The gigantic Black Crystal seemed to be the source for the War Giant Tree's power. Once it was excavated, the War Giant Tree lasted for less than ten minutes before it depleted. Not only did the secretion of its sap greatly decrease, but its bark also continuously shriveled and peeled off. Unable to recover from the damage inflicted during Ange's battle, the War Giant Tree soon thunderously fell to the ground.
Falling is but an adjective here; there is actually no "ground." Simply put, having lost its energy source, the War Giant Tree couldn't sustain such intense consumption and became immobile, only able to watch as insects devoured it, leaving behind nothing but a chunk of wood.
Mattis leaped forward, trying to collect these insects, only to discover they possessed an incredibly strong life force. After absorbing billions of them, he actually became overwhelmed.
"Master, I can't eat anymore... I'm too full..." Mattis said.
