10:21 AM 10/28/2020, I was leaving for haldwani from
Delhi to attend the procession of the new born baby of
my friend's cousin, he forced me to come with him,
{every new life is a surprise their they celebrate} I don't
know why but he was trying to make me understand
the feel everything and to enjoy everything that was
going to happen there you will find it interesting and
funny,
In India when a baby is born there are a lot of rituals
practiced especially when it comes to pahadi (people
who live in hills are known as pahadi in India) culture.
Specially in kumaon culture,
Firstly when they welcome the new born the whole
town /village is informed by beating drums or by (begul)
or shank all pahadi instrument ,and then the house of
the host is fill with relatives and friends, giving blessing
and making homemade sweets.
The bad thing that I feel is there are some villages in
Indian hills where no medical vacillates are available so
most of the baby deliveries are done in their houses by
midwife daimaa (midwife)
when the baby is born there is allot of rules and
customs that should be follow like - they distribute
gudh (jiggery) and dry fruits and other sweets to every.
house near him ,probably to the whole village( atte ka
halwa) it's the Indian traditional dish which includes
sugar, flour, ghee(oil), and some dry fruits if you want
and (bade and puye) which is two different things one is
salty dips and one is sweet dips ,basically all the Indian
traditional dishes which is cooked in any occasion
and till 11th day nobody from that house visit the
temple or take the new baby to the temple because
they believe that it's not good to take that dirty baby to
the temple although the baby is cleaned by water at the
time when the baby born but they says that its
(ekantwas). {Quarantine so that they both will not get
infected.
And on the sixth day,
the atmosphere of that house in which the new born
came is so happy and every single person is busy to
organize the function mostly the ladies of the house,
they organize a pujaa in which they pray to god to bless
the baby with all the people in their family no matter if
they live far from them, they have to come to help with
them.
the busty is when the yellow colored should with the
dark brown pattern on it called(pichouda) which is
ladies is suppose to wear with the boatful
All the ladies wear saris. And in the early morning, the silence of the hills is
disturbed by the more melodious sound of bells mostly
comes from every houses because most of the people
there is very religious and they've prayer in there
morning routine, in that little dim lightening of rising
sun between the big mountains full of greenery all
these things are lovely with a cup of tea which is made
up of red soil with doesn't mix in the tea but still you
can smell it.
After the pujaa they also organize a lunch for all people
in the village
after that beautiful day ,there is more to celebrate after
four days from the sixth day ,one more custom is rake
down left called (naam Karan) in this custom the
parents of the new born decides a good name for the
baby .
Since the morning all the ladies of the started preparing
for the pujaa I was pretty excited that what will happen
today
,because I've never seen these kid of customs but still
my family belong there but I've seen it beforehand at
that day I was curious to know that what new things will
going to come up, specially the outfits of people there
and the way or the process that will going to happen.
one thing I've observed that in pahadi culture there is
no show off thing so they do things in very simple wayand there simplicity makes them so decent and even
more beautiful and the people there are so helpful that
they are always ready to jumping to help anyone., even
they are stranger to them and this kindness make them
special .they are very nice to me .
