In the distance a roar sounded and the small silver streak following the path of the rocket was forming. The rocket started to gently arch downwards towards the city in the far off distance below us and my mind was spinning with so many emotions, but before I could form a solid thought my body tensed. As I braced for impact, even though I knew subconsciously that I wouldn't feel it in the sanctuary, I gripped the small shelf in front of me so hard my knuckles were turning white. The nuke hit the city at an unfathomable speed directly at city center and and the blinding flash of the explosion began I felt all of the air leave my lungs in a gasp.
"OH my God! They're gone."
The mushroom cloud had formed, but I could no longer watch. I was broken and fell into my bed with hot tears streaming down my cheeks, I buried my face into the pillow and sobbed.
Everyone I had ever known and loved, my family, my friends, and the city that was once my home was gone....
