Chapter 6 - Chapter 8

"The famous prosecutor Lucas Spelling? Who would have known that all this time you were a cop?"

"Not exactly. Just someone that helps get rid of the bad guys off the streets."

"All the same." 'Well isn't this a fine how do you do? Is this fate telling me to get justice for Aquila? My way of getting closure for him, that nightmare from this morning had me kind of out of it all morning. Oh, Father God, is this what you want me to do, or is this just another opportunity that falls on itself.' I think to myself, while looking at the ground.

"Kemille?" Lucas says, I look up to meet his soft gaze. He moves his arm from off the back of the bench, and lightly places his hand over mine. "Are you okay? Do you want to talk about it?"

Shaking my head, I stand up from off the bench saying, "I'm sorry." I turned around  to grab my bag and balled it up in my hand, continuing to say as I walked away from him saying, "I… I… I have to go. Uhm I'll see you next time Lucas. Thank you for lunch."  as I'm turning around to leave him, there's a trash can on the other side of the pathway. 'I can't believe an opportunity like this fell into my hands. I have to speak to Fei and see what she thinks, even if she might say that I'm stupid for leaving him like that.' A small breath of air escapes from my lips.

Stopping at the stoplight to put in the address of the bakery on the google maps app to walk was surprisingly enough very easy to follow instructions back to the bakery.

I look up ahead to see a familiar body shape standing there on the street side waiting for me as if he's been standing there for a while. He then says, "Hey, gorgeous what are you doing in these parts? I thought that you were at work."

My right eyebrow raises while my lips turn into a paper-thin line, "Great, it just became asshole day. What are you doing here Quinton, stalking me? It's a crime ya know."

"Ha-ha-ha, very funny. I just so happen to be walking by and I saw you walking by. I thought to grace you with my presence."

I say while pointing to him, "You?" putting down my finger I scoff,  "Never, when you come around it's always for a reason. Now I told you, I don't want you coming around me anymore. Got it?" I begin to walk away from him to get back on the road, suddenly I can feel a warm yet stern hand around my wrist. Turning around to see his hand over mine, "Quinton, move it or lose it."

He lets go of my hand, "Kemi, I noticed that you were hanging out with Mr. Spelling. You do know that he's a famous Prosecutor?"

"Yes, I'm aware of that. What do you want? Are you trying to threaten me?"

"You're aware of that and you still kept on talking to him. What if the whole Aquila thing comes out on one night of passion between you two."

I step up to Quinton, "First off Quinton you don't get to come here and threaten me on my choice of who I can hang out with. Now, I do have a choice of whether I should tell the police about Aquila. But by doing this everytime, do you think about me? The amount of guilt I feel, when I close my eyes, I can see him  sitting in that chair with his insides out and you expect me to not want justice for that. You're such a bastard, for that you have no idea how I've been suffering because of the guilt and the pain of losing someone that I care about."

"You know Kemille I was hoping that you would remain on my side of the tracks, but it seems that-- you and I aren't on the same page anymore-- as a matter of fact I don't think that you and we were ever on the same track. But come on, show me some compassion."

I scoff at him, "Compassion? Negro please, did you show Aimee compassion in the bathroom? Did you even show your own flesh and blood any compassion? With all that laid across the table, why should you get any compassion?"

A small breath of air escapes from his mouth, "Listen, I don't expect you to care that much for me, not like I think you ever did. But what I will say is that, I am someone who was protecting what is mine. As far as I can see it, he was taking away someone from me and I didn't like that."

I scoff at him as I'm walking away from him and my hand waves him off. He let's me go, "I don't belong to you, Quinton or anyone else. I'm not going to allow you to keep on assuming that I am your property,"

He nods his head, "That's cool, trying to be defiant, but let me remind you of one thing I've got backing that you don't have. So if you spill then he'll spill and not the way you want him to either; don't try me Kemi." Quinton walks away from me going in the opposite direction.

'If I tell Lucas he'll put a hit out on him but if I don't tell him my guilt will eat me out. Almost to the point of no return. I can't let him continue on with this any further-- I'll talk it over with Fei to see what she thinks. If I should or shouldn't.

As I come into the bakery a voice from the side of me says, "Damn girl, where did y'all  go, across the Caucasus mountains?"

"Ha-ha-ha very funny Fei."

"Ha-ha hell. Damn girl I said take a thirty minute break not a whole hour and some change. Now I demand that you tell me where did y'all go?" I smile while walking behind the register. Fei walks closer to me looking at me up and down with her right eyebrow up. A small chuckle escapes from my mouth.

Fei then crosses her arms across her chest, that's when I knew that if I didn't say anything she was gonna get angry "Okay." She then uncrosses her arms across her chest, "We went to that new park they made with the statue of a black woman in the middle of it."

She squints her eyes, "There's a new park up that way?"

"Yeah, I'll take you there sometime. Anyhow we were hanging out and he took me to the park I was telling you about, get this he finally told me his name."

Her head moves slightly to the left and her eyebrows are up with her eyes bulging out of her eye sockets saying, "What is his name, other than the nickname we gave him?"

"His name is Lucas Spelling the famous…" she cuts me off saying, "Prosecutor. Oh, you've done it now Kemi. I'm so proud of you." She reaches over to give me a hug, but I step more to the left, "In this story, there's always a 'but'. Quinton came around questioning me about Lucas and, and he threatened me. That if I told him about six months ago, he was going to do something to Lucas. What should I do?"

She scrunches up her face, "Kemille, duh! Lucas is the top prosecutor of New Jersey. What makes you think that he can't handle a crazy Quinton?"

"But you know Quinton means his word. Look at what happened to Aquila and he's his brother. If something happened to Lucas I don't know what I would do, and being top prosecutor doesn't protect you from bullets or a knife."  I say walking past Fei to the bakery side while she follows after me.

She grabs my arm, I turn around to see her hand over my wrist.  "I know it seems like a really big leap to tell him, but I truly believe that you should talk to him. Give Lucas a chance, I know that Quinton was being serious about his threat but seriously consider my advice."

Fei let go of her hold on my wrist, and I said "You're right, I should consider your advice, after all I always go to you for advice. Fei what would I do without."

"Girl, I do not know." She pulls her apron over her head and puts it over her arm. "But right now, I'm leaving and you have to be here with Oren. For just a little while."

"Ugh… what time is he supposed to come in?"

"The schedule says that Oren and Joy will be coming in at two in the afternoon."

"Ooh, okay. I guess I just elongated my shift by staying out for an hour."

"Mmh, not exactly. I think that you'll be fine to leave at your actual time since you came in earlier than expected." Fei says as a matter of factly.

The both of us nod our heads together and she leaves the department. I'm up front taking care of putting the cookies and croissants out on the floor. I then hear the bell at the door sound, my head turns to the door to see Lucas with his dark hair and his ocean blue eyes. A small smile graces my face, "Oh my gosh, what are you doin' here?"

He takes in a breath, "Jee," the breath escapes from his lips, continuing to say, "well, there was this girl that I was having lunch with and she abandoned me in the park on the bench no less than five minutes after me telling her my name."

My face scrunches up, "I'm sorry Lucas. It's not you, it's me. I promise."

He walks a little closer to me, "Then I guess I'm gonna have to make you owe me."

A small breath of air escapes from my lips.
