Meanwhile as the night goes deeper, Marjorie walked past the bedrooms while humming continuously with a tune then went directly downstairs and entered the kitchen.
"Oh, you're still awake?" She said when she took a glance of someone sitting on the other end of the dining table.
"Don't act innocent Marjorie, I know you came down here to pester me." A voice of a man replied. The face was not quiet visible for it was hidden in the dim shadows with the lower half of his body expose to the moonlight that breaks through the windowpane.
"Relax, I was just going to get some snacks. I'm kinda hungry a little bit." She said as she approached the cupboard and took out two plates of munchkins. "Here, have a bite." She handed one of the plate and put it on the table.
The guy just took a deep breath and clutch his arms together.
"Oh come on Dave, just eat the damn munchkins already." She exclaimed. "I made it just for you, shortly after you left for the mission." The tone of her voice changed sadly.
"If you exert that effort to make these munchkins then I'm not in the position to refuse." Dave said politely and took a bite of the munchkins on the plate. "But this doesn't change anything." He added.
Holding the munchkins in her hand, Marjorie walked towards the window and watch the moon above. Like as usual, it shines brightly through the coldness of the night accompanied by twinkling stars in the sky.
"Hmm… The moon seem so daring tonight." She said looking up and mesmerizing the luminous crystal floating in the sky. "What does it feel like to be up there?" She suddenly asked. "I bet it would be so beautiful like a paradise, a haven." She added.
Dave watched her carefully from a distance as her reflection mirrors on the glassed window. She stood there with uneven feeling, yearning for something that is hopeless to attain.
"Oh, serene moon that astound my heart, for I am the reflection of the darkest night, that craves for your warm luminous light. Yet you're so far and beyond my reach. This loneliness I feel, will it still be erased?" Marjorie uttered words which were unclear to Dave.
"You're talking nonsense again. If you have nothing productive to do then you better be sleeping." Dave said and latter follows a yawn. "Thanks for the munchkins anyway." He added and walks out of the kitchen.
Marjorie was left alone standing by the window. She sighed and munched the remaining munchkin on her hand and grabbed a chair to sit. She took the plate of munchkins from the table and munched them one by one as she continues to watch the beautiful scenery by the window.
A memory from the past appears on her mind as she continues to watch the open coldness of the night. She found herself way back at her hometown, Kestramore. A village in the west which is covered in mist most of the time.
"Hey, Dave! Wanna play?" She said giving him toothy grin.
This is a fraction of her memory from her childhood.
Dave just gave her a mean look. "Get lost." He pushed her aside and walks away.
Another fraction of memory from her past appears on her mind in a different setting. It was winter that time and the temperature was chilly plus the mist that veiled the village. Marjorie was outside playing with the snow. She was dressed all cozy to keep her warm. A pair of mittens, a scarf, a thick jacket and a bonnet. Suddenly, a group of bullies came and grabbed her scarf.
"Give it back!" She yelled.
"You want this? Then come and get it." One of them said and the others laughed at her.
"Hey, leave the kid alone." A cold voice spoke from behind them.
It was Dave. Marjorie was surprised to see him standing for her.
"Eh!?" One of the bullies made an eerie sound and glared towards him. "Do you want to get beaten huh, little punk?" One of the bullies said.
"Oh, mommy! Prince charming is here to save the day." The other guy said mimicking a girl's voice.
Dave just gave them a mean look.
"Eh! What's with that look?" The guy in front of him felt irritated.
Out of irritation, the bully tried to punch him on the face however the table was turned. He got the bully by the neck and locked his arms behind his back. They guy stuttered in pain. The other bullies tried to attack him but they were nothing compared to Dave's combat skills. The bullies ran away from the scene leaving Dave and Marjorie behind.
"Here." He handed her the scarf.
"Thank you." She said and starts to blush.
Dave just walked away from her like nothing happened.
Another fraction of her past appears on her thoughts but this time, they're much more older.
"Hey, What are you looking at?" Zhia asked her from behind.
"Nothing." She replied and her faced blushed.
"You're such a terrible liar, Marjorie." Zhia confronted her. "You're still having daydream with that kid huh?" Zhia said when she found out what was Marjorie looking at. It was Dave standing from a distance not that far from them.
"Isn't he cute?" Marjorie uttered.
"Oh, please. Enough of your fairytale fantasies." Zhia rolled her eyes.
"This isn't fantasy. It's reality." She replied back.
"Is this the reality you want? I don't think so." Zhia said. "You're just fooling yourself." She added.
"You'll never know what could happen." She uttered under her breath
"Try to wake up Marjorie or in the end it is you who will suffer." Zhia warned her.
Marjorie was distracted in her thoughts when something disrupted the moonlight passing through the window. Something flew by blocking the light of the moon then disappeared.
She ran outside to see what it is but there was nothing in the sky. Suddenly, the direction of the wind changed. Marjorie could feel there is something wrong with the surrounding. As a mage that manipulates fogs and mists, she has the ability to read wind directions. She concluded maybe it was just one of the dragons living in Mt. Brimlet having a midnight stroll.
"Mist Generation: Zero Visibility!"
She cast a spell that covers the entire inn to make sure that no one sees them. The mist expand through out the vicinity of Mt. Brimlet. After a while of listening to the surrounding, she decided to get back inside when she did not got anything within her range of notice.
"Found you." A woman smirked sadistically from above the clouds. Not that long, she flew away from Mt. Brimlet.
