First Arc (King of Euphorion) – 24. The King's First Day
*Knock* *Knock* *Knock*
As the morning sun began to appear on the eastern horizon of Luminus City, the knocking sound woke Angel from his sleep. He opened his eyes slowly, his head felt heavy and his entire body ached as if he had been beaten badly yesterday. Slowly, he checked at his wounded hand and realized it had healed.
'I understand why they are afraid of me because I'm also afraid of myself.' He knew his regeneration was far above normal, but he didn't expect him to be able to regenerate in such a bad condition.
The knocking sound came again, this time accompanied by a faint sound from outside.
"Your Majesty, your breakfast is ready."
'I have to get up, today is my first court. I can't be late.' He sighed tiredly as he forced his body to move.
Frost noticed that Angel was awake, so he went straight to Angel and helped him sit on his bed.
"Good morning, Your Majesty," he greeted.
"Thank you for keeping me safe last night."
"It's my duty, Your Majesty."
Another knocking sound accompanied by a faint voice from outside came back.
"Your Majesty, your breakfast is ready."
He took a glance at the door before turning his gaze back to Frost.
"Tell them, I will have my breakfast here."
Frost simply nodded, he released the Magic Barrier that covered the room, walked to the door and opened it.
Sarah and some of the maids greeted him with a slight bow.
"The king will have his breakfast in his chamber," said Frost to the maids.
"We will bring his breakfast soon," said Sarah. Then she gestured to one of her maids to do the assignment.
"We also want to deliver the king's uniform," she said again.
Frost turned to him and waited for his answer.
"Let them in," he said as he got down from his bed.
Several maids carrying trays containing Euphorion's black uniform in different sizes entered the room. Then they lined up before him and bowed.
"Good Morning, Your Majesty."
He answered with a slight nod and looked at them. In a glance, he noticed they still looked scared although not as bad as yesterday.
"Your Majesty, since we don't know your size yet, we bring you some uniforms to try on," said Sarah as she invited him to examine it.
He approached them one by one while checking each uniform on their tray and realized that every maid he approached immediately curled in fear, he finally took a uniform that has a similar size as him.
"I'll use this."
"The royal tailor will come to measure your body for your new uniform this noon," added Sarah.
"Thank you," he replied simply. Then he went to the bathroom which was placed in the opposite direction of the bed. Some maids followed him and he halted his steps before turning towards them. They quickly curled in intimidation.
"You don't need to serve me for the bath. That also applies in the future." Then he continued to walk toward the bathroom.
Again, they looked relieved as they bowed to him.
"We understand, Your Majesty."
He had severe scars all over his body, which could cause problems if anyone found out about it since usually only prisoners or criminals had severe scars like this, especially Ilex's slash which had left clear marks on his back. He didn't want to make any mistake that could put him in a difficult position.
'If they see my scars, bad rumours will spread and it will complicate my position.'
------
He spruced his half-wet hair as he stepped out of the bathroom. Though he still wore the usual black military uniform of the Euphorion troop, he had a black badge engraved with the king's crown crest, the king of Euphorion's badge.
Sarah and the other maids were waiting for him beside a small dining table near a large window on the side of the room with some food that already served on the table. There was baked rosemary bread with light fragrant soup, along with scrambled moss flamingo egg, sliced baked iron sheep, some fresh vegetables salad and some fruits. Without saying anything, he sat down and finished his breakfast before leaving the room to the main hall followed by Frost.
He secretly took a deep breath to calm himself, when he saw a large white door with the golden crest of Euphorion not far away from him. This was his first court, he expected there would be a lot of resistance from the nobles and ministers in the early days of his reign.
