Chapter 1 - A Blessing

Under the suffocating pressure, she gasped for air. Bubbles formed as they floated away from her. She tried to look for the surface, searching and searching, but all she gathered was the pitch black sight of nothingness. The cold water froze every inch of her down to her core. She only heard the pounding of her heart.

Let me out! Please!

Her legs wouldn't move.

I-I can't breathe!

Her arms wouldn't move.

I can't see!

Her head wouldn't move.

The hard freezing water crept into her mouth, invading the last bit of space. Now she'll--

"Say are you okay?"

A soft melody resonated in her ears. She slowly opened her eyes to see a sweet looking girl smiling right at her.

"Oh! Looks like you're alright."

Her straight fluffy brown hair stretched to her shoulders as she wore a white elaborated dress.

"Where am I?"

Am I okay? The young girl tried to utter.

"Well, you see, you're currently drowning. But no worries, you'll be fine!"

The sweet looking girl clapped her hands.

"You'll soon have to leave, but I overheard it. Your wish, that is. So I'd like to offer my assistance. After all, you almost died in vain." She added.

"My wish? Why would you do that, no, why was I going to die? I didn't want to die! I was d-drowning and I couldn't move and I just felt so cold and I, and I-I!"

"I know, I'm so sorry for making you experience this! It was unfortunate, you see. Sometimes destiny likes to play tricks on certain individuals and I can only play my part. So I'm super sorry for the inconvenience! Don't worry though. You won't die, you have my word. I promise."

Her serious look would have been more convincing if her bangs weren't in her way. Even so the words brought a bit of ease for the young girl as she silently acknowledged her situation. Before long she began to look around where she stood.

What she saw could not be interpreted no matter how much she tried. Certainly, something was there, she knew it was there, but it wasn't noted at all. Instead it made her mind numb.

"I suggest you keep your eyes on me before you fall into danger."

"Why?"

"Well, you're not dead so I'm not allowed to say. Even so, you may die if you keep it up."

The young girl averted her sight before she made her situation any worse.

"Anyways, I'll help you attain your biggest desire. So please take it as my apology."

"Why would you know of my wish?" The young girl asked.

No response.

Only a smile remained on her face. A graceful smile that lets anyone be assured. So bright and cheery. So sweet and pure. A smile so perfect it made one wonder who she was. The young girl couldn't understand why, but this smile brought her more concern than comfort. She wanted to push for more, but her voice was held back by an overwhelming sense of sorrow.

"Again, I'm really sorry for this, I won't ask for your forgiveness but I'll pray for your safety." With another warm grin, she waved her hand.

"Wait! I still--"

The young girl reached for her, but never made it.

"Another unfortunate event. Oh lovely soul, I wish you the best." The sweet girl prayed in the chambers of her solitude.

"~~~~~?"

A voice rumbled through her ears filled with water. Her eyes immediately fluttered open. The jarring light jabbed her sight, making her flinch in surprise. The unbearable cold was gone and the pressure was lifted. Her face scrunched up like a sponge as she tried to adjust her eyes to the harsh light. But she forgot one thing.

"HWUUUU!"

She shot up straight out of the ground and took deep breaths to alleviate the sense of suffocation. Her only thought was to breathe. But it kept getting worse with each breath. Her hands shivered uncontrollably, but she wasn't cold. Her eyes blurred and her heart pounded by the second.

COUGH! COUGH! COUGH!

I almost died.

Tears welled up, as they slowly sled down her cheeks. Her coughs wouldn't stop and her mind was in a frenzy, when suddenly;

"You're okay, you're fine!"

The boy held the girl's hand as he stroked her back to comfort her.

"Breathe in slowly. Slowly, Collette."
