Leaving the market with a dejected demeanor, Desmond crawled on his way home, one can imagine that his meeting with Paulina hadn't turned out well at all, which was quite normal under the circumstances.
After explaining to the girl a bit about what had happened since then and how he was now part of the army, Desmond gave Paulina the contract he had in hand; Paulina looked at Desmond for a long time as if she was trying to see something in him and after not finding what she was looking for she signed the contract with a downcast face.
Seeing her like this, Desmond was forced to explain the nature of her relationship or the lack of it, it goes without saying that Paulina hadn't taken the subject very well and ended up yelling at Desmond to get out of it.
