Chapter 5 - college life

Four months later....

I've settled nicely in my new life. I don't cheer anymore, I've made new really friends, and I skate more. Turns out the hockey coach is my dad's child hood friend and old teammate. So after the team practiced, coach Sidd would let me skate around and I would practice my slap shot. Michigan was awesome I never understood why my father left.

Kyle still texts and calls me, I thought of changing my number but it's really too much work. The town tried to blame my parents for me leaving, but my mother told everyone I'm having a mental breakdown. I haven't talked to her since, I still talk to my dad.

Kris and I shared a dormroom, although she was never there. During one of our summer classes she meet Logan. They hit it off quickly and got serious fast. Logan lived off campus with his cousin and team captain. Logan played goaltender for U of M, but being freshmen he was the backup goaltender. It was rare for a freshmen to be on the first two lines most played third or fourth. Logan's cousin, Alex, is a totally hockey nut and a sophomore. She also best friends with the school hockey team captain, Beck Bowen. Beck is a legend here, he made first line as freshman and now team captain as sophomore. He also U of Ms registered bad boy.

I've been avoiding the whole jock and frat boy partys and made a new friend, Dillion. Dillion is an art history major. Kris and I meet Dillion the first day we got here. He lives next door to us and I ran into him while carrying a box up to the room. He saw my Celine Dion CD and we been close ever since.

Thanks to the summer program, I'm able to get into more advanced class this year. I'm majoring in sports management. Ironic isn't it? I want to avoid all jocks yet pick sports management. Most of my classes are mainly sophomores then freshmen. Kris and I have three classes together all general education. After our last class we headed to the cafe for lunch. Kris is going on and on about the party this weekend.

"So Logan says we have to go since it's thrown by the frat most of the hockey team is part of. I told him I made plans with you so he was like just bring her," Kris rambles on. Oh no I see where this is headed. "So this weekend we are going to this party and your gonna have so much fun!" She finishes with a huge smile. I roll my eye, "Noooo you know I'm avoiding everything jock!" Kris stops and puts her hands on her hips glaring at me, "OH. MY. GOD. Jess will you stop! Not all Jocks are Kyle and I thought you got over it." I let out a sigh, "yes I got over it. I just don't think jocks are for me and they are all the same...hate to break it to you." I turn to look at her, I can see the annoyance in her eyes. "Really? What about Logan? Your dad? Coach Sidd? You say all this shit about jocks but then all summer you snuck in to watch hockey practices." She walks to where I'm standing. "COME ON JESSICA! Live a little. It's only a party I'm not asking you to date anyone." She puts her hands on my shoulders and shakes me. I start laughing she made good point, "Okay fine I'll go, I'll go." A huge smile broke out across her face, "you won't regret it. Now come on I'm starving." She hooks her arm into mine and leads me to the cafe.
