Chapter 65 - Chapter 63 - The Ocean Temple (Part 3)

The horses were of course, afraid of the great blue. The floating sensation was very different to the busy roads at Alcista and Gorrion. Dan frequently conversed with them to ensure they felt their master all the time.

They had to use magic to get cooked food because they couldn't cook fish and boil water. Dan felt sure he hadn't brought any canned food, but Fayette wasn't. Anyhow, Fayette tried her magic to turn a mackerel into canned mackerel. She chanted "Hocus Pocus Magnus Mackerelus Cannus!"

The mackerel didn't change at all...

"I've never heard such a dumb magic spell before," said Dan. "It seems you're from Rome"

"Of course not! It's a tradition to use Latin in magic. That's pure logic!"

"Well, it's better to use greek for them. Those annoying Latin words end with 'us' all the time. And I HATE THEM! Greek words don't"

"Try for it, then"

"ABRACADABRA Scythius Magna Mackerela Magna Lucifius....what comes next?.... I totally forgot it. Wait a second. Scythius Maximus Magnatium Selenium Beryllium Lithium Platinium Zirconium Argentum Aurum Ignatius Fignatius Doctronius Hydronium Helium Gallium Hydragyra..."

"What on Earth are you chanting?"

"Greek, I mean, Fantalasian Greek spells."

"It would be very nice of you if you tell me WHY."

"To turn a mackerel into canned mackerel, of course. That's the thing we're doing here, as it's pure fact to use Greek."

"Well, it's probably that you're taking Chemistry class for all of us present here. It's pure nonsense."

Though many arguments and confusing spells on Fanatalsian Greek and Latin were imposed on the fish, eventually, it turned into a shark, which would've cost their life. It's Fanatalasia, and Sharks can breathe out of the water, but can't move.

Anyways, after searching the bags for a very slow half an hour, they found canned food, which Dan had packed weeks ago. Neglecting the waste of time, they ate it merrily.

It's the following day now. They entered the tent for sleeping the night there. The first day went relatively good. The second was a day of new discoveries. Just moments after waking up, Camb found an island, which was deserted. There were five trees on the island. But, Dan and Fayette couldn't figure it out even by inspecting with a spyglass.

Dan rowed the boat to the island. It took them no more than 10 minutes to reach there. On the island, they cooked their breakfast. Fayette boiled mackerel, onions and pepper and salt with water to make fish broth. Meanwhile, Dan surveyed the five trees.

The five trees were different species - they weren't the same. The trees are:

Pine-Coconut-Willow-Sandalwood-Date Palm

It was pretty unusual to have pine, willow, and sandalwood on a barren island with no moist soil and a cool climate. The other unusual thing is that they were arranged in the series above on a pentagon border and that the border of the pentagon was carved out on the sand. It was pretty mysterious.

Camb and Fayette were just running around the island, to find any evidence of the pattern, but unfortunately, they didn't find any. They would've stood in the morning sun for about two hours carefully examining the trees, but nothing could be found. All that was visible to their eyes were five trees planted in an unusual place and unusual manner by an anonymous person.

Dan and Fayette were feeling extremely bored over there. Camb didn't bother them and was lying on the raft, under the tent. Dan was swinging his axe in the air for a small practice against defending rivals. By mistake, he swung the axe into one of the down-facing branches of the willow tree.

The branch fell on the soil, just as any other branch would fall off when cut. Dan took out from the ground and was just examining for surpassing time.

The stranger thing is that there was no wood inside the branch - there was paper inside! It's pretty impossible, though, in fact, it was Fantalasia. Yet, when Dan inquired about this to Fayette at lunch, she stated that there wouldn't be any such thing occurring naturally, except for an external force (i.e. magic).

Anyhow, Dan tried to pull the paper out of the branch. It came out very neat, like a swiss roll from the hot oven. The paper was an empty one - nothing has been written on it. Realising that paper might be found on all the trees, he decided to cut all the trees. Dan produced a saw by magic and cut all the trees.

Of course, his sense was right. There were lots of papers from the trees, but only five papers had words written on them.

Another suspicious thing is that when Fayette was kept in a circle, square, rectangle, triangle, or oval, it didn't give meaning and one or more bits of paper were either left out or not sufficient. But when it was kept in the order of a PENTAGON, it gave meaning.

Thus, Fayette and Dan have cracked the mystery of the island. Now, the joined paper read, "REACH 'Isla Hernández' IN THE NORTHEAST. YOU MAY FIND CURSE AND LUCK OR CURSE OR LUCK OR NO CURSE AND NO LUCK."

Dan sprinted immediately to the raft and foraged his bag to find a map of Cabro and Bajista. There, he searched for Isla Hernández feerociously.

"There! I found it! There's ISLA HERNÁNDEZ over there!"
