Chapter 75 - 'Professor' Arthur

3rd Person POV :

Dust covers the two mages, making it difficult to discern who won.

That question though, was soon answered as something shot out of the cloud of dust, which soon dissipated to reveal a lone figure still standing.

Upon closer observation it's certain Arthur lost, unsurprising as he had just been released from the infirmary.

Arthurs entire right arm was burned pretty badly and to him it was completely numb below his elbow.

Fayden, however fared better, while his arm was covered in multiple lacerations, they were still shallow and hence not very lethal.

Taking a deep breath in he made his way to Arthur offering him his arm.

Arthur accepted the gesture and allowed Fayden to hoist him up.

Without a word he extended his left arm to Arthur, who looked at it confused since his right arm was injured pretty badly.

An instant later understanding flashed on his face before he clasped Fayden's arm with his own.

Fayden closed his arm for a few seconds, within which Arthurs entire arm burst into greenish black flames.

Arthur clenched his teeth at the sudden unexpected onslaught of searing pain, but he managed to get through it, though not without letting out a few groans.

While Arthur was concentrating on not screaming out in pain, Fayden used the same flames to heal his own injuries, hissing through gritted teeth as a result.

Needless to say Gideon was quite intrigued by this.

Cynthia however was not, only because she had seen Fayden use it on Arthur before.

The screams he let out back then, accompanied with the intense thrashing...let's just say she's relieved Arthur doesn't remember it.

Back then she decided to ask the student about his peculiar spell, but upon seeing the sheer guilt on the boys face, she couldn't find it in herself to ask.

On the other side the two had finished their healing.

"It was a bit overboard of you to use that spell Fayden."

He scoffed, "Why do you think I healed you then? Of course I realize it was unnecessary, besides I did tone down the level of the spell."

"I could see that. You held back a lot during the entire spar."

"Obviously. You're still injured, and I'd rather not send you back to the infirmary."

"I'm grateful for that, now I think you owe our spectators some explanations."

He raises an eyebrow, "And why exactly do I owe them that? [Tartarean Vitality] is pretty self explanatory, it's a healing spell taking the form of flames."

"Which also inflict pain much worse than the original injury," He added sourly, still rubbing his arm.

"That's a minor detail."

"One which would've been nice to know before you used the spell on me."

"Now where's the fun in that?"

"You're a sadist aren't you?"

"And you're a masochist." He retorted back.

Bickering they leave the area, not noticing the dumbfounded look on Gideon's face.

Fayden Leywin POV :

As I put on my now fixed uniform I can't help but think about my spar with both Arthur and Nathan.

Man if Arthur wasn't injured the fight could have gone on for so much longer.

As for Nathan, he has a lot of potential, potential enough to surpass both me and Arthur without our beast wills. (Now, before any of you begin so complain by saying something along the lines of 'Heresy!', 'Bullshit!' etc, do remember he's comparing a White core Nathan with him and Arthur in their base forms, and he doesn't know about aether and realmheart and all that jazz. Besides Nathan will need something to even compare to post book 8 Arthur and Fayden.)

The mere thought of having a no-holds-barred spar against them makes my blood boil in excitement.

After all who doesn't like a little bit of battle?

Noticing the time I see its almost time for my first class.

I shake my head clear of these thoughts.

I need to focus on the class.

On the way there I notice Kathyln heading for the same room.

Approaching her I speak, "Morning Kathyln."

"Good Morning Fayden." She replied quietly.

"So, I hear you've been worried about me after I was injured at Geists class?" I speak.

"Yes. I'm glad that sorry excuse of a professor has been sacked."

"It's rare to see you badmouth anyone," I comment before quickly continuing, " Not that I disagree, he was one of the worst bastards I have had the displeasure of meeting."

She nods, "Not only did he utterly humiliate Feyrith, he also injured you."

"Well, to be honest Feyrith is too prideful for his own good. At least he isn't arrogant like another blondie I know." I grumble the last part to myself.

She nods once again, "I agree, Feyrith is a prideful person, but that is to be expected since he is from a noble house."

"I see, so why were you concerned? You should know it was something the emitters here could fix without much difficulty. Sure It might have scarred, but I was never that conscious about my looks."

A dusting of pink covers her cheeks, "I don't know. Seeing you hurt made me angry for some reason." She mumbled, almost inaudibly.

Cute.

Wait what?

I mean she does look cute with those big brown eyes of hers.

...

Head. Out. Of. Gutter. Now!

Darn these teenage hormones!

"Are you okay?" She asks me.

"Yeah, I'm fine."

I mean I know she's interested in me, and I can't deny that I like her as well but...

Considering I'm not really in the best of relationships with her father, and the fact that we're not even teenagers yet I decided not to pursue her.

But I almost blurted that out there.

I need to get a hold of my emotions.

I hear the sound of someone hobbling and look behind.

And Io and behold, there stands 'Professor' Arthur in all his glory!

Just as I think of that he stumbles and loses his balance.

Talk about timing.

I rush to him and grab his arm, preventing him from falling.

"Thanks,"

"You could have asked me to help you get there you know." I say.

He scratches his cheek sheepishly, "Yeah, I uh, forgot about that."

"Dumbass," Shaking my head I whisper as I place one of his arms around my shoulder.

He uses Dawns Ballad in his other arm as a walking stick.

A nigh indestructible sword, a beautiful one might I add, has been reduced to a mere walking stick.

Kathyln comes to help Arthur as well, but I'm quick to react, "There's no need Kathyln, he needs his other arm to maintain balance or his legs will give in."

She nods in response, but still slows down her pace to match ours as we make our way into the room.

As we enter the room Arthur turns towards me, "I think I'll be fine now, so you don't need to hold me up now."

"Sure, try not to scare them too badly once they protest will ya?" I say with a grin.

"No promises," He returns the gesture.

Thus Kathyln and I make our way towards the clearly distinguishable form of Feyrith.

"Sup annoying blond one." I ask.

"How many times do I need to say? It's Feyrith! Feyrith Ivysaar! Address me with some respect, I am your senior." He growls.

I chuckle at him, "Yeah, I'm not very well known for respecting my elders am I?"

"Grr..."

"My name is Arthur Leywin." Arthur begins, stopping Feyrith from tearing my head off.

"I'm a Disciplinary Committee member, the son of two wonderful mages." He continues.

"A doting brother," At this he glances at me.

And a reckless idiot.

I add mentally.

"And your new Professor." He finishes.

Authors Note

So how was that for a FayKath moment?

We also get to know Faydens inner thoughts about Kathyln.

He thinks by denying his feelings he wouldn't get together with Kathyln.

Oh how wrong he is.

For the power of the author goes beyond comprehension.
