Philip moved through the camp. The golems formed a circle with him and Shaelin at the center. As they split the wave of surging knights heading in the opposite direction, they shot him a glance that seemed to be looking down on him.
The disgrace of retreating away from battle will spread throughout the camp, but it can't be helped.
He glanced back at Shaelin hanging limp in his golem's arms. Her blood flowed down it's chest, absorbing into the already dark soil, making it even darker. He doesn't have time to worry about what others think. He has to get her to Master.
The demon's screeching grew louder. Ahead, Philip could see his Master standing next to the General.
"Master!" He shouted. "We were hit by the attack earlier. I tried my best to protect her... but it all happened so fast."
The Master scanned the demons in the distance, his aged face calculating.
"There's not much time. I can cast a spell to heal her but I can't stay. "
The demons we're almost upon them. He is the strongest mage sent to support the army. Although he wants to stay and make sure his disciples survive, this is a battlefield. He has a duty to fulfill.
He chanted 8 syllables at a rapid pace. His mouth moved so quick that all Philip could see was a blur. Twigs broke through the the dark soil as it formed a cradle holding Shaelin inside.
Gentle green light radiated from the cradle as it slowly began to heal her.
"Philip, take care of Shae for me."
Philip nodded in response as his Master rose into the sky and flew to the front lines.
The General, who was standing at the side, signalled at some guards.
"Although I'm sure you don't need it, I'll lend you some guards in case something happens. I don't want the death of a mage on my hands."
"Thank you General."
The General returned to his tent under the protection of his guards.
Philip, his five golems, and a handful of knights stood guard over Shaelin as the battle was about to start.
Dole Grom is the name of Shaelin and Philip's Master. He had been ordered by the King to accompany the army in getting a foothold in the demon realm.
Demons have been completely weeded out from the human world. Well, aside from the occasional wanderer from a random portal or summoning. He thought that there were no more demons. He thought he would never get that feeling of crushing them like bugs again. Then, the Kingdom found this world, filled to the brim with them.
"It's been a while, so take it easy on me." Dole grinned, facing down the enemy. On the field below, there were thousands of knights lined up, ready to fight. Their armor gleaned brilliantly in the dark pallette of this world. They would vanquish these demons and return victorious!
Just as a flying demon got close enough that Dole could see the saliva dripping off it's lopsided maw, he held his hand out, then dropped it flat toward the ground.
The thousands of demons couldn't hold themselves in the air anymore, and plummeted to the ground.
Dirt flew into the air from the collision as the knights charged forward. Dole held his palm down, keeping the gravity magic active. The demons could barely stand to defend themselves as the knights rushed in to execute them.
The foot soldier demons rushed even faster. They roared and slammed the floor hoping to distract the knights away, but it was all useless.
The knights brandished their silver swords and slashed down. Every swing struck true, decapitating or piercing the heart. Green blood spurted out signalling the end of a life.
The flying demons had died within minutes. Dole's magic completely countering them. He released the magic and flew down to the ground.
The next wave of demons is coming. Archers lifted their bows. For this part, Dole couldn't use gravity magic. If he did, it would block the arrows shot. Furthermore, it wouldn't be very affective and would only slightly hinder their mobility.
Before the demons we're even in range, the archers let their arrows fly. The sky filled with a cloud of arrows.
The demons lifted their arms to block their heads out of reflex. However, the arrows would never reach them from that distance. The humans must be scared! They stopped defending as they continued the charge.
Just when the arrows were supposed to lose their momentum, they sped up instead. The demons watched in shock as the arrows flew straight toward them without dropping.
