We both walked quietly with no single word. Is this how companion behave to each other?? The tension feel so awkward. Ace just silently walk in front of me, since it looked like he won't say any words sooner or later, neither I tried to strike a conversation. In the end, I just decided to open my window.
'The Great Author'...
Such a weird name for an ability, but how did it work actually? I peeked at Ace who was still walking in front of me quietly.
Since he didn't care about things I'm doing, trying this odd ability now wont be too much right?
I tried to activate it, but suddenly a notification window popped up in front of me.
[This ability cannot be used.]
...excuse me?
I tried to activate it again, alas the same notif popped up.
[This ability cannot be used.]
Then why the hell did you gave me this if it was unusable?? was the system error or something?
Not giving up, I kept on trying to activate it. My mind gotten quite dizzy to the amount of the same notification that kept showing up.
"What the hell are you doing?"
I snapped back and look at Ace, he had a confused expression on his face.
"Nothing in particular."
"How come it's a nothing when there's a lot of notification keep popping up in front of you?"
I didn't answer and walk past him, "Anyway.. it gotten nothing to do with you, we should focus on the Quest."
He frowned as he looking at me with suspicion. Geez, I could feel his glare, it's not like I was going to kill you or anything.
I looked at our quest mission again, 6 common grade monster... It shouldn't be too hard if Ace was on my side.
I spoke to break the silence "Since it's only 6 common grade monster, it shouldn't be to hard.."
"Well for me it's not hard but, how about you? Last time, you couldn't even kill the similiar common grade monster." He snorted.
This cocky bastard, I'll show you how great your author was. Was he really this mannerless? I believe I made him to be a serious type of protagonist.
"I can do it this time, I learned few things you see.."
"Oh yeah? Then show me when we encounter them."
I only glared at him, well I'd show him how great I was that your jaw gonna drop in front me. Guess I gotta tame this cocky dog first, never knew he'd be this annoying.
Ace who stayed silent before he suddenly spoke, "Anyway white rabbit, where are we going actually?"
"Hm? Oh.. it's the forest or maybe the river bank— wait what did you call me again?"
"White rabbit."
I looked at him in a confused manner and asked "Why though?"
He gone silent for a bit. One hand touching chin and covering his mouth. Not long later, a sentence escaped his mouth "You looked quite bright white. Reminded me of that one animal."
I found it ridiculous, what was with him? was he just being random? but saying that with such expression, I couldn't even think anymore.
Either way I didn't really want to know. I once again opened my window.
Since 'The Great Author' ability couldn't be use for the time being, let's see the other ability first.
'Hourglass'.. Just by looking at the name, I could tell it was probably connected with something called Time Travel or maybe Regression. Didn't dare to activate that one yet, it was too risky I assumed.
I've tried 'Abyss' before and as you knew, it also failed. As I was about to raging out because my skills were just like goods only for display in thrift shop, I spotted one skill that i didn't touch just yet.
'No Corruption'
...
I tried this skill and for once finally, something that actually worked.
[Your mind resistance has increased highly!]
Though I was a bit disappointed that this skill didn't gave me any buff in my physical ability, I thought my self that it was better than nothing. You know, just in case a troublesome enemy encounter us, at least I could defend my self.
At first, I didn't feel anything different. But slowly, I could sense that my mind felt calmer and clearer than before. I guess this skill could also giving me some side buffs.
Before I could even fully understand the skill, another notification showed up beside me... I really gotten sick of seeing these notification windows.
But as soon as I saw the contents, I immediately felt it was better if it kept showing up.
[Esper
[You have received 400 Starlights, current balance : 400 Starlights]
I read it twice, as I didn't believe this jerk who just mocking me 10 minutes ago would actually giving me some pennies.
"Use it cleverly. Mainly, invest them to your stats first. Plus, recalling your skills are somewhat troublesome."
I see he already fishing some eyes to my skills. Well, good thing that the system covered them with weird names and didn't gave Esper any further details. But still, he really could tell in one glance the fact that my skills were indeed so much of a pain in the ass.
"So you do have some heart."
"I just don't want an unstable, weak companion but thanks for the compliment."
"....."
I went silent to his answer. You don't know just how much I wanted to poke this bastard's eyes.
I hurriedly invest my mere 400 Starlights to strength and stamina as those two are the one I need the most if I want to use my Infinite Sky.
[200 Starlights has been successfully invested in Strength]
[Strength Lv. 1 >> 3]
[200 Starlights has been successfully invested in Stamina]
[Stamina Lv. 1 >> 3]
As I was about to check and trying out my Infinite Sky again, Ace suddenly stretched his left arm to the side expecting me to stop in place as his vision kept on low point to the front.
He froze in that position for several minutes. Losing patience, I slapped down his arm and asked him, "What's the matter?"
I saw his eyebrows bent down quite deep and with him didn't even trouble to shift his eyes to me, he spoke, "...disgusting."
I gotten my mind loading so hard for seconds wondering did he just curse me out of nowhere? But as soon as my brain reconnected, I looked into direction Ace was staring to.
Bunch of medium-sized monsters were wandering near a river bank. Most of them were looked like nymph of some bugs, and though its shape was like this for now due to early game effect, later they'd be one of the most troublesome monsters to face.
Anyway, If we exclude those who were in their adult age, killing them won't be too hard.
Then here he was.
I looked at Ace, eyes squinted, "Don't tell me you scared of them?"
"Did you just asked that to me?" He looked at me before continued, "Disgusted and scared is two different thing."
"...then why did you halted for so long?"
Ace didn't look at me, but I could feel his intense desire to beat my face up so I could shut my mouth.
Thought about it, he gave me 400 Starlights out of the blue..
"Hohoho— could it be, you sent me those 400 Starlights not because you want me to be stronger but actually because you scared of those giant bugs."
Ace cracked his neck, eyes narrowed, oops looked like he was angry.
"Are you deaf?"
"Lead this battle then, I'm on your back." I spoke with a cocky tone, then I see him looking at the bugs silently. I could guess clearly from that pale expression, he is scared.
Anyway, I couldn't bully him like this, though it was pretty amusing. "Chill, I'm just joking." After I said that, he clicked his tongue.
Summoned his sword and started to activate his skill, judging by the purple fog around him, he was using the skill [Crescent Lavender]
Now that I had level up my strength, I could try using my Infinite Sky again this time. If it was lucky enough I could bring down that one skill [Abyss] too.
As I activated my skill, and turned out my guess are true, it worked now but it was actually heavy for me to bear. I'll probably use the 'No Corruption' skill when my head start to get dizzy and aching in pain.
"Alright Ace, shall we start now?"
"Whatever."
