A three-meter-long Lightning Spear, compared to a thousand-meter-tall and five-hundred-meter-thick Giant Tree, each strike was like a needle prick. Whether it was painful or not was another matter, but it didn't cause damage; rather, the area struck by lightning would be more of an annoyance with sparks and fires erupting.
The War Giant Tree had to divert some of its attention to extinguish the flames, and then the charred areas would sprout new bark, toughening up and quickly restoring itself to an undamaged state.
Aside from being annoying like the woodpeckers pecking at it in its youth, sick or not, they would peck you full of holes until it grew up a bit and secreted tree resin, keeping those annoying woodpeckers away.
