Chapter 16 - Fifteen: Mission Stopover

"Wow, so this is Mars…" Dwaine said in wonder as she observes the entirely different environment.

"Well, have you ever had a school trip like this one before kid?" Matt asked while referring to Dwaine.

"No way… and if it is, every student will be dying to have a waiver signed, Mr. Matt. Well, we had a simulated experience once in the New York Science Center before… but this one, it's real!" Dwaine replied.

"Yeah, you got that right kiddo. It's pretty amazing, isn't it?" Matt followed up.

"Yeah, it is Mr. Matt, it is. I never thought I would be able to go this far. Back then, I only saw it in the movies or… or in the science textbooks, encyclopedias, and in the planet charts. Yet now, I'm here! I-I don't know if I should thank that Bunnyterrian or blame him whatever… but honestly, this is super awesome!" Dwaine openly shared her thoughts.

"Then think of it as a super duper rare experience mate." Hamada interrupted.

"Aye-aye captain sir!" Dwaine agreed as she kiddingly saluted and followed a laugh with everyone else.

Everything was red and orange, sands, rocks, hills, and plains. There is not a single life or a Martian existence is present in this ordinary Red Planet. However, not for the first timer Dwaine whose eyes are filled with so much vigor and amusement. For her point of view, being able to land and walk on to this famous Red Planet that you could only see in books and bulletin charts is the rarest experience she will ever have in her entire life.

The excitement and enthusiasm is building up inside Dwaine. Ravaging impatiently how much she badly wanted to explore this planet right now. Well, what's the point of risking her life on this tracking mission and the two-hour space basic training if she cannot even have a single step and a flag on this Red Planet? So, as for an equal exchange she wishes to walk around on it too.

"Alright crew, the time has come for us to enter the Martians' Dominion. But before that, Dwaine junior, I want you to exchange suits with me." Dr. Chan commanded.

"Ok… but why should we?" Dwaine asked.

"Personal matters my dear trainee. 'Cause you see, there is someone highly of grace and authority in there who will recognize me, and that highly someone is going to be the biggest disruption in our mission." Dr. Chan oddly brief out his explanation.

"Well, that's a good idea Dr. Chan. If the Martian hounds, scans your suit data, using Dwaine's, they will never detect your presence." Dr. Holly interjected.

"Well, isn't that the same Dr. Chan? Since I will be going with you? I mean I'm still part of this mission…" Dwaine insisted with uncertainty written all over her face.

The entire passenger in the ship stared at the Dwaine with worried looks on their faces, unsure on what to tell her. Brainstorming about this all of them together looked at Dr. Chan for help.

"Oh, c'mon! Why you look'n at me people?!" Dr. Chan complained.

"Well… she's your responsibility, Papa Duck." Judy blamed Dr. Chan.

Upon hearing this abrupt insult from his colleague, Dr. Chan jaw dropped at the unexpected comment. He took a deep breath and let out a loud scoff.

"Fine! Fine! I'll do it!" Dr. Chan exclaimed.

"Are you hiding secrets from me?! 'Cause I don't like feeling left out!" Dwaine angrily suspected.

"Oh, yes they have!" Tamako said out of the blue.

"TAMAKO!" all of them shouted at Tamako with a murderous glare.

"Oopsie…" Tamako sheepishly grinned.

"I knew it! You people are a bunch of liars!" Dwaine yelled at the group.

"Treason!" Tamako added.

"It's not treason, its betrayal…" John corrected.

"Oops, BETRAYAL!"

"Shut it, Tamako!" everyone scolded her.

"Peace…?"

"The cat's out of the bag now people! Now, tell me!" Dwaine lose her temper.

"(Scoff) CAT'S OUT OF THE BAG?!" Noirren interjected.

"It's a FIGURE OF SPEECH, STUPID!" Dwaine shouted back.

"Take a deep breath, baby Dino… Whoo…zah…" Dr. Holly calmed her.

"(Exhales sharply) I'm cool… I'm cool… (Huffs) Now tell me!"

"The thing is Dwaine… you're out of the mission." Dr. Chan replied.

"Pardon?"

"That's right Dwaine. This mission is too much for you. Your task is done and you are not needed anymore. I hope you understand kid. You're still young for this. So, leave this matter to the professionals." Dr. Chan confronted her.

"So, that's it? I've come this far and just stop… right here…?"

"It's alright kid. Well, you can still come with us after this mission. But… not today, this is just too much for you to handle." Judy comforted her.

"Judy's right Dwaine, at least you got to experience in Mars up close. C'mon cheer up baby Dino!" Dr. Holly added.

"(Sniff) alright then… you may go. I'll be fine." Dwaine sadly agreed while hiding her face from everyone.

"Oh, somebody made the girl cry. Heartless adults! Professional at making babies cry." Tamako sarcastically murmured to herself.

Everyone glared at Tamako with a murderous intent.

"What…? Did that hit you hard?" Tamako exclaimed.

"That dumb idiot is on it again." Matt mumbled to himself.

"Let's just go. The sooner we do this mission, the earlier it is done." Dr. Chan interrupted with a command.

Everyone went silent and followed Dr. Chan's order. They exchange suits and ready to initiate their mission. The crew is getting nervous while Dwaine is sulking in the corner. Afterwards, the entire team went out of the ship and walked out into the sandy orange plateau.

Dwaine was left in the ship and when noticing everyone was out, she went forward into the skylight and observed at the muddling crew.

"You airhead, Tamako? Can't you read the vibe?" Matt insulted Tamako.

"Well, it's not my fault you made the girl cry…" Tamako rolled eyes.

"Shut it you two. You're not helping." Hamada stopped the fight before it gets heated.

The two stopped the argument and proceeded. While Dwaine sadly staring at the window hoping they will change their mind bringing her in. But out of sudden the group disappeared and nowhere to be found anymore. This startled Dwaine and became curious.

"That's fishy…" she commented and smiled mischievously.

Dwaine was devoured by her curiosity and began to look at the ship's control table. There were so many colorful buttons and levers and this tempted her to do something crazy. She looked for the instruction manual yet unfortunately she finds none. Having this result, she grew impatient and growled how frustrated she is right now.

"Well… don't mind if I do."

Dwaine began her mischief by wildly playing the buttons on Matt's area.

"Umm… maybe this one..?"

Dwaine pressed the odd red button and suddenly a gun popped out of the spaceship. She finds it cool and continued to press more buttons. She pressed the orange, the yellow, the green, the blue, and the violet. And right now, unaware that she is, all of the weapons available in the ship are ready to shoot.

"Well… let's see what this lever do…? To INFINITY and BEYOND!" Dwaine excitedly announced and pulled the lever.

The lever was pulled and suddenly the ship started to shake wildly. This did not disturb Dwaine and she was so excited to see the result. It was shaking and more shaking and suddenly… it stopped.

"Oh, wrong lever." Dwaine disappointedly said.

And all of a sudden, an invisible force fired at will.

--BOOM!—

The red desert was shot and the dust blasted out into the open. The ship lost its power and it had a hard bump on the surface. Dwaine was budged from the chair and had a hard fall. She groaned at the pain that she felt and slowly stand from the floor. She gazed at the skylight and surprisingly she saw what she shouldn't have seen.

"Well, I guess… it's the right lever."
