"What took you so long?" Minna asked Gerald as he scratched his nose. He was sitting on the couch and some of the white lines that were on the table earlier on were gone.
Gerald noticed this and the white substance that was on his nose. He also noticed the rolled up piece of paper in Minna's hand.
"I thought the first rule of being a drug dealer was to not use your own product." Gerald said as he sat down on a couch.
"Says who?"
"I don't know. Isn't there some guidebook on how to be a drug dealer or something?"
Minna chuckled at Gerald's words. "I forgot about your sense of humour, terrible! I'm the fucking boss of this shit! I run the show! I make the rules, you get me?" His voice sounded course and aggressive but at the same time it didn't sound threatening.
Gerald raised his hands in the air as if he was surrendering. "Whatever you say brother, whatever you say? Now tell me what is it that was so important that you could not wait for me to come up here?"
Minna pulled out a cigar from his pocket, he put it in his mouth. He touched his pockets as if he was searching for something. He stood up and removed the couches pillow.
"Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!" He shouted.
"What are you looking for?" Gerald asked Minna. Minna was frantically searching underneath the couch.
"My lighter! Have you seen it? It's a pink, wooden lighter with some weird letter carvings on it!"
Gerald put his head to temple and shook his head in disappointment. He had never felt more disappointed in his life. He was about to shed a tear of disappointment.
"Do you mean this one on the table next to your cocaine?"
Minna turned around. He smiled sheepishly as if nothing had happened. "Thanks. I didn't see it really. It was in my blind eyes spot."
He picked up a couch pillow and placed it back to its place. He placed two more pillows back as well.
"There's a pillow on your left, on your blind eye side." Gerald teased Minna.
"I know where left is... I can't see it where is- Nah I got it, i got it." Minna picked up the final pillow and placed it back in its place. He grabbed the pink lighter before sitting down.
"Listen Gerald, I got a job for you, really lucrative, really hard, reall-"
Minna stopped talking to light up the cigar in his mouth. It took him a few seconds before he could light it properly.
"I'm not entering the golden championship Minna, I don't want to do that. I am content with fighting in a normal cage match." Gerald said firmly.
Minna shook his head slightly, "No, that isn't my proposition, I have a job that you will like, if you do it I will pay you 2500 silver pieces, if you accept this job it will be the first of many. You will be a rich man, rich beyond your wildest dreams, you will have more than enough money to send your daughter to school. Has she not reached the age to attend school, Do you not want her to attend a fine school?"
Gerald frowned when he heard this. How did he know he had a daughter and she would start school next year. Gerald decided to ask him about this.
"How do you know that? How do you know that I have a daughter? How do you know how old she is?"
Minna smiled at Gerald. He took a puff from his cigarette before answering him. "I prefer to know all about my employees situation. So what do you think of this deal, 2500 silver for a job that will only take a week at most. If you do well on this job I will give you a stable job that will pay at least 20,000 silver per month!"
Gerald already knew what Minna was doing, he was using big numbers to tempt him. Had he said 20 gold it wouldn't sound as glamorous as 20,000 silver. He was using a human's greed against him.
"Is it illegal?" Gerald asked. He already knew the answer but he wanted it to be confirmed.
"That's a really dumb question, look around you Gerald, is anything about this place legal."
Gerald thought about this, he barely made 2000 silver per month, the average person made 6000 silver. He was barely keeping up with his daughter's medicine bill and the babsitter's money. Sometimes he didn't pay her until the next day and he barely ate a lot. It was a miracle that Gerald managed to keep his muscles despite all that.
'High risk, high return. This job is definitely illegal and possibly dangerous, but I need that money. That would be a massive increase in salary compared to my previous job. I won't have to worry about medical bills, food, clothes or anything at all.'
Minna smiled as he saw Gerald thinking. "Gerald I need you for this, no one else can do this job but you."
"And why is that?"
"I lack people I trust. I rarely sleep but when I do, I sleep with one eye open. I have enemies who wish to take me out and take over my business, come on it will be like old times, you and me against the world."
"I'll think about it." Gerald said as he stood up.
Minna also stood up he quickly ran over to Gerald and put his arm over his shoulder.
"Then let me make you a deal you cannot refuse."
"That desperate, huh?" Gerald asked. It was understandable, when a person loses trust for the people around him, they go to the people who were good to them for help.
Minna's stench was disturbing Gerald, if smells could be personified then he would be the smell of drugs.
"How about I pay for your daughter's surgery and in return you will work for me?"
