Mana and Raven were exhausted after repairing the barriers – it had drained most of their magical and spiritual energy. The two children sat in the same spot at Mount Noir after they were done, leaning their backs against the mountain wall, too tired to move. There faces were pale, but both looked happy and satisfied with the outcome of their efforts.
"Grandfather would have felt the barriers going up again," Raven said softly to Mana.
Mana nodded and moved closer to him. "Good," she said. "We can sit here and wait for them to pick us up. I'm too tired to even lift a finger now."
"Sorry," Raven said guiltily. If he had been strong enough, he could have done this by himself. Then Mana wouldn't have been so exhausted. His heart ached as he looked at her pale and wan face.
Mana huffed and glared at him. "What in the world are you apologising for? None of this is your fault!" she snapped.
