Chapter 19 - Necromancy for dummies

On the fifth floor of the dungeon, Vlasfimia stood before the door leading to the boss arena, in front of it, the billboard, the first few names belonged to adventurers and some ruin knights who had since long passed away, they had all faced that boss by themselves and had been given points, Vlas had no idea what were the criteria for the number of points one got but there weren't much differences between all of these people, if Vlas had to guess the maximum was a thousand points, it was only a guess though.

Vlas did his usual stretches and made sure that he had everything he should have, after thoroughly checking, he pushed the door to the boss arena and as expected the door shut itself behind him and the room was suddenly lit up by torches on the walls.

At the very end of the round room, an elevated platform could be found, a green portal opened up on said platform and from it, a skeletal man stepped out, he was dressed in a basic, worn out, green robe, no flames were to be found in his hollow sockets.

The man's bones were covered in strectched out and dry skin, the boss raised his arms in the air and multiple green portals formed, from which emerged goblins that were nothing but bones.

Since Vlasfimia had known that he would be facing skeletons, he had decided to bring one of the goblin druid's staff to use as a club, after all the main weaknesses of skeletons were blunt damage and torsion damage.

In but a few movements, the undead goblins were destroyed, prompting the boss to send out another wave of summons, Vlas was starting to understand what this fight was about and why no one had yet to score the maximum amount of points, when facing this boss most people would not be strong enough to be able to carry out what was necessary to achieve the max amount of points.

From the portals, more goblins emerged alongside a few hobgoblins mixed in, none of them were armed meaning that they were severely outranged by Vlas, the second wave was not much harder than the the first.

After a while, Vlas started seeing another reason why no one had scored maximum points, the boss could summon for hours without issue and with the challenge increasing every wave, it was to be expected that people would just end up jumping up on the platform and decide to convert this guy's bones to sand.

However, Vlas was not going to give up, he had started something and was going to finish it.

Finishing the fiftieth wave by crushing the skull of an undead gnoll, Vlasfimia noticed that the boss was a bit slow to summon the next wave and indeed he seemed to be focusing intensely on his summoning this time, in fact when the one portal that appeared the boss fell flat on his face, for an undead to get tired he must have summoned some crazy shit.

The portal wasn't bigger than any other and it was the only one that had appeared, the boss got back to his feet and looked down at the portal, it seemed to say something in a low tone and from the portal emerged a knight, an undead knight.

The armor of the knight was beaten up and seemed broken in certain parts, from its back two dragon wings, only the bones remained of them, this was a dragon knight, one that seemed to have been on the right track to become a dragon.

The knight held a longsword that was beyond dull and whose tip had broken off, clearly the knight had lost quite a bit of their power when dying and their gear was crap but fighting against a knight after fifty wave of monsters was something else.

The knight moved forward and swung their sword at Vlas, instead of evading the blow Vlas swung the staff right back at the knight's sword, flinging it back, when it had moved forward, Vlasfimia had noticed that it's left arm was broken and was swinging without strength as it moved around.

As the both of them exchanged blows, the dragon knight seemingly unable to use any dragon attacks, Vlas started preparing to shoot out his flame bullet, the knight for the first time showed a sign of awareness as it seemed to back off.

A bad choice considering that it was ranged attack, the bullt shot out, taking a strange path as it did not go in a straight line, the bullet was too fast for the undead knight to react to as it went right through its helmet and skull, melting a hole through both of them, the knight fell in pieces as all its bones detached.

The boss had nothing else to summon so he just stood there and Vlas took some time to catch his breath.

During the few moments where nothing happened, the boss found himself thinking about something else than summoning his undead minions, however, he failed to grasp what he was trying to think of, he had forgotten what was so important, he felt like it was right there.

"Hold on" he said to the boss as he breathed in and out.

"Alright, I'm good" he then added after a bit, the boss showed no reaction to all of this.

Vlas jumped up on the platform and hit him on the top of the skull, breaking through his skull, ribcage and hitting against the ground afterwards, splitting the boss in two.

As his bones crashed against the ground, for the very first time, he remembered something, something flickered in his mind, in his soul.

'How long has it been?' he thought.

The remnants disappeared and a scroll fell on top of Vlasfimia's head, picking it up and reading through it for a bit, it was quite the strange spell, it wasn't even about summoning, it was a spell that removed the flesh off corpses and left only the bones, then it would turn the corpse into an undead but clearly it was as he had noticed the undead that rose from this spell were subpar.

It removed most of the corpses original abilities and made the undead completely unintelligent on top of weakening the stats of the body, this guy really was a necromancer after all, just a really bad one.

Going back to the entrance, Vlasfimia went to check what score he had gotten, he had obtained an item after all, something that wasn't heard much of with bosses that guarded the entrance of floors and indeed, there he was first place with a thousand points, he wasn't sure if you just needed to go through all of the waves or if you also needed to do it by yourself to get all of the points but he would certainly have to do this boss again to get more of these scrolls.

But now, since he had defeated the boss once, he could just get through the door that was next to the boss room at any time now.
