Ayesha Point of View
When I was still in high school, I didn't know what I want. I just want to study and graduate. I didn't know that my go with the flow vision in life made me pursue a profession I didn't expect.
When I was still studying, the only I know that education was a was to commit to our life goals and to attain our aspirations. That is why schools are so highly regarded. Because school is like a child's second home, where everyone can shape and develop skills and talents. It's also where I came to realize the greatest ambitions making come true and become what I want to be eventually.
And now, I'm in a teaching profession. I became part of every student's journey. Teaching may be a marathon of challenges—coping with huge classes, heavy paperwork, overwhelming bureaucracy, uninterested kids, and inadequate pay—despite the fact that some teachers make it look easy.
Above all, every teacher's wish like me was to see their students smiling and enjoying their high school life. It came to be undesirable feeling because they enjoy being around them and seeing them open up and evolve into more capable and competent.
On the first day was the field demonstration which is the highlight of the event. Most parents and visitors are gladly attended for them to witness their children or friends performed with the rest of their schoolmates and classmates.
It was performed on an open field in our school to the sound of drums, up tempo music and clapping. The demonstration was followed by the drum and lyre band. Students will dress and perform in accordance with the theme. For the theme was all about unity.
"I didn't know that Ma'am Marga was so talented when it comes to field demonstration," Sir Jeffy commented sounded so sincere. We are now seating on the benches where we can look clearly the performance of our students.
"Of course, I'm a MAPEH major. What do you expect?" Marga said proudly and suddenly laughed at her remarked to herself. I looked at her and I can say that she deserved to receive compliment for a job well done. I also complimented her.
In the afternoon and the next day was sports competition and festive mode of games followed by a academics competition such as debate, journal writing, poster making and many more in which HUMSS strand stand out.
It was also not missing on the part of food and retail booths for ABM and TVL strand. For STEM strand was a souvenir booths.
From the Junior high school grade, they made their own gimmicks like dedication booth, dancing and singing booth, horror booth, jail booth and many more.
"For this coming song was dedicated to his long time crush, please notice her feelings. From a student in STEM strand," the announcer broadcasted and played the song entitled By Chance You and I, if I'm not mistaken. Some students shrieked and giggled because of the bravery of the girl.
I'm here in the food and retail booth to order some snacks alone. I didn't even saw Vener on the previous hours because he might be busy.
Then, I heard another dedication from lower grade and I didn't contain my smile upon reminiscing my high school life that I also wrote a dedication to my crush.
"Here's your order ma'am," I was about to get it when a two students came and handcuffed me. It took me a seconds to process what was happening.
"I'm sorry ma'am," not familiar student said apologetically that made me woke up in reality that I was the victim of my own approval. She's not my student.
I shook my head. "But why I was involved?"
"Yeah, that's life ma'am," a student with a long hair paused. "It was approved in our proposal that teachers can be involved in our gimmicks."
I was down founded recalling about it. Then, I remembered that I even consult my fellow teachers about. In the end, I approved it when Vener also agreed and have no choice but to follow the rules of jail booth.
"How about my food?" trying to made a reason to escape but didn't handcuffed me. "I will tell to your adviser to fail you," I threatened them but the didn't halted. In the end, they put me in an exclusive space for their jail booth. I was surprised that I dug my own grave.
All of a sudden, I felt regret for my approval that I didn't even look forward for the possible consequences. I was too complacent. But what surprised me more was seeing Vener inside the jail booth seating alone. Like me, he became victim of his decision.
I sat near him.
I'm glad that there was an electric fan inside to ease the hot atmosphere lurking around. I felt my throbbing chest and I can't help myself felt nervous because it was my first time being with him in a close area and closer enough with each other.
"We'll be staying here for one hour," he said. I looked at him and exactly met his eyes.
"Yeah, that's the rule." We both laughed. We shared random stories to ease boredom. Our stories about our throwback high school life and I kind felt that if I were given a time machine, I would wish to go back in time when I was still an innocent high school students.
"Did you know that because of the friends, I experienced going to the guidance office for an unknown reason. There is no specific reason why we were summoned. Otherwise, I was just hooked because I was with the group," he said with a glint of smile. We're talking about our epic memories. "There is another. Because it's forbidden to bring cell phones to school, I let my friend hold my cell phone. You know, he's a good boy and I'm not but before I gave it to him I disassembled it first. Then, he placed in the safety pocket. But it turns out that the cell phone was missing, all that was left was a sim card only to find out that my phone was confiscated."
"I was lost of words. I didn't expect that you that side of yours," I abruptly said.
"Yeah, even you, I notice some changes," my face heated to make me blushed. "Its a good sign that you can now smile."
I was about to respond when the curtain open by pulling to one side and a student earlier who arrested me for their gimmick came to our view.
"Ma'am Sandoval and Sir Costello, here's your snack. Enjoy your moment," she said meaningfully. A boy came in lifting a small table followed by another boy holding a tray. They put in front of us.
"We are really sorry ma'am and sir."
Well what was done is done. This will be a lesson for me.
"How much?" Vener asked to the students pointing at the snacks.
"200 pesos Sir including the food that Ma'am Ayesha ordered earlier," he gave an exact bill from his wallet and put it back to his pocket.
"Thank you," and they all dismissed leaving us two alone. If before it was too much nervousness and uneasiness, now it has been replaced by comfort because Vener knows how to manage an awkward atmosphere.
We began to eat.
In the middle, his phone rang. He brought out from his pocket to see who was caller. I glance at him and unexpectedly, I gazed to his phone when his mom's name was the caller. I don't even surprise by it but what surprise me was his phone lock screen wallpaper. Vener notice it by my expression and didn't have the guts to answer the call.
I do not know what to feel and what to think. I was filled of mixed emotions but my negativities withstand.
His phone lock screen wall paper was none other than me. What does it mean?
