I walked into the diner, and the smell of bacon wafted into my nose, making my stomach growl. I had almost forgotten that I hadn't finished my pizza before coming. I looked around the diner, searching for a glimpse of Ari.
I saw her sitting at the corner, her hair messed up and looking out the window. My feet carried me over to her, and I couldn't help but wonder what was going on with her.
"Hey," I said as I took a seat beside her. She turned to me, and I saw her eyes swollen and the heavy bags beneath them. "Is everything okay?"
"Oh, hey, Thea. Sorry to call you out like that. I honestly didn't know you wouldn't be here." She smiled, but it looked forced, almost like she's trying not to show me her tears.
I shook my head, taking in her situation. "That's fine. Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm okay." She sniffled, looking down at the table.
