of minutes for me to open the document regarding my research paper. I was staring intently at the keyboard of my laptop when a familiar voice called out my name. Even if I won't lift my head to see him, I already knew him.
He sat on the vacant chair in front of me and put the mini cake beside my laptop. "It was a carrot cake to ease your stress."
This time, I peeked a glance at him and then, shifted to the cake without uttering a single word. Vener smiled at me and tempted me to eat the cake so I have no choice but to take a small bite.
"Thanks," I sincerely said as I continued to eat. Their carrot cake in this shop was the best of all the carrot cake I tasted. While enjoying my time eating the cake, in a swift moved and without my consent, Vener place his phone on the top of the table and meddle on my research paper. "Hey, why did you do that?"
"Let me help you," he said but it's too late for asking permission.
I can't even do anything when he moved the chair next to me giving enough space between us and he started to do my paper. I was shocked at how fast his brain works in accomplishing my paper. He helped me do the introduction. We quickly finished it. I just can't believe that when I was working alone I didn't even have a sensible paragraph and couldn't reach the middle. Then, we proceed to the review of related literature and studies. I was amazed at how smart he is. Yes, I already figured it out but every single aspect of him surprised me a lot.
I suddenly seemed to forget why I was stuck here and realized why I couldn't concentrate. I smiled secretly at how foolish I am.
But it suddenly faded when his phone vibrated and I saw someone's calling. I didn't mind it first and Vener, as well but upon reading the name, mixed emotions arose without minding if my picture was still his phone lock wallpaper.
My hand began to tremble, and I began to breathe rapidly. I suddenly feel disoriented, but neither I nor my surroundings appear to be moving. I have the sensation of passing out, yet I do not lose consciousness.
"Are you okay?" he asked me looking so worried. When I got back to myself, I slowly nodded but not enough to convince him so he checked me out.
"I'm fine. Maybe, my body contains too much caffeine and glucose," I said that made him sighed feeling sorry for giving me sweet food. Again, his phone vibrated for another call but he just tap the reject button. He stood up and went to the counter and returned holding a glass of water.
"Your phone," I informed him. It keeps on vibrating but he's not picking up his phone.
"Don't mind it."
"Why?" I unawares questioned.
He stared into my eyes for a long time, trying to find consolation to let out what was on his mind. "You are my priority," he whispered.
