"Cheers!!" the sound of glasses clanking filled the air. As they all started to drink, forms of conversation popped up. of course, the minors were served orange juice. "I cant believe we're all adults now, except for these two."
"Are you looking down on us!?! we'll be adults too in one and half year. besides whats so great about being an adult. When I look at you guys, I feel like its not even that much of a big deal." aiden spoke back with much confidence. His arrogance came out in every speech he made.
There was a silence on the table before everyone started laughing. was it because what aiden said was the complete truth or was it that they found him extremely cute in the moment?
Jay was the quickest one to agree with the younger one, "You're right, kid. Being an adult sucks."
As the night went on, Henry and Felix turned out to be the loudest one on the table. Everyone was excited to see how they interact, but they proved out to be a little too competitive.
Amid the chaos on the table, someone was sitting there silently. not concerning himself to talk with others.
Not that he didnt fit in, they all saw him talking with Jay, here and there, but perhaps because of his table manners he hadnt spoken since they started eating.
y/n was the first one to notice that friend. up until now, they hadn't spoken a word to each other. Everytime she tried to do so, Issac turned her down or walked away.
Ending her thoughts, she saw him standing up and heading to the other room. checking up on every person around her, she also joined him.
"Issac!" hearing his name called out, he stopped but couldnt bother to turn around. because of how far they had walked away from the table, the screaming from the living room were barely heard, making it easy for them to talk with ease. "We didnt get to talk earlier...how have you been?"
Issac knew there was a limit to how much he could ignore her. He knew from the beginning that he wouldnt be able to resist her in a time like this. He turned his head and glared at her. the look made her take a step back, "What do you think?"
Not understanding the reason behind his question, she nervously replied: "I think you look great...I see you took over your dad's company, Is it going well so far?"
"Yeah, I dont remember having a hard time."
"Look at you, you're so confident in that field. what happened to the boy who always cried at the thought of giving speech?"
"What can I say, the boy you used to know is long gone."
"Your parents must be so proud of you...feels like years ago when I Iast saw them. How are they doing?" If it was any other person in her place, issac would've answered the question effortlessly. But for him it was y/n, the only person he didnt want to ask him about it.
Irritation rose in him. He lowered his eyebrows and spoke with much annoyance in his voice, "Right back at you, How's yours doing? I heard Jacob enrolled in collage."
"Oh...right, he did." she continued to stutter. there were thousand of thoughts running through her mind.
since the past year, she hasnt talked about her family to anyone, not even to Felix. There were times he brought them up and she always replied in the affirmative
But now, suddenly, Issac is aware of something even she wasnt. She wondered how much more he knew, does he also know about her parent's divorce ...? does that mean he also knows she hid it from them...?
She forced a smile on him and continued the conversation as if nothing had happened, "Are you hungry, should I get you something to eat?"
He hated it there...he hated how everything seemed so normal, he hated how she seemed so happy even when she wasnt. He hated how flawlessly she lied to him. "You really shouldn't do that..." he whispered.
"What-" she stepped forward to hear him clearly. but it only made the other one feel more uncomfortable. he clenched his fists as she got near.
"Stop pretending like nothing happened! I hate it when you do that!" his jaw tensed in every word he spat out. He left her speechless and walked away.
